The sound of scraping and hammering filled Momo's ears as he got close to the cartwright's shop. As usual for this time of year, the place was chaotically busy. The cartwright was under a wagon scraping on an axle. His boy was nearby swapping out tools that the cartwright may need. A strong and angry looking woman was exchanging shouts with various customers as they asked questions about times and cost. Her shouting stopped suddenly when she noticed Momo as he walked up. "You're either a gift or a curse," she said. "What do you want?"

Momo smiled and nodded his head slightly, "Hello. I am Momo. I need a wagon."

The woman scoffed at him. "Hello. I am Kate, and so does everyone else. However, the time when we sold wagons has passed. Right now we are very busy with repairing wagons. I'm sorry but I can't help you." She kept staring at Momo, which he took as a sign that she wanted to keep talking.

"I don't want to buy it. I just want to use it. Do you know where I can find a wagon to rent?"

Kate smiled at Momo and rested a finger to her lips in thought. "Hmmmm. I tell you what. Perhaps we can strike a bargain. A hulking brute like you could help lighten the load, so to speak. Follow me."
OOC:
I took a little liberty of creating the cartwright's wife's personality here, but based on your earlier post about creative freedom I thought you wouldn't mind so much. I didn't go so far as to create the challenge, but I'm assuming it'll be Athletics or STR related. I'll add the roll for it, and you can write up what Kate asks Momo to do, and whether or not it results in a rentable wagon opportunity. If you don't like it, let me know. I'll edit the post to remove the conversation.

'Here, you see this one?' Kate says, pointing out a wagon with a badly bent axle. 'Normally this would take several men to straighten out, and we just don't have the help. But maybe a big fellow like you can do it on his own.'

Momo takes a firm grip on the axle and heaves mightily. A thunderous crack splits the air and Momo sprawls on the ground, still clutching one half of the axle.

Kate looks at the fallen half-orc in shock, before bursting into laughter. 'Well, I never imagined anybody could do that! I'm sorry, lad, but I don't think that wagon is going to be of use to anybody for a while, now...'
OOC:
Linus that was a good example of what I'm looking for (shame about the roll), though I would have liked you to go even further and have told us what the challenge was, and how it turned out. Have an Inspiration token. In these 'skill challenge' scenarios I am happy for players to take a lot of creative license with the description, and to use broad definitions of the skills.

What are Davrick and Petrev doing?
Dec 29, 2017 7:17 pm
Well it is a short ride, im wondering is there anyone else that has rented a wagon that wouldn't mind having a few more passengers, im pretty good with horses, i think they see my size as not being very threatening

Davrick walks over to a couple horses that a the stable hands are attempting to hitch up with minor difficulty. He pulls a carrot out of his pocket to distract them to convince them to stay still.

See they love me and i can help then along the way their too for just allowing us to ride with them

Animal Handling - (1d20)

(13) = 13

Madam, while i do know times are busy, we are earnest in both our need to get a wagon and even more so that, the cretin Cyrus pays a very steep price for our use of one. Even if you, yourself dont have a spare perhaps you might be able to help us get a short loan of one. We really should only need it for several days. Plus you have our promise to cause cyrus as much trouble as we can, if not rid your town of him alltogether.

Yep sorry.
Going with a general wisdom check for the same reason.
PHB 178
"Other Wisdom Checks. The DM mighl call for a
Wisdom check when you try to accomplish tasks like
the following:
Get a gut feeling about what course of action lo follow"

We obviously have a broader interpretation of it, as we use perception also in its literal sense of how perceptive you are to not only objects but feelings. But happy with RAW interpretations as well.

General wisdom check about my feeling that the lady doesnt like cyrus - (1d20+1)

(16) + 1 = 17

Following Davrick's success with the animals and Petrev's mention of causing trouble for Cyrus, Kate visibly warms up to the party. 'Well, in that case, go and see Farmer Barret. He's staying the night at the Hammer & The Reed, having sold a load of turnips at market today. His boy was mixed up with Cyrus and came to a bad end, and Barret hates him more than a dwarf hates orcs. He'll walk home barefoot and eat his shoes if giving you his wagon will make mischief for that fiend.'
OOC:
Since everyone has had a turn, players can go again in any order.

Jace, I'm going to put that roll down as Insight.

OOC:
thanks for that, when i get home from holidays I'll brush up on my RAW skill definitions :-)
Why, thank you my Lady, we shall indeed go and speak to Farmer Barret. If you could tell me the way to the Hammer and Reed.
I promise i will do what i can to fix this towns blight when i return.

