Sizhen kicks the Stabber's knives away and sizes up his shadow's (Yashub's) grappling technique and intentions. If his interest was to kill the Stabber, he would already be dead. He trusts in the confluence of events, in the intertwining of fates.

Sizhen's Heshbaan is a work in progress and recognizes his shadow will be more successful with an interrogation. However, time is of the essence. He attempts Koretellan (then Zurtaran if unsuccessful) to communicate to his shadow (Yashub) the need for expedience.

"Quickly, before they get here."

He subtly gestures to the approaching authorities, trusting in his shadow's wisdom to read the following between the lines:

1. If the guards get to the Stabber, Heshbaan justice might take the Stabber out of their hands.
2. We have a confluent interests and I'm willing to work together.

Sizhen puts one sword away and uses his free hand to search the restrained Stabber for any clues or anything out of the ordinary.

@DMJ: No worries about the learning curve of Sizhen's abilities. You have your hands full trying to juggle all the plot lines and steer us together. I'll keep posting the ability text in spoilers.

Yashub glances sideways at his new-found shadow, Sizhen, when he tries gibberish (Kortellan), but responds to Zutaran. "Yes, asking information." and turns back to the assassin to get an answer, urging him 'gently' by moving the dagger's point towards his crotch.

At the western farms of the north bank...

Kray and Thorn watch the Hechesi move out in silence and make there way into the tall trees of the Jara Hili.

Nearby are some farms and a few scattered storage barns. At this location it would be quite a hike to walk back through the slums of the Swamp to reach the main North Bridge.

Nearby are some small piers. Out on the river are some small boats, rafts, and mini-barges.

Gibon says they may be able to hitch a ride from one of the fishermen or farmers who are rowing goods across to the western piers of the south bank of the main part of the city.

Out from the tall grass, walks the hooded figure from earlier, stepping in front of the three men. He spreads a hand and motions towards the docks

Sizhen tries to buy his shadow some more time to interact with the Stabber. He yells at the Korvaran*

"You let this man kill your ward! In my home country, a man who had failed as utterly as you have would rather fall upon his sword than live with the shame!"
* Don't see Korvaran in the languages list, so not sure what is the logical language to communicate with. I'll try them all, starting with Kortellan

Down by the river...

When Trece emerges and speaks in Zutaran, Gibon is able to get a conversation going. Gibon, as it turns out, speaks better Zutaran than he does Yuoric.

After some back and forth, Gibon explains that Trece also was directed to depart from the scene at the Hechesi house and find you guys if possible. Trece knows a local farmer here and is familiar with the area, also familiar with hitching rides with boats to get across the river without going back through The Swamp to risk being spotted by the Armsmen, who are now investigating the area to find out what happened to Koral. Now Trece invites the group to join him on a short ride across the Jasher. He knows he can get a boat going from a local farmer.

Furthermore, once everyone is back in the city, Trece asks if they will join for a visit, including complimentary tea, with his employer. It turns out that The Mountains of the Moon is actually a Tea Shop where Trece works in Gelshemish. It is the same as Palla Ba's reference to "the Moon Mountains". The proprietor of the specialty shop is a Seetan named Ra u nak, friend of Palla Ba and Lok also.

I'm pretty sure everyone involved would be game for this, but let me know. If so, I'll shift to that interchange. If not, you guys can direct elsewhere.

OOC:
I find myself quite interested in what Sizhen and Yashub have going on in this situation, with big Ivor watching on from the nearby hilltop. I know I said yesterday that I was aiming to pull in and narrative advance some of these scenes, but this one is cooking hot. It's gotta running ACTIVE!
In the field adjacent to the track...

When Sizhen speaks Kortellan, the Korvaran squints and looks at him directly. It seems like he may have understood, but only partially.
OOC:
Len, quick follow up: Korvaran's speak Yuoric as primary language. I know the DT language barriers are ANNOYING! Sorry, fellas, I can't help it. All of this culture blend and diversity and racism is pushing me around too! Ha!
Required Action: Sizhen make WIS Insight check.

Cedrio seems to know one of the Gilded Armsmen who come up to investigate the assassination at the top of the hill.

After some exchange, Cedrio comes up to give an update to Ivor, "We are in the clear at least, thought for a minute that they might give us trouble just for being nearby and armed. Damn! I should have seen that guy. You jabbed at me earlier, and I deserved it. I'm getting too fat and soft here, old friend."

Cedrio stares back, a concerned look on his face, at the body of the Honorable Magistrate Ennautum. Nearby Ivor sees the Gilded Armsmen speaking with the big Korvaran veteran, who has also dismounted now.

"I'm going to go down there," Cedrio says, turning sharply and glaring down the north hill. Down below, the assassin is captured. Two other armed men have contained him. Now Sergius is in some sort of interchange with them. Off to both sides, riders approach, angling in from both sides after rounding opposite ends of the north wall.

"Who the fuck are those other guys?," Cedrio says as he steps out heading downhill.

Down by the river...

Through Gibon, Kray speaks to Trece, appreciative. "Let's not waste time then." Although strong drink was typically his preference, it had been some time since Kray had enjoyed a good cup of hot tea and he looked forward to what the Hesheban culture had to offer.

Raised eyebrow and a half smile, he jibed with Thorn. "A free ride and tea time sound good to you?"

With emphasis on his words the captured assassin pushes Yashub's arms, seeking to shove the blade away, and apparently unconcerned with whether or not that puts him in mortal danger.

At the Mountains of the Moon...

Trece is able to get a farm helper that he knows to ferry the group across along with a load of resupply going to one of the market carts on the other side. The river crossing is quite pleasant.

