Character Generation
Go ahead and roll stats in this thread. 4d6 drop the lowest. Do this 7 Times. Drop the lowest.

I would like to have input with everyone on backstories as it will help tie you guys into at least the early part of the story. So we can work that out through pm.
Keep the races the ones from the players handbook. And classes from official D&D releases. Backgrounds I’m open to just about anything just send me the info so I have it.

Use the basic starting equipment and gold for class and background.

If there are any other questions just ask.

Another note: you all have a common friend. A dwarf named Gundren Rockseeker. He is the reason the party will come together. Think about how you know may know Gundren or one his brothers Nundro and Tharden.

Is there a background "guideline" we have to follow to be tied in?
Would you consider Mystic to be released?

You can choose any "background" but I have some backstory tidbits I would like to add in to each character so they tie in better

And I like the mystic class so I’m cool with it. Just make sure to list all your relevant abilities clearly on the character sheet

Thanks for having me here! Looking forward to building an interesting party and an awesome story together with you all.

Rolling stats has been good to me for my last 2 characters, let's see if it is time for my luck to run dry...

Yep! That's okay :) Should make for a fun character. Stat pool is 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14! It's a straight.

So, with the stats I rolled I've been thinking about making Sariel, a half-elf warlock / paladin.

STORY
Sariel is the child of star-crossed lovers, a good human paladin who tried and failed to redeem the dark elf warlock he loved. Her mother sold the child of darkness and light to the Dark Powers for personal gain. But even though her soul belongs to the Shadowfell, Sariel will spend her life doing as much good with her powers before being dragged off into the darkness.

Probably not going to be too brooding/emo with Sariel. This has edgelord written all over it, but I would play her as good-natured, although pissed off about the fate her father sold her into. While she is prone to violent outbursts, she will mostly be trying to stack up the number of ticks in the Good column with the hope that she can balance the evil that will come from her mother's betrayl. The story is a redemption arc but not from her own deeds, so I feel I will be free to play her as less edgy/brooding and mostly good, but with a dark side.

Sariel believes her father is dead but her mother is alive.

PARTY CONNECTIONS
I'm assuming (because we're playing an adventure path) that we will mostly be a good party. If it's not shaping up that way, I will try to change the concept to match. If it does shape up to be a mostly good party, an easy connection would be that one or more of the characters in the party was responsible for bringing her back from the darkness or helps keep her in the light. Maybe HypCo's mystic uses his mental powers to soothe Sariel's troubled mind in troubling times?

MECHANICS (awaiting DM approval)
If it meets with your approval, Sclasclemski, I'd start with the Hexblade patron from Xanathar's guide. Sariel will therefore be able to use Charisma as her attack and casting stat, which makes up for her otherwise weak stats.

I'll make sure I take at least a 13 in strength so I can multiclass in Paladin shortly after, eventually going with the Oath of Vengence to avenge her fallen father. Not sure how the levelling will go. It will probably depends on how the story goes, but at the moment I feel like it will start on the light side with lots of Paladin and then get darker with lots of warlock as she gets into the higher levels.

Ah, my bad, I meant backstory. Are we allowed to roll for starting wealth? If not, can I exchange a couple items for others? I get a lot of junk that I feel doesn't mesh well for my concept. Background used: Here.

I'm almost done making my character. Sorry for taking awhile, there is a lot to choose from!

Okay, cool; I'm mostly just throwing stuff away.

Exchange:
Spear/Mace (Value: 1/5 gp) -> Two arrows (Value: 1 sp)
Monster Hunter's Pack (Value: 33 gp) -> Shield (Value: 10 gp)

I have played Phandelver once up until the first encounter and the game was stopped... I do hope that we will fare better :D

@HypCo, reason I'm asking is that I have concept of mystic based "ninja" (Nomad). So if GM doesn't mind two mystics - I'd love to play this character :)

Perhaps Gundren, Nundro and Tharden can be a common tie that brings our party together?

Scalsclemski, can you tell us more about them? What line of work are they in? Are they compassionate do-gooders, hardhearted pragmatists, etc?

The Rockseeker brothers are your typical dwarven prospectors. They have been drawn to the Phandalin area because of an old legend of a cave Long lost. They are definitely good folk with a nose for treasure.

And I'd like switch Disguise Kit (25gp) + 10gp -> Lute (35gp)

And one Costume clothes (5gp) -> Traveler's clothes (2gp)

Do I get 3gp "change"? Even if not, I'm fine with empty wallet :D

What city or area are we starting in? I'm assuming the adventure is set on the Sword Coast.

I was thinking about making a cavalier fighter. Toying with the idea maybe making a gnome or a dwarf, haven't fully decided yet. I'll admit, I saw the 19 and got excited lol then minus four... womp womp.

I have a fighter!! A Goliath Barbarian, who after lvl 1 takes all fighter levels, focusing on a Battlemaster path. Longsword + Shield evolves to Longsword + Grapple, for max control. Seccond wind + Stones endurance for incredible tanking. 17 ac unarmored. Beast.

Go to your Character List, there should be four icons: A Cog, A Pencil, A Book, and An 'X'. The book will be gray for you, click on it, it should turn red then others will be able to view your character sheet.

Shared vs. Unshared.

Okay I did a quick rebuild, but not that much different this is almost a mirror image of my current Adventure League character, he's quite funny in combat and i feel really solid playing him...

I brawled my way through every backalley tavern from here to Neverwinter. Figured I was so good at crackin skulls, I'd try my hand at Gladiatin. Now I ain't tryin to brag on myself or nuthin' - but I was pretty darn good... then I caught wind of all these critters and varmits y'all adventurin types like to tussle with - and well, I reckon' I'd be pretty darn good at that too. So watch out - cuz THE SHIELD is about to bust up every muckdwellin' monster and two-bit spellslinger 'till every tavern I ever got kicked outta is singing songs of my glory!"

The Shield - Human (variant) - Barbarian (1) - Gladiator - Tavern Brawler

The Shield earned his name from the arena - and his signature fighting style. You guessed it - The Shield uses his shield as a weapon in combat, and his mixture of tavern brawling and improvised shenanigans is the stuff of legends. Although the shield doesn't scale very well in tier 3, he makes up for it in tier 2 by multiclassing to a rouge, using his barehand to get sneak attack bonuses. Although The Shield is a "Sub-Optimal" character, i feel like he makes up for his reduction in damage output with all the times he throws someone off a ledge or otherwise controls the enemy through grappling. So from a technical perspective he just throws out hits to keep his rage going so he gets a free grapple every round at an advantage. He's not built for fury cause he's got bonus actions covered by feats so I take him down Bear Totem instead. But mechanics aside, this guy is probably the most ridiculous character i ever played and yet, at the same time, he seems so believable. Hope this works for you.

Hi there, I'll be joining you as fast as I can in-game.
I'm an experienced rpg player and GM (mostly GM nowadays), but this is my first PbP experience. Hope it'll go smoothly!

Damn, I forgot to roll the 7th!! Maybe I won't need to be that unintelligent?

Edit: Final stats are 10, 13, 14, 14, 14, 17 (before any bonus). That's good, actually!

Been debating if I should use entertainer or sage as her background. She is a bard but has been living for years with wizards and is more of I have this legend to tell you about then a lets go to the tavern and let me entertain you.

I am leaning toward sage.

Have a question on race. Does an elf get the +2 dex bonus plus the subrace bonuses as well?

Sage definitely sounds like a better match to me. Have you considered Cloistered Scholar? It may be a good option too...

I went with sage. I only have the core books and don't see it in there. I think it will be a good fit. Hopefully my character will be approved and into the game I will go.