As i wander off to the Hammer & Reed, i spend some pleasant time musing over how i shall even the score between Cyrus and myself, after all what sort of dread pirate would allow that sort of affront to go unresolved

OOC:
Assuming we all share knowledge...
Mantra walks near to Farmer Berret, trying to look as though he has something to hide, and discreetly says to him I heard you hated Cyrus.. When the farmer begins to stir, Mantra spins a lie. We're planning a raid on one of his warehouses, the one where he keeps all the best stuff, and we need a wagon and some horses to transport people and equipment to the location a town over. Could you help us with that?

Rolls

Deception - (1d20+5)

(19) + 5 = 24

Jan 2, 2018 8:08 am
'So Cyrus has run afoul of a real fiend. My heart bleeds for him. Come this way.' The farmer leads you to the stables and hitches the wagon up himself. 'This is Nugget, and this is Gypsy,' he says, introducing two large draft horses.'They ain't fast, but they're steady. Take good care of them.'
OOC:
Congratulations, you are now the proud owner of a wagon and two draft horses.
What do you want to do now?
Jan 2, 2018 12:35 pm
Momo walks up to Nugget and Gypsy, running his hand along each of them. "I like horses."

He then helps to attach them to the wagon so that the group can begin traveling.
Jan 2, 2018 1:07 pm
Well, my hardy and homely companions. I need my beauty sleep if i am going to be at my best at O's birthday.
So if you could wake me in a few hours, when it is my turn to drive, i would be very grateful. Also please don't touch me, to wake me. I would hate to see you perforated.

With his little speech out of the way, Petrev stretches out in the back of the wagon and falls asleep.
Jan 2, 2018 4:46 pm
We'll return it in 3 days, if all goes to plan. I insist you take this gold for your trouble. Mantra says while climbing in the back and handing the man 5gp.
Jan 3, 2018 5:05 am
It is a fine day for travel and the beginning of the journey is swift and pleasant. The road is wide and well-made, bordered by dry-stone walls, as are the fields in the rolling hills, dotted with sheep. From his vantage point atop the wagon, Mantra spies a familiar figure ahead on the road, travelling in the same direction as the party.
OOC:
Mantra has recognised someone from his past. Endermun, would you please describe this person, and tell us why Mantra thinks they might be there?
Jan 5, 2018 8:14 pm
OOC:
Sorry everyone.
Gods damn it. Mantra says as he spots a tall, green figure surrounded by 3 wolves. It's Morgle, the Wolfmaster. The orc was behind a series of livestock deaths in a town far behind Mantra where Morgle was forcefully evicted from a cave he was living in and scared into becoming a helpful part of society rather than living off of other people's animals. After killing a couple of his wolves (whom Morgle loved like children) Mantra's relationship with the orc was uneasy at best and violent at worst when his lost love made them travel together.. At heart, though, Morgle was only trying to make his way in the world and isn't evil. He's likely been traveling around, looking for ways to feed himself and his wolves. Mantra is still mad about one of the wolves biting his finger off and scarring his hand. He hides in case the orc is feeling particularly resentful.

Rolls

Stealth - (1d20+4)

(3) + 4 = 7

Jan 6, 2018 6:03 am
Catching the wolves' scent, the horses shy and whinny before coming to a halt, refusing to move closer to the pack. The orc barks a command to the wolves, who obediently drop to their haunches in the middle of the road, and holds up a hand to the party in a gesture of peace. 'Hail, travellers! I would speak with you,' he calls.
Jan 6, 2018 7:11 am
Ho, my tall green friend. How go you, this fine day? What friendly pets you have. And what is it you would like to talk about?
Jan 6, 2018 9:44 am
Morgle studies the surrounding hills before approaching the wagon, the wolves following at his heels. 'Quietly, if you would,' he says, 'these hills have ears.' Nugget rears, the whites of his eyes showing, and the orc begins to speak softly. Momo recognises the words as soothing phrases spoken in orcish.
OOC:
Someone give me an Animal Handling roll (at advantage) to keep control of the horses.
Jan 6, 2018 11:46 am
Momo steps out of the wagon, surprised to see someone as big or even bigger than himself. As he walks around the horses, he runs his hand along the back of one and tries to lend it some peace. He addresses the wolf master. "Hello, I am Momo. What's your name?"
