The three-armed monster at the corner grabs a handful of several of the hanging irons. Holding them in a tight bundle with one mighty clawed hand, it slings them forward against the wall, causing the upper stretches of the chains to thrust forward wildly at Elam on the high foothold above.

Improvised Weapon Attack v. Elam
Miss

It is a rudimentary manner of attack, not effective as Elam adjusts minimally to make sure that the poorly positioned chains do not strike him.

It is clear now though that the monster does indeed seek to do Elam harm.

With Iasu bound tightly by the Iron Bands and suspended perpendicular to the floor by several Main Irons that are interlinked with the bands, the hapless victim creates somewhat of a platform as he faces down into The Pit. Bryn nimbly transitions from The Iron that he rides over to stand directly on top of the back Iasu's legs!

Gaining a hold on one of The Irons near Iasu's left shoulder, Bryn kneels down close to read the runes on the bands. He has a chance, on each set, but he has to get the commands perfect.

Bracing himself, Bryn yells out a simple warning to Iasu in Heshbaan: "Hold on!"

Then he speaks out the code in a commanding voice.

Attempt remove 1 Set Iron Snake Bands by Power Words
Success = 1 Round. Mid Failure = Delay. Severe Failure = Lack of Success

Nothing happens.

"Fuck!" , Bryn shouts. He immediately begins reading the runes again.

The Iron Snakes twist and writhe, as if they know they are being challenged.

RESCUE R3
Nude Maeriks

Bleeding. Injured. Disoriented. Exhausted. Fighting against waves of abject fear.

Maeriks lingers in the entranceway at the partially opened chain barrier. He watches as Bryn tries to save Iasu and Ryhim fires arrows at Elam.

Maeriks wants to summon his courage and help, but is terrified of the chains and the monsters everywhere. Also he doesn't know what to do.

He looks back up the ascending tunnel. He cannot see Kray or Thorn anymore.

He looks back again out at the Pit chamber. It is all a nightmare here.

Delaying Action, if any.

Ryhim focuses Namtur's voice again "Fear consumes you, Elam the Betrayer." he releases the arrow then dashes across the room.
Stopping at Maeriks first, he speaks softly "If Elam approaches you, don't stay, you have proven yourself enough." With a nod, he sprints away stopping at the bottom hearth.
OOC:

OOC:
Hyp, I did miss some of the detail. Sorry about that. This week I've had to do quick reactions on narrow time windows - not some of my best work.

Results above for Menacing Attack. Easy-E failed, so was Frightened during R2; description of that Maneuver says it lasts until your next turn, though I would be willing to let it last longer in our every-round-changing Initiative system, in a circumstance where you act AFTER the target in one Round but BEFORE the target in the next Round. It was under affect during Elam's Action that Round 2. In the timing of it all, he was actually Moving away from Ryhim and did not Attack Ryhim, so there was no real violation that I can tell, but at the same time no extra positive payoffs either.

On the location, yeah that spot looks like it was wrong for that freeze frame - I see now that Ryhim should have been out towards the center more towards Bryn/Iasu instead of near that alcove at the fireplace hearth.

As I read the latest post, I see there is a lot of Movement during the time which sounds fine. At a snapshot on the Map right before Elam's Action in Round 3, am I correct to understand that this time Ryhim IS back to the fireplace hearth alcove?

CORRECTION: I think I get it now. "upper right corner of the bottom hearth." OK. The cauldron that is represented as the orange circle, the one closer to the south (bottom) of the map. Further away from GPF danger zone, but relatively close as possible to Bryn/Iasu hanging over The Pit.

I'll put up a Map in next few updates and let it sit for a pause so that you can verify.

RESCUE R3
Ryhim

The shot nearly hits Elam in the head. The deft swordsman's quick reflexes save him at the very last second as he ducks.

Miss (barely)
OOC:
Thought about making this a Hit, reasoning that Elam's largely DEX based AC might be hindered since he is balancing on a high foothold and getting out of his harness. But then I thought if I did that to one of your guys' PC, that would be pretty lame and controversial. Have to just let the numbers stay as they are.
Elam is enraged by the continued mimicry. He lets out an uncharacteristic shout of frustration, as Ryhim's attack comes even as Bushyasta speaks out against Elam, the droning voice echoing through the chamber even above the sound of the chains and the increasing buzz from the Pit.

Ryhim is like the wind, gliding through the chaos after the shot. Maeriks is wide-eyed and stressed when Ryhim offers him the advice. All the worn-down Dannein can do in return is nod his head in confirmation.

Ryhim takes position near the close cauldron to assess the battlefield.

Movement complete.
Apr 20, 2019 2:40 pm
Kray moved at a measured pace, his senses on full alert for any threats. Voice just low enough for Thorn to hear, he spoke succinctly. "Eyes open, brother. This shithole craves blood."

