Jane looks between Wak and Goldie. "Ok, it's obvious we need to get geared up. What do you all think? Do we hit the hotel first or go get gear first?"
Feb 24, 2018 3:36 am
OOC:
With Jane as the "leader" of this shadowrun team, I don't want to make you all feel like you have to follow her lead. You're the PC group, I want you to be able to do what you want. So, let's get this moving on your terms.
Feb 28, 2018 6:33 pm
OOC:
As he's said, Vann thinks we need to go somewhere and all get on the same page.
Mar 1, 2018 4:03 am
OOC:
Ok. We're not seeing a whole lot of action lately. Everyone still here?
Mar 1, 2018 11:58 pm
"We should probably gear up first. When in Rome as they say..." Goldie replies. He knocked out a Red Harvest and lit it with his golden zippo.
Mar 2, 2018 3:35 am
Jane nods and leads you all to a market where you're able to pick up all your gear. It's open air and most of the stalls are old wood held together with rusty nails, old barbed wire, and covered with tattered tarps.
OOC:
All the gear on your character sheets is now with you. You don't have to spend anymore nuyen to buy it. Fully geared up!

Anyone have anything else they want to do here at the market? Any other shopping?
Mar 5, 2018 2:34 am
Wak just nods to her, "I agree with Goldie, let's get geared up then hit the hotel. We can come up with a plan then." Wak starts perusing the market and picking up a few things here and there. "They mainly speak Yoruba in this market, at least from what I remember."

"Hey Vann this would be a good place to put that silver tongue to use and ask about Samriel or about fencing items like a valuable map."
OOC:
Sorry guys, it was a crazy busy week at work. I am back
Mar 7, 2018 5:05 pm
OOC:
Sorry guys, guess I was confused, I thought we got our base gear back when we got the down payment.
Vann shakes his head, subvocalizing his reply to anyone sharing 'links and whispering it to the rest, "I don't think there is any point in making anymore moves until we all know and hopefully can agree on what moves need to be made. I'm especially not inclined to ask by name after a Mark in a public forum of unknown repute, in any circumstance. Shouldn't we be pursuing the antiques - they're our real goal, and seems to me chasing Samriel is only guaranteed to get us to those after him.

Also, you want a map, all ya gotta do is buy a Mapsoft.
"
Mar 8, 2018 2:49 am
Jane sighs, shaking her head. She sends a quick text message to the group, Someone find us somewhere private to talk. I need to get all your questions answered or we're going to end up floundering around for too long and miss him!
Mar 8, 2018 6:28 pm
Wak looks a little surprised at Van, Is he joking? "You know the item we are looking for isn’t a mapsoft but a real map, right? This is a market, where one might be looking to sell items ...". I need some Novacoke! Wak nods to the boss lady, "Is the hotel near here? Maybe we can talk there?" Now that he picked up the right gear, he sets up his comlink as Van suggested.
Mar 9, 2018 3:54 am
Jane nods her head, "It's not right next door, but near enough." She begins walking, taking shortcuts where they are offered.

When you arrive at the hotel, you see a squat building with thick concrete block walls. It's surrounded by a concrete block fence topped with barbed wire. Two men with dark skin and AKs stand outside the entrance through the fence. Jane passes them something via her comlink and they let the group in.

The owner soon walks the group into the hotel, talking up all the amenities. "Rooms are secure, no Matrix, no windows, no bugs. Chemical toilets are in shared bathrooms, two to every floor. I hope you enjoy stay!"

He opens the door to the first room. Everything is coated in a fine layer of red dust, just like the exterior of the building. This room is small in size, with two beds, two foot lockers and one small desk. A large lizard sits in the middle of one of the beds. Before anyone can comment on the lizard, a large cockroach wriggles into the room from a crack in the wall and the lizard leaps off the bed, scrabbles closer to the roach and with the flick of its tongue, the bug disappears with a chorus of crunches.

The owner looks back at the group, beaming. "See? No bugs!"
Mar 11, 2018 12:50 pm
"Nice." Goldie grunted as he walked into the room. He decided to remain standing, watching the lizard munch on the cockroach, while wondering if it was really worth it to take this job...
Mar 11, 2018 11:03 pm
As the owner leaves, Jane moves into the room after shutting the door.

"Ok," she says, "let's get all your questions answered. I'll answer what I can, there are some things that I don't know, either."
Mar 13, 2018 4:08 am
Wak just smiles, Well I've slept in worse conditions!! He speaks up, "Well we are looking for the thief, Samriel. He stole the Piri Reis map. What is that, by the way? So we are are looking for a place he could sell that map. And we are looking for other newcomers like ourselves as they may be buying the map? Does that about sum it up?"

Hmm anything else? "Do you know of any competitors they may be looking to buy the map? That way we can work both ends, seller and potential buyers. Do you happen to know any of Samriel's contacts here in Lagos? Anything may help? Seriously is there anything else we need to know?" He looks around to see if there are any other questions.

I used to do this sort of work, in a past life... seems ya can’t run fast enough. Jericho muses.

No matter. What’s important now is where to start. We don’t even know what we don’t know. That sounds like a contradiction, but it ain’t. How’d you find out Samriel took it? How’d you track him here? Who’s he likely working for? What’s he got at his disposal? We can’t go in blind, we need a couple leads and some lines to color inside of, ya know?
OOC:
Any chance I can make some checks (history-magic or forensics or... something...) to get some background on this item?

Here's what you know of the Piri Reis map:
Quote:
In 1513, Piri Reis, a high-ranking officer in the Imperial Turkish navy, allegedly drew a mysterious mapa mundi based on a
collection of older maps, including some that reportedly had survived the destruction of the Great Library of Alexandria. Inexplicably this map depicted the coastlines of the Americas, as well as an accurate portrayal of the Antarctic coastline, devoid of ice—surprising, indeed, since Antarctica wouldn’t be "discovered" until nearly three centuries later. Even more mysterious, researchers claim the last time the Antarctic coast was free from ice was likely 4,000 BC. Cartographers puzzled over the apparent use of spherical trigonometry, a technology that wouldn’t be available for three hundred more years. While Piri Reis claimed he drew the map from other, older maps, cartographers were bemused by the fact that it appeared to be based off maps that not only acknowledged the Earth was round, but had calculated its circumference within fifty miles of the true measure. For centuries, the map remained an oddity, dismissed by researchers and cartographers as one of the many items that just didn’t fit with
their understanding of history.

For years, the map remained under lock and key at the Topkapi Palace in Istanbul, where it was discovered in 1929. It remained there until the turmoil of the Eurowars swept through Turkey. Towards the end of the war, in 2034, the European forces seized Istanbul from the disintegrating Alliance for Allah. In the destruction and chaos that accompanied one of the most violent clashes in the Eurowars, many of the nation’s most valuable treasures were lost—among them, the Piri Reis map. Most believed it was destroyed when fires ravaged part of the Palace.

Jane looks around at everyone, waiting for their questions.

"We really do need to get on with the job. We need to find Samriel and retrieve the map."
OOC:
What do we need to move this along, peeps? Who's still here and interested? I'll start looking for some more players to fill any spots left vacant.
Mar 29, 2018 9:46 pm
After recounting to the group what he knows, Jericho says, An old one, that map. Delicate and yet resilient. Mysterious how it managed to be so ahead of it's time.

Jane, where's this guy likely to be? What's he got at his disposal? Who's he working for?

Where do you propose we start? This thing has stayed hidden for so long... might just be in it's nature to get lost again.
