Some time passes for Bryn, Kray, and Thorn. They take the comfort of the sitting room for what it is, but have time to reflect on the circumstance. Sizhen is still unresponsive, though he is whispering quietly most of the time.

Then the gate opens. Elam walks in with his crew following behind.

To the surprise of the team - Maeriks enters the chamber as well!
Oct 25, 2018 11:30 am
Elam speaks.

"I am glad to say that tonight we both have recovered brethren who we thought were lost," he nods at Maeriks and also signals casually back to the towering myrmidon in the back, who was seen earlier in the escape. Is it the great soldier who was set on fire?! Now he is wearing a new armor cuirass and a new helm, but apparently it is him. "They are of tough stock," Elam says to finish the idea.

"It seems that this night our lines of fate have aligned. I have come to learn that opportunity should never be squandered, no matter how strange it may seem. Lord Mercon, I accept your offer of cooperation. I would unite our forces to strike down the Rabisu and rid them from Adriyalet House," Elam extends a hand to Kray, "We, the Cursed Remnant, welcome you as our guests and stand with you as comrades-in-arms."

OOC:
Shift to a blend of in character and OOC as necessary.

Ahri is introduced as a free man who has elected to join on his own accord.

"The Cursed" are introduced by name (except Iasu. Jabes manages that and it's done already).

Quick summary:
Elam: the leader, you have heard plenty of him already, speaks only a small amount of Yuoric
Akkeen: one of the twins, seems more talkative and likely one of the nicer guys, speaks closely with Elam, can speak intermediate Yuoric
Adar-Malic: the other twin, quieter and watchful
Namtur: the tall and barrel-chested myrmidon, big armored soldier, always in a full helmet with shudder mask, quickly withdraws from the crowd and does not talk at all

Will probably have to leave it there for the day. Also would like to leave it open for you guys to chime in, bring each other in with any updates/intros/reunions, and get situated for stats, equipment, and the like.

Get the mechanics ready. Send in any questions. Make any comments.

Next scene upcoming looks like a move towards the Great Hearth Room, where Bryn hopes to find the Halonian Phoenix strong box.

Kray was shocked to see Maeriks. He had been certain the man was food for scavengers. "It would appear death does not become you!" He rose from the chair and approached Elam, speaking to Maeriks. "The Fates smile on you."

Turning to Elam, Kray shook hands with the swordsman, Bryn translating. "Well met. To business then, as time is of the essence. And seeing you know the lay of the land, how would you suggest we move forward?"

"I'm glad you're still alive, Big Man," Thorn grins at Maeriks. "Yshala smile on you, but I never thought I'd see you again."

Thorn's gaze then rests briefly on each member of these Cursed fellows, stopping a moment longer on Namtur. Finally, he looks at Bryn. Thorn's eyes narrow slightly in concern. He walks over to Rynalt, stopping long enough at Kray's shoulder to murmur a short phrase.

He speaks to Bryn softly for a bit.

Quote:

Maeriks and the Myrmidon descend down into a box-like room that turns out to be an elevator. It is lowered and another cage is opened. On the other side Maeriks and the myrmidon are met by a tattoed man in a robe. The myrmidon and this new ally talk continuously as they lead back to other gated chambers in the basement levels.

Eventually Maeriks is introduced to the others in Elam's group. Iasu is able to communicate with Maeriks in Dannein. Iasu has options of treating Maeriks with medical attention. This would be done before Maeriks is reunited with his friends.
As Maeriks walks with the armored Myrmidon he does his best to keep his breathing quiet and even, putting on his best "face" for the impressive warrior that saved him from the skull druid. Maeriks nods politely at each of the strangers as he meets them, carefully avoiding wincing with pain as he does so. After arriving in the basement levels and meeting Iasu, it doesn't take much before Maeriks lets his guard down and agrees to have the man administer whatever aid he may.

Maeriks sits quietly for a short while while Iasu works, watching what the man does as he administers. Then he speaks "These herbs you use remind me of what the old Diancecht hag mothers used.". Then speaks again after another short silence "You don't look like the others I see here mostly." And then again after another short silence "How you speak the tongue of the Danneinkiff? You Dannein?"

