OOC:
Thorn you sly dog.
OOC:
I hope it’s not too late, but would Bryn have been able to make a break for it during the military show? I know you had Bryn and Thorn in the scene above with Jackastus, but is that possible?
OOC:
I'm picturing a blend in all of this.

During the military display, that ended up being a time that left the LEAST chance for slipping away. For all of the soldiers (both Gilded Armsman locals and Korvaran mercenaries) who were in the center stage performance, there were even more than that who kind of stacked up in the back of the main room and entrances to all the side rooms. They were both watching the performance but also creating a sort of "show of force" machismo over the whole setting.

I could picture Bryn trying to drift back in the crowd, check out for openings in several outer rooms hallways stairways, and then just conceding that it wasn't the right time to make a move to slip away.

In the moments that followed, power soldier display is over in the main room, people start clapping, soldiers called to ease and start dispersing. So Bryn walks back to check in with the team, Acastus is meanwhile doing the cock size contest with Kray, fits in a last quick insult at Bryn's expense too, then struts out. Bryn comes up to get Kray's review (assassination plan. Oh man this was so Kray Kray funny) after the exchange.

As for chances to slip away, that seems increasingly possible, Bryn will see and others as well, in the time that follows. The night at Garden Palace Gala is changing . . . in mood, environment, opportunity.

More to follow soon, but I want to give some time for the weekend downshift tradition. Allow a slow burn for everyone to catch up or weigh in with some casual fluff.

One last thing: Ox, do you think Thorn will ever get laid?

At the Tea Station in the Griffon Room...

Trece stands at the high stairs opening that looks out into the main chamber. From there he watches the military display and also sees the performances and musicians. He can still see the Yuorics and Danneins below, off to the side in the crowd on the main low level. The one called Mercon seems briefly engaged in an interchange with one of the Korvaran legionnaires.

All party goers exited the Griffon Room for the entrance of the King in the main room. Still none returned during the main performances. Only now are a few drifting in and out.

Trece sees the Dannein called Bryn walk through the room again, looking around briefly. He nods and says hello, but departs again. Trece watches him go to other periphery rooms as well, but then eventually return to his group in the main chamber.

Trece watches as large cauldrons are lit in the main chamber, that is a mix of both outdoor plaza and covered stone and pillar awnings. The sun has set now and the fires bathe the setting in a new glow.

Throughout the side rooms, other cauldrons and lamps are lit. Some of the lamps have extremely rare and expensive material called glass around them. They are brittle panes of colored material that light can shine through, and one can see through, though not with perfect clarity of what is on the other side. The fire behind these glass panes shines light outward in different colors. Soon many of the rooms are awash in strange colors of orange, purple, yellow, green, and blue. It is a rare sight, one that Trece is not familiar with.

As he looks around to the crowd, it seems that others are enamored with the lamp lighting as well. Many are speaking about it and admiring it.

As the sun sets, the night sky is visible in the main courtyard veranda chamber, that is a mix of indoor and outdoor spacing.

Throughout the chambers of the Garden Palace, fires are lit. Large decorative cauldrons, massive stone fire pits, elaborate candle stands, hanging lamp and torch sconces. All sorts of lighting.

The most impressive of all are the colored glass-panel lamp stands and hanging chandeliers. Glass is a rare substance and usually available only to the rich who can hire the limited pool of artisans who keep the trade a guarded secret. Those who have traveled the Markkelands, Kortella, and Pylos have seen it here and there, but it is not extremely widespread. Sizhen has seen glass more frequently in Alijan. The clarity of this glass here at the Palace is exceptional though. It is far less cloudy than anyone has seen before.

The lighting changes the look of the entire scene. Now the Gala is an image of exotic mystery, everything cast in strange hews, shadows dancing on the edges of all things as fires crackle from shining bases, the smell of scented oils and perfumed-soaked woods burning.

There is talk of how wealthy the Enlightened Sar is and how very skilled all of his servants and artisans are.
Mar 24, 2018 2:06 pm
Kray takes in the scene, extraordinarily pleased with his decision to leave the Mercon snakepit behind as he breathes in the exotic splendor of the evening.

Perhaps an *extremely* subtle distraction could be arranged for Bryn's efforts. The kind that could be in no way incriminating to Kray. Perhaps a simple question of the right guard at the right time?

J, does Bryn need to slip past one guard to make headway? Gilded or Korvaran?

Perhaps just a moment where Kray asks about the manufacture of the Gilded armor and gear and if it is at all possible to acquire such craftsmanship for himself. In reality, he would actually be interested for the PC's that wear armor, if the guard would share.

Deception roll seems appropriate if this could work in any way for Bryn. I'd like to think Kray could have it planned out when Bryn stopped by.

20 seems good... But Deception Luck to stack the deck just in case.