Soon the group is in the Mountains of the Moon, an exquisite tea shop in The Canals. It is right out on a cobble stone street, the front of the store facing one of the finely bricked waterways that cuts through as one of the avenues for gondolas and canoes.

The hanging sign over the door has a beautiful wood carving that is painted with perfection, a three dimensional image of a magnificent mountain range with the moon hanging overhead in a starry night sky. The words are written in Zutaran.

Ra u nak is happy to meet everyone. He speaks fluent Yuoric.

The tea shop is immaculate and eclectic, a display of foreignness but welcoming and full of comfort. Downstairs sit mostly Sarcerans in fancy clothing styles of the east. They chatter away in Zutaran.

Ra u nak leads the group upstairs near a balcony with open shudders. It is quite a view overlooking the masterful canals.

Tea is served and it is like nothing ever tasted before. Full of flavor, refreshing, and perfect temperature. The first is of a burgundy hue. It is called Mora Tup, translated "Red Moon". The second batch has a green coloring. It is Talacay, "Late Morning". Both are delicious. The first brings a feeling of revitalization. The second invokes a noticeable tinge of euphoria.

Ra u nak takes some time to speak kindly and take the conversation where it may. He is a great conversationalist and has many wise stories. There is no real driving agenda of topics, rather it is a Seetan tradition, a slow time to exchange, relax, and indulge together in tea: one of the three greatest loves of the people of Nuuth Seeta.
OOC:
Leaving this open-ended. Picturing it as a time when the Yuorics might get familiarity with Trece. Use it however you like.

Sergius briefly looks as if he is going to say something to Sizhen, but then instead he strides forward with a strong step, seeking to barrel past the Alijanian who is separating him from the assassin.
OOC:
Len, STR Athletics comparison required to block Sergius from Overrun.
I'm thinking this is an important moment about timing and anticipation. Intended to see Sergius Deception vs. Sizhen WIS Insight, to see if Sizhen could discern that Sergius's intent is to step forward to make a move for The Stabber, with success meaning Sizhen can roll Initiative. For the sake of pressing forward, and because I think the Inspector is a highly observant guy and standing ready for anything, I'll just say...
Optional Action: Sizhen send STR Athletics comparison if desired, to stop Sergius's progress to reach The Stabber.
Optional Action: Roll Initiative if desire to take Action after success/failure or allowance (Sizhen steps aside) of Overrun attempt

Tea Time with Ra u nak

As usual, Thorn lets Kray do most of the talking. Since Yuoric is being spoken, Gibon gets a respite from translation duties, and Thorn has a soft side conversation with him at one point, ensuring that Gibon is not going to let the shock of earlier events spoil the coming days and all they might bring.

When the conversation wanders to religion, Thorn pipes up at one point.

"What relationship do the gods of this city have with Marduk? What kind of god is he?"

When it wanders to politics, he asks Ra u nak for his opinion of the Queen.

Later, using Gibon again to translate, he asks Trece about his odd spoon-like weapon.

"Tell him I appreciate the versatility of his weapon . . . Ask him what it's called . . . Does he mind if I take a look at it? . . . Is it common where he is from?"
OOC:
HypCo, if Trece lets us get a closer look at it, can you give us a fuller description... maybe a pic?
Mar 16, 2018 3:48 pm
Ra u nak answers Thorn's questions as he can.

On Marduk...

"Marduk is a very old god. Most think his is forgotten and gone now. But there is a sect of the Forest People, the people of Jara Hili, called the Hileli, who venerate Marduk. Here in the city, some of the Hechesi make offerings to him, but the Hileli themselves remain hidden, not revealing themselves often, blending in with the poor until they perform rituals or make offerings. The Dasnishi would probably seek them out to ruin them if they could find the whole group.

The Hileli say that Goldna of Dasnish was a man who venerated Marduk faithfully. His religion and offerings earned him elevation and empowerment, and he did great miracles and ascended into the firmament of sky before he died. So for the Hileli, Goldna ad Dasnish is a great prophet who had special favor, but still a man. For the Dasnishi, this is blasphemy. For the Dasnishi, Goldna ad Dasnish is a god of all the lands of the sons of Hesheb. Marduk? They do not wish to hear the word that Marduk is superior.

Marduk was worshiped more in the past, especially in the Old Empire (Zutar). Some of the desert Bishtu worship him still. They say "Marutuk". They too say that he fought Tiamat the flood dragon, defeated her and saved all things using his magic words and an unbreakable net. So Marduk, they say, is the first among all gods. In truth the King of gods, for he formed the earth and all that dwells upon its surface.

On "the Queen"...

Ra u nak nods his head in understanding, but raises a hand up slightly to address."Ah, my friend. I understand your question, but please know that Heshba has no Queen. The word you may have heard "Sarasat" translates to "Wife of the King." King Yokud has two wives now: Bendecca and Sordamor. Bendecca is called Beloved. These two Sarasatat have much reverence and favor because of their marriage, but no woman rules over Gelshemish nor the lands of Heshba.

As for me, I know not what to think of the King's wives, though I would be delighted if they were to come here to the Mountains of the Moon, drink tea, and perhaps speak for a short while with a poor foreigner like me. Haaha hoo ha!"

As Cedrio walks towards the low north wall, he points out to Ivor a wealthy looking man riding quickly on horseback, with three Gilded Armsmen riding alongside of him.

"Damn! That's Nasi Talel. He owns all of this land and the track."

The Nasi and his guards are riding towards the western end of the wall, apparently to head around to the north field where the assassin was seen to have been captured.