Maeriks would be genuinely curious about Dannein speakers since the majority of communication here has come through Byrn's translations. He is also trying to place where Iasu is from. Just what is the "Hechesi" style anyways? Does he have an accent to his Dannein?

@DMJ Are there any effects from the healing? (Doesn't seem like there would due to Zero HP State.) Maeriks will also drink the second dose of Blue tea.

After their conversation, Iasu works on Maeriks' wounds while Maeriks sits in silence, thinking hard about what happened with the skull druid. When Iasu finishes, Maeriks asks him to translate as he steps over to the resting Myrmidon and sits down next to him.

He pulls Reave from his pack and lays it across his knees. Indicating the weapon, he says "Reave. A powerful witch gave this to me. It belonged to her brother, Dunlay. He took it from a Kapek warrior in single combat. Dunlay was killed years later in battle and Kaevel his comrade took it. He brought it back and gave it to the witch. She gave it to me when we set out to kill the demon spawn Glaakieiou. I killed their leader, Gorolach, with Reave. I then became the leader, the Norach of the Bat Hannoc tribe."

He pauses, hoping he had remembered it right. He thinks he did. Then continuing "But all the Bat Hannocs are dead because of Gorolach. They died with honor, good deaths, fighting with me against their Norach Gorolach. Now I am the last of the Bat Hannoc..." He pauses again as a number of old faces are remembered.

The moment passes and he speaks a little softer "They fought with me before I thought I was Norach. It took me a long time to see it and understand it. When I took Reave into my hand is when I became the Norach - the Norach without a tribe. It is the greatest honor I will ever have."

He nods and blinks several times in thought. "The dark moon druid had taken me. Twice now I think. Ivor too. You've driven that filth off and saved me. For that I give this to you..." Maeriks stands and proffers the war club with both arms out stretched. "May you take the honor of the title Norach without a tribe. It is the greatest gift I have to give. And I give it to you as thanks."

Maeriks meets with the Cursed, before being reunited with his friends...

With Iasu translating even as he goes through his treatment assessment, Maeriks is able to communicate with the big myrmidon.

As the myrmidon listens to Maeriks's story, there is a stillness about him. He stands towering and listening intently. Motionless. Still wearing his mask and helmet.

As Maeriks continues to speak, the twins Akkeen and Adar-Malic come through the room. Their interests piqued, they begin to listen as well. They watch Maeriks and the myrmidon. Akkeen seems to become more concerned as the conversation goes on. There is some exchange of quick comments between Akkeen, Adar-Malic, and Iasu, in another language along the way.

When Maeriks finishes and offers the great war club Reave, the myrmidon looks down at the weapon and back up at Maeriks. His head tilts forward and he raises his hand to take off his visored war helm.

Akkeen objects and grabs the big man's hand, chattering something to him in the other language. It is obvious that the big warrior takes issue with the intervention. He barks back at Akkeen in his heavy voice with a clear tinge of anger. The smaller tattooed man backs away, but does not hide his contempt.
OOC:
(words heard by Iasu, the only PC Otessite speaker)…

Exposed Note to Jabes
Akkeen (in Otessite): "Do NOT! If they see you they will know. This is too important!"

Namtur (in Heshbaan): "Take your hand off mine. I do what I will."

The myrmidon takes off his helmet and mask and talks to Maeriks face to face. He speaks in Heshbaan, with Iasu translating.

He takes Reave from Maeriks and offers his hand for a grasp. He knows that Maeriks is dealing with the surprise and perhaps discomfort of looking upon his face. As if in answer to that, the myrmidon says,

With that Namtur turns and leaves towards the adjacent armory. He carries his new weapon with him and unbuckles the straps of his burnt armor as he walks.

Elam comes in from another room as he passes, and looks around with concern. He speaks to Akkeen and Iasu, surely asking what happened. There is some back and forth in the other language. Maeriks cannot understand the words spoken, but it seems like the newly arrived swordsman (Elam) is unhappy. Maeriks notices that the swordsman has dark golden eyes, and pointed ears.