DMJ says:
Nasi Talel is truly fascinated with Sizhen's story as he presents it. He is clearly impressed, not just with the story but with how Sizhen seems to be legitimate nobility.

The governor asks more questions about what Sizhen's recent experiences have been. What are his goals here in the West? Will his house try to set up some sort of travel or cooperation back and forth between East and West? Will Sizhen be staying in Gelshemish for an extended time? Is he looking for a venue to bring Alijanian cooperative projects to the Sar's court here in the city? If so Talel wonders if Sizhen would be interested in joining his advisory team.

The Nasi helps the Sar organize foreign exchange. Someone with knowledge of Alijan and the Emperor would be a great addition to the court.
Sizhen questions why a leader of a city that works so hard to isolate itself would be interested in such an expansion of trade.

Its not that Sizhen doesn't see value in exploiting such a relationship, especially since The Nasi is offering an avenue to exert control. It just doesn't smell right.

Sizhen makes it clear to the Nasi that foreign trade between his homeland and Heshbaan would require an astronomical investment to carve a trade route through hostile wilderness or deadly waters.

He is careful not to offend The Nasi, but he implies that such an undertaking may be a stretch for the resources of a city that works so hard to isolate itself from the world. But, of course, nothing is beyond the will of Sar Yakud, and with the right guidance may even become an eventuality.

Sizhen demonstrates noncommittal interest in the position. Truth be told, this opportunity is secondary to his main objective and he works to cordially distance himself from The Nasi and revisit communication with Yashub.

In a moment of relative privacy, as the crowd is taken by the display of changing colours and lights, Sizhen attempts a more overt gesture:

"I have the Stabber's possession and you have the Stabber's confession. Two pieces of a larger puzzle. We have many more besides, I suspect. Working together seems the best route. But first -

At this moment Sizhen leans on close and whsipers

" - why do you seek the Red Bastition of Midrad? "

Nasi Talel listens as Sizhen explains the difficulty of opening up any ongoing exchange with faraway Alijan.

He nods in acceptance, but still seems interested in meeting more with Sizhen. "Nonetheless, I am fascinated with the stories I have heard of the Ancient Ways of the Alijanian Masters, the extravagant palaces built by the Emperors of old, the strange animals that some of the masters are able to speak with. For this, I hope that we can speak again so that I might hear from you what you believe to be true and what may be exaggerations developed by time and great distances. Haha! Perhaps I am hearing nothing but fairy tales you might say to me, eh?"

A royal servant approaches and summons the governor away, "Enjoy the night, Lord Lao. he says as he is departing. "The comforts and poets will be coming soon. I invite you to partake and indulge in the melody of their fine art. We will speak together again."

Sizhen sees the Nasi go up to the high platform at the Throne. He speaks to Sar Yakud, who stands and embraces him with a smile. Servants for both men stand to the side, including the man who appears to be the commander of the Korvaran mercenaries. The Nasi and the Sar speak for a short interchange there, and then they walk away to the back in conversation, disappearing behind the crowd of attendants and guards.

Sizhen assesses the room, and takes time to catch up with Yashub.

Yashub sees that Nasi Talel has moved up to the platform to unite with the Sar. Yashub knows now that the Nasi may be away in private meetings with the Sar and his Magistrates for an extended time.

Bryn gives Kray an update on an opening, an opportunity. He leads back to the Griffon room, which has fewer people now. Ra u nak, Trece, and their two Bishtu servers are still running the tea stand off to the side. Kray sees that the Gilded Armsman assigned to the room is still there, but is talking to some robed magistrate or noble. Bryn can see a hallway to the back that leads to a stairway, and identifies it to Kray and the others. With little difficulty and hardly a word needing to be spoken, everyone knows what the attempt will be.

Coming from out of the edges of the hallways in all rooms now are dark clad servants, dressed in rather tight black and gray robes, even with trim hoods that cover their heads and most of the features of their faces. They carry all sorts of food and wines, quickly and gracefully placing their carry down on table stations and then stepping back away. It is definitely clear that they are meant to be overlooked, hardly noticed, blending into the background, so as not to take away from the elegant lighting and the meaningful exchanges ongoing between all of the favored people who are the guests at the Gala.

These "invisible servants" say nothing and move in silence. After delivering the food and drink supplies, the attendants bring forth a series of pipes and canisters, setting them out on small tables and tray stations. These strange paraphernalia are quite exquisite, no two exactly alike.

One magistrate passing by looks delighted. He says to Kray and Ivor, with Gibon translating, "Ah, the comforts! If you have not taken these before, you are in for a fine treat. The Sar's gardens produce the best herbs, and his naturalists have skill beyond measure to prepare the comforts."

