Bryn goes full speed into the nearby campsite, chasing after the egg thief. Unfortunately Bryn's feet get tangled up in an unseen tarp line, which makes him tumble forward and almost loose his balance.

The Heshbaan is in full sprint tearing through the crowd trying to make his way to another wooded area, but then suddenly seems to leap to the side erratically. Something makes him falter and lose momentum. He switches directly abruptly running back towards the central area of the large camp ground.

When he makes the turn he runs headlong into one of the Armsmen, who steps around from behind a tent and swings the back end of a spear shaft right into the man's legs. The egg thief rolls forward as he looses his footing and slides into a crash landing. The egg basket is flung forward, released from his handhold and rolling on the ground now ahead of him.

Gibon was yelling out all the while and crossing through the crowd, shouting out to the crowd in Heshbaan...

The armsman trips the runner, seemingly in a response of the crowd passing along the message and pointing at the egg thief.

Leaning his spear up against the tent, the armsmen takes out a length of thin lashing and loops it around the man's neck. With a big heave, he jerks the man up to his feet while still keeping him off-balance. The arms men heaves the man by the neck with the lash, tossing him stumbling this way and that. Then he lets go with one hand, hold both ends of the snaring lash in the other hand, and smacks the guy across the face. While the man is still shocked and reeling from the choke and smack, the armsmen shoves him up against a tree hard, holding him there against the trunk with a beefy hand pressing up against the man's chest.

With the other hand, still holding the length of lashing, the armsman begins to point and lecture at the man face-to-face. The thief is completely cowed into submission.

A crowd of onlookers is gathering around, creeping in to see the excitement. Chatter is beginning to rise up from the crowd, quick back and forth clamoring and recounting of events. Gibon is yelling out jeers again and again, pointing his finger, approaching and accusing loudly.

The armsman stays cool. Another big armsman walks over with a stance that delivers the message for everyone to stand back. He barks out an order of silence to the crowd and he gets it immediately.

The armsmen talk briefly between one another as they look out into the crowd. They see Gibon and Bryn nearby and point to them, motioning for them to come forward.

They ask firmly...

The others see Bryn and Gibon getting pulled into a demanding conversation with the armsmen. The crowd is murmuring, keeping the noise down because the armsmen seem on edge, but still talking back and forth between one another and using hands and arms in motion to recap the action.

One armsman speaking seems to zero in on Bryn, but the other keeps questioning Gibon as well.

The egg thief now is starting to interject with some explanations of his own.

Amit stays with Ivor and keeps talking and pantomiming, looking at Ivor and explaining more in Heshbaan.

He keeps giving Ivor assuring looks and hand motions of strength and power. Ivor cannot understand a word, but it seems like Amit is thoroughly satisfied about how Ivor came in and dispersed the ruffians. He also seems to be trying to explain what happened when the guys came after Gibon and maybe something about Gibon climbing up and finding the eggs on a rock cropping nearby.

A quick inquisition ensues, directed by the armsmen. Gibon has little trouble finding two witnesses who can corroborate his side of the story. The thief is identified as such and charged.

Kray, as the employer (they think owner at first) and travel sponsor of Gibon, is summoned to the place where the impromptu hearing is being held. The lead armsman, Oram, informs Kray that the thief tried to steal away with property of his servant. Since Kray is a noble, he can administer the punishment against this culprit.

The assigned punishment is up to 8 lashes. The other armsman takes down the man's shirt and makes him place his hands up against a tree, exposing his back. Bystanders mutter in the crowd when they see the man already has scars on his back from previous lashings, the sign of a repeat offender.

Ron Oram offers Lukrayides Lord Mercon, the offended with rights to administer, the bull whip. The egg thief puts his head down, bracing for the strike.

The crowd looks on, waiting to see the completion of this event.

Kurios Medios, attended by his set of guards and servants, has approached the scene as well, having seen the quick rise in commotion and now Kray's involvement.

Standing out to the side, he speaks out to the soldiers in Heshbaan, ...

The armsmen seem satisfied at the remarks. They bow their heads briefly and then salute towards Medios, and then turn back to managing the matter at hand.

Speaking in Yuoric Medios says, "We are sorry to hear of the offense against you, Lord Mercon. Praise to Sar Yokud who makes a strong law for his land, thus protecting his people and his noble guests." He nods to Kray, an understood message of assurance.

On the sidelines, bystanders exchange private comments among themselves, now seeing two foreign noblemen involved in this scene.

All eyes are on Kray, standing beside Ron Oram who offers the whip.

Thorn comes back to find that a crowd has gathered, not exactly at the center of the camp grounds, but definitely among the distribution of the separate camp groupings.

Kray, Bryn, and Gibon seem to be involved in an interchange with some Armsmen in the middle of the small crowd. Not everyone in the campground has flocked over to this curiosity, but quite a few have and more seem to be drifting in to investigate.

Maeriks, Ivor, and Amit are together, standing off to the side. They are the first to see Thorn approaching.
Jan 11, 2018 10:45 am
Thorn walks over to Maeriks, Ivor, and Amit. Gesturing with his eyes, he speaks quietly, in Dannein.

"What's with Kray and the whip?"
Jan 11, 2018 4:31 pm
"Caught a thief." Ivor grunts. "Stay alert. With a crowd charged up like this there's no telling which way things'll go."

Keeping his voice low, Thorn nods.

"I will. In the meantime, there are a couple shadowy figures lurking about on the ruins outside camp. Couldn't get a good look at them. One more thing about which to stay alert."

Kray approaches the thief, whip in hand. He could still recall his 6th birthday and the first time he had flogged someone. It had been a woman, a servant of House Mercon who had been accused of stealing from the kitchen food stores. Kray had, of course, administered the punishment per Devil Hade's instructions. It was later discovered that the servant was, in fact innocent of the crime. Naturally, Kray administered punishment to the guilty party as well.

Over the years, Kray had gotten a fair amount of practice with a variety of disciplinary tools, for reasons ranging from disciplining house servants to executing Mercon men. However, what he had taken from his 6th birthday was that the individual being disciplined should be guilty of the crime. Of course, as he had grown wiser, Kray came to understand that the whip could serve a purpose even when a guilty party was in short supply. It was simply a question of what message you wanted to send, and who was meant to receive it.

Motioning for Bryn to join him as translator, Kray held the coiled whip loosely as he queried the the accused man."The artwork of scars on your back suggests you are a shoddy thief. Tell me then. Are you a fool? Do you enjoy the lick of the lash? Why do you collect these scars?"

People approaching quickly.

Kray gave Thorn a sideways look and a nod, then turned his attention back to the accused.