OOC:
On Maeriks' slow recovery

CB, the ZHPS can be recovered from, but the real problem is that Maeriks went into throwing Death Saves. Beyond that, he actually endured one Death Mark. He almost died. Critical condition. Usually a 3 day recovery process just to start being able to do Short Rests. So beyond the miraculous healing, he cannot get any more HPs by normal means. In this case, that is going to mean that Iasu's healing poutices just can't offer much in the way of HPs...not right now at least. Tough ruling I know.

BUT...Iasu's bandaging and treatment will shorten recovery time for the future. More to follow on that when it applies.

AND...more immediate boost from some of the drinks and incense burns: Recovery of 1 Level of Exhaustion.

At the next active scene, after the reunion, Maeriks will be operating with Only 1 Level of Exhaustion.

Elam speaks to Kray, and signals to Bryn.
OOC:
(by translation from Heshbaan to Yuoric)
"It seems that your team needs to investigate the lower hearth chamber to find the Phoenix vault. If you can make the discovery that you claim you can, it could change our fortunes. There are reasons to believe that what you say is possible. In fact, I will count on it." The last he says with a bold confidence.

"Akkeen and Iasu will lead you there, and Ahri ka Shalim will accompany you." Elam points to the three men named.

"Namtur, Adar-Malic, and I will leave in advance. We will cause a diversion for you elsewhere, with hopes that we might pull Naram and his beasts away, at least for a time. With some luck, we may even be able to put an end to the hounds once and for all." He nods to Adar-Malic who nods back as he is packing a large backpack.

"I fear that you may still be discovered. There is one called Nabua who is clever - skilled at detecting intruders. Be on your guard and slay any man or monster who might beguile you. Work quickly. Once you have captured or learned what you can, meet at the Eagle Door. If what Bryn says is true, we will breech that enigma barrier and assault Suter-Set and the others within. Beyond the Eagle door lies the treasures that you seek."

OOC:
Take the recent posts however you will and drive it.

I think though that it is Game Time. Assault on the Cursed Palace 2.0.

Formalize records on equipment, stats, any last minute adjustments to get ready for active game.

Post up on the board if you are taking the Blue Vapor tea (Maeriks, Bryn, Kray have that option. I would say you could loot a dose from Sizhen as well. Wait...maybe Bryn has already done that.).

Other than that, I'm sort of hoping for a check-in to see if everyone is ready to rock going into next week. Dice rolling (RNG clicking) is imminent.

As everyone makes exchange and last minute preparations, Akkeen and Adar-Malic waste no time approaching Bryn.

"Well met, Bryn of the Danneinkiff," Akkeen says. "If you know of the Halonian Phoenix, show us your resources and tell us of your readings. You must be a learned scholar to have gleaned this secret knowledge. Share with us the writings you have; we will do the same. Together we might unlock the remnants of the ancients."
Oct 28, 2018 2:10 pm
Adar-Malic opens the cover flap of a folding leather bag. Inside are scrolls and skin parchments with writing. He brings one to the forefront and lays it out on a table to display to Bryn.

"This is a drawn image of the Eagle Door. Here are it's mechanism ports..."

The tattooed man goes on to describe many fascinating things to Bryn.

"You have done well in this time, physician," Elam says with a sincere look. He clasps Iasu on the shoulder. "I believe that you may have saved our way to victory by recovering these mercenary soldiers. Your aide speaks the truth of our good intent."

He pulls Iasu away to an adjacent room and speaks closely with him.

"Tonight we can change our fate, brother!"
he says in Heshbaan as they withdraw from the crowd.

He switches to Otessite to speak the next...

Elam approaches Ahri and says, "Honorable Ka Salim, I hope that we can move beyond our differences. It is true that I chose to incarcerate you briefly this last day so that I might discern your true purpose here and what the Rabisu wanted with you. I still do not know who your enemies are and why, but I would guess that they are influential and villainous indeed to be in league with Suter-Set and also the Korvarans."

He steps closer and speaks eye-to-eye, "Know this: if you can help us strike down the Rabisu, you will be striking against your enemies in the city with far more effect than you imagine. The web of lies and deception are woven thick throughout the City of Secrets. Tonight we can use our blades to cut through the traps and kill the most treacherous of the spiders."

"And let it not be forgotten," he adds with a bit of a sharp eye, "you can become rich man because of your daring."
