OOC:
I guess everyone could roll, just for the sake of letting everyone post when they can steal the time away.
The numbers can be staged up IF/WHEN a Short Rest is completed.
Clarifying: A Short Rest is NOT completed just yet.
Developments on Actions still underway, so I guess there is some chance that the Short Rest will NOT apply. So rolling is fine just for preparation for probabilities, but don't adjust the HP record yet. I'll confirm when time is in and Short Rest recovery HPs become official.

"Sulyut," a strong voice calls in definitively. It is coming from the next room over to the west, through the open walkway.
OOC:
"Sulyut" is a word of announcement or greeting that is moderately familiar in Heshbaan language. It translates to something like "hail", or "I recognize you at your position." It is actually a Zutaran word, but is prevalent enough to spill over.
The man, not yet seen, speaks out from the darkness in Heshbaan. Kray and Thorn try to follow along, but Sizhen and Bryn are really the only ones with enough mastery of the language to follow along with the fellow's accent and given the state of disorientation everyone is in.

He is armed, with weapons in sheaths, but none of them are drawn. He speaks again, calmly but firmly in a rugged voice.

Trece begins up the stairs, slowly, as if feeling each step beneath his foot. He calls back in Otessite, the same time a spoon is removed and held against his leg

Bryn hails the newcomer with a suspicious raised eyebrow then looks to Kray and in Dannien says "He informs us that we are in danger and that the others who attacked us below will return soon. He is telling us to go with him or he will kill us... I do not like being threatened," he looks at Ivor, Maeriks and Sizhen "but I’m not sure if another fight is wise."

Trece sees the man briefly at the top of the stairs, but he is mostly concealed by darkness. Trece can make out that the man is athletic and wears a beard. He is armed with swords and knives sheathed behind his back and at his waist.

The swordsman speaks down at Trece, but then walks onward out of sight into the upper floor room into which the stairs rise.

"Threats..." Kray chuckled, mild annoyance influenced by fatigue conjuring up an an almost imperceptiblle and dismissive sense of humor. "Are just posturing until metal's drawn and theres blood."

Kray was relaxed in demeanor. If anything, he simply didn't want to get back into action again so soon. Drained and still recuperating, he chose words despite the newcomer's threat and spoke through Bryn.

He adopted a cordial stance and tone, looking at the stranger as he spoke. "If it's not too much trouble, ask him if he is with the others below. Where he'd like us to go with him. His intentions and the like."

Maeriks is unconscious, right? I dont think theres time to drag him around or babysit him either. I'm fine with leaving him with Ivor, especially since he's an NPC knocking on heaven's door.

X, doesn't Thorn have that ability to assess a
NPC via battlemaster? Might be worth doing on this guy do figure out the threat level.

Sizhen listens to the newcomer's speech and reflexively employs his Imperial training, noticing the subtle tells that all people give when they lie regardless of language or culture.
OOC:
Looks like the Ear for Deceit feature will come in handy here and reset my Insight Check to 16 17. (I can't add)

Insight (disadvantage, minium 16) - (1d20+9, 1d20+9)

1d20+9 : (12) + 9 = 21

1d20+9 : (2) + 9 = 11

Kray raised an eyebrow, glancing toward Thorn and Sizhen, curious as to their appraisal of the stranger.

I was hoping the inquisitor might have some insight for us Len.

Bryn passes along the general intent of Kray's brief questions. The swordsman responds concisely.

He shifts and extends a hand away, as if signaling Bryn, Kray, and the others to come forward, moving with him to the west.

OOC:
That Know Your Enemy ability is a 1 minute study time. Not long at all, but still - Thorn probably needs a bit longer for "observing or interacting" before he comes to conclusion and then has to communicate it how he chooses. Suspect something needs to be done or said in the meantime on this hanging conversation, or it would be a heck of a weird pause in silence followed by Thorn giving a verbal report.

X, let me know though if you want to use it as the situation unfolds. If so, let me know what features you are trying to detect comparison on.

To all others tagging along, as mentioned above, Thorn is quietly trying to get a read on this guy, but it will take some moments remaining when there are questions/decisions hanging in the air. It will be up to X after that on how Thorn communicates his judgment outward.

The man has already walked away and disappeared into the upper floor room when Trece speaks out his question. Either the man did not hear, or perhaps just as likely, he heard and did not answer.

Still slowed and struggling a bit from the effects of the poison gas, Trece is not as quick as he usually is. As he tops the stairs, he sees that the swordsman, on the other hand, has moved quite far in the same amount of time.

Off in the distance, into the next room, Trece sees that the swordsman standing, his form sillouetted by a light source coming from the next room even further away still.

Trece begins to hear the swordsman's voice as he gets closer, but he cannot decipher the words. Trece begins to identify that the swordsman is speaking in Heshbaan.

Uncertain at first, but then it becomes clear. There is a quieter voice, because it is originating from further away in the more distant room with the light. Trece cannot make out the words, but it is Bryn's voice. There is a conversation going on.
OOC:
Trying my best to describe how these two timelines are converging in the right spacing.

We are talking about the swordsman being in Upper Level 1 (Second Floor) Room 5, speaking to the upstairs group who is in Room 6.

Trece is approaching Room 5 from the west, in Room 9, after ascending Stairwell 10 from the Ground Level.

From the room with the stairwells, one going up and one going down, Trece moves eastward towards the swordsman, watching him speak to the others in the room beyond that is casting the torchlight. Trece's own lantern illuminates the room that he is in.

Trece hears a howl, coming from below. A distant braying of a hound. Now another. It is rather faint, but recognizable enough.

In silhouette, Trece sees the swordsman tilt his head, a telltale sign that the stranger heard the sound as well.

The swordsman makes a motion with his hand and arm, extending it out and taking a step back, as if inviting the others to come with him.

Trece looks back at the stairwell leading down. Nothing. No movement.

Only a blackness that sits in the pit beneath, outside of the reach of the lamplight at this angle.

Sizhen notices another light, to the west, beyond and behind the swordsman.

The light is shifting around, casting shadows and blurred glimpses from the threshold of the next room beyond.

"He deals in truths," Sizhen states simply.