They watch as the Magistrate gets some assistance from one of the invisible servants to pour a small cup of liquid that he drinks and then loads up a long pipe to smoke it. The man is beaming with joy as he completes the process and then moves over to sit down on one of the lounge chairs as he drinks his wine.

Similar "Comfort Stations" are being set up in all of the rooms throughout the different Gala chambers.

Kray sees the opening that Bryn is going for and makes the play to help. He starts up conversation with the Heshbaan Armsman. It is going well enough, but unfortunately a Korvaran legionnaire comes down a side hallway. Bryn is right on the edge about to make a move.

Thorn, looking on from the side, sees the situation develop and recognizes that there might be a problem coming.
Mar 25, 2018 12:16 pm
As smooth as the colored pane glass, Ra u nak steps forward and hands the Korvaran legionnaire a cup of tea and begins talking graciously to the man in Yuoric, as if he is an impressed onlooker who recently saw the military show.

The Korvaran is taken a bit by surprise, but he takes the tea thankfully. His focus shifts to listening to the Seetan's words. Overall though the soldier is pleased and seems happy to hear whatever Ra u nak is saying to him.

The Seetan motions the legionnaire over to the tea station, offering him sugars and creams that can be added. The armored Korvaran complies and follows him.

The way is clear. Bryn makes his move down the hallway, rounding the corner away from the Griffon Room.

Trece keeps a watchful eye on the new "invisible servants", coming and going in all black and gray with their faces covered.

These servants move with the grace of cats. Their skill at the service work is impressive, but their lurking is somewhat annoying to one who is trying to keep a watchful eye over all things. Trece makes note of their patterns of travel as they go back and forth to and from the kitchen and other preparatory storage chambers.

Thorn sees Bryn make it down the hallway and disappear.

Everything seems good enough now, so Thorn knows he has some time to wait and keep a watchful eye out until Bryn comes back.

Wondering how this risk will go, Thorn paces through the room. The entrance of the Griffon Room is on a higher platform, with stairs leading down into the main Gala chamber.

It is a long way off from here, but Thorn can still see Sarasat Bandecca. She sits on her chair alone now among the three. Sar Yakud and Sarasat Sordamor are both absent.

Bandi looks around quietly, nodding and speaking briefly with those who approach her chair to speak with her or bid her well. She scans through the crowd slowly, looking here and there, stopping now and again for her hand to be kissed by a gracious magistrate or lord.

Immaculately clad Gilded Armsmen stand behind her chair to the right and left, and one ahead of her screen those who approach. All of the guards on the platform are keeping a watchful eye over the Wife of the King.
Mar 25, 2018 2:08 pm
Thorn watches Bryn creep down the hallway. He looks around, casually, watching for any signs of possible trouble. Walking past the entrance to the Griffon Room, he spies Sarasat Bandecca again. Keeping his eyes open, he lets his mind wander briefly...

That look on her face before she saw him... insincere? That would be odd, he thinks, remembering her speech at the Nasi Hall gala before the shuvael. He, like the rest of the crowd, had been captivated by her words of love for the city and its people. She had spoken of the need for people to look for the good in each other in these... confusing times did she say? Whatever it was, that speech seemed most sincere.

She is surrounded by the Armsmen. He wonders if she'll find a way to slip away, as it seems she did before.

He walks away from the entrance, scanning the area around him once more.

Not one to pass up on new experiences, especially those that offer debauchery or mystical revelation via narcotics, Kray relaxes at a comfort station, sampling the drink and smoke offered in this exotic culture, all still very new to him as he learns their ways and customs.

Wouldn't mind if one of the crew could be nearby. In case bad shit happens. I know Ivor has been adopting bodyguard role since arrival. Sure he could probably just scare problems away. Or give Kray a bad trip ha!

In the unauthorized sections of the Garden Palace...

Bryn sees clearly that Ra u nak intervened in order for Bryn to get by the last Korvaran guard. Perhaps it comes with no surprise then when Bryn sees the younger Seetan who works with Ra u nak standing in a corner near the bottom of the first stairwell.

Bryn met this man earlier on this night. He goes by the name Trece, but Gibon has told Bryn that the name means "Thirteen" in Zutaran. Bryn heard the story of this man countering an attack by an abomination monster that erupted from the contagion body of Bezil Koral in Hechesi district yesterday. Thorn, Kray, and Gibon recounted the story of Trece laying a severe brutality on the monster using only his bare hands and a sharpened spoon.

Trece is wearing a cloak loosely pulled over his head now. He stares at Bryn silently.

Back at the Griffon Room...

Kray takes a bit of the comfort from the station. One of the "invisible" servants steps forward to show him the operation. Kray needs little direction, an experienced smoker. He recognizes the quality and potency of the substance at once. Knowing that it will set in with a strong euphoria over the next minutes, Kray stops at one intake which is enough to make him feel ... outstanding.