RESCUE R3
Elam

Elam completes the effort to get out of his harness, taking hold of the final two chains that had been attached to eyelets on his shoulder straps. The leather harness drops to the floor, swatted away by the pit fiend below. Elam stands completely free now, perched on the foothold and handhold on the side of the north wall.

With fierce contempt, Elam shouts out at Ryhim, "Go and die now, Sarceran!"

In a heave with his one free hand, he casts the two chains in Ryhim's direction and speaks out a set of ancient commands. The Irons snap to life as they glide across the room and then leap out in a serpentine motion to grab hold of Ryhim.

2 Irons Grapple attempt v. Ryhim.
Result becomes DC to Resist Grapple attempt (STR Athletics or DEX Acrobatics)

With the chains sent forth and his backpack shifted to his back, Elam begins to climb upward on the north wall, moving expertly from one handhold and foothold set to the next.

DMJ says:

While he works to free himself from the harness, Elam speaks out to Bushyasta in Otessite...

previously [note... "Take The Chamber, Ancient One. The edimmu slave lines are yours - I need them no longer. But be warned that you cannot harm me. My Ritual is complete to perfection. You must yield the way to me. I have spoken it thus in Rite that will not be denied, not even by you. I depart now, but remember your limitations. Do not quarrel with me, lest you be flung back into the hole from which you just came." [/note]
As Elam begins his climb, Bushyasta speaks out again, responding to Elam's last rebuke.
OOC:
Going to drop the Otessite Note hide from here forward I think. non-Otessite habladores aren't even there and if they were then they wouldn't understand this.
"Your arrogance is matched only by the breadth of your folly, elf. Who taught you this Ritual? Was it your worst enemy? Performed to perfection it was, but for you that is disaster. I suspect that you do not even know yet what you have done. Soon you will. Fool. You have summoned a Harvester and offered yourself to its merciless grip. Though I have claim over you, I have accepted the intervention because I indulge it. Nothing can save you now."

The voice of the Pale Monster falls heavy upon the entire chamber.
Apr 21, 2019 3:15 am
Bushyasta's words have even a physical effect on Elam, they are so devastating. The grey-skinned half-devil is overwhelmed to the point of arrest.

They had wanted him to see the Ritual. They had practiced it out between one another on purpose, knowing he was watching. They had purposely sent the wrong message, deceptively disguised as the right one. They had acted out a death sentence, but portrayed it out as a single route of salvation.

Elam's limbs freeze up. His climb upward is stopped, his body taken over by dread as the realization washes over him.

Akkeen and Adar-Malic had known he was spying and planning a betrayal. They had tricked him into learning, and now completing, a self-offering.

I am doomed.

Elam's very breath escapes him.

NO! Master your thoughts!

He could still escape. He WOULD still escape.

There would be just enough time. He could make it. He had made this climb before. Practiced it again and again.

Once he passed the Small Irons Gate, he would be free. Even a Harvester could not pass that barrier.

All he had to do was climb out.

Elam's limbs burst back into motion. He is climbing as fast as he can. Pulling and stepping with all of his might.

His life depended on his speed now, but in this Elam rests easy, for he is faster than any man ever seen in the World.
Apr 21, 2019 3:19 am
Iasu shakes his head in confusion. Betrayal upon betrayal upon betrayal. Perhaps it's only right that he and his brothers all perish here.

Ryhim smiles as he ducks out of the way of the first chain. He smiles as the second wrap around his leg, the voice of Bushyasta coating the room in sweet irony. "How can Ryhim die now? Your torment is much too fun!" he swaps back to Namtur's voice "The deceiver getting upset that he has been deceived. It is much too good."

RESCUE R3
Nude Maeriks

From the threshold at the chain barrier, Maeriks huddles in his distress, watching the daring of his companions even as his eyes always dart back to the terrible monsters and the chains all around.

He watches in fear as he sees Ryhim get wrapped up by one of the chains. Now Ryhim is getting pulled towards the hole!

Ryhim force moved 5' towards The Pit by Iron 2.

"Oh no!" Maeriks shouts.

Stumbling and almost slipping to the floor on his own blood, Maeriks launches forward as fast as he can. Labored and swooning even by the short dash, it is all Maeriks can do to make it to Ryhim's side and grab the Sarceran by the arm.

Maeriks, 15' max Movement

Ryhim is on the sloping ground right at the edge of The Pit, with the chain pulling viciously to cast him over the side.

Maeriks is just at the top edge of the curving floor, barely on the balance before he himself slides over. One hand gripping as tightly as he can on Ryhim, Maeriks reaches back with his other hand to grab one of the legs of the heavy fire cauldron.

Trying his best to leverage with the anchor point, Maeriks heaves with all of the strength he has left trying to pull Ryhim free.

Attempt Break Grapple v. DC 17 Iron 2.
