Perhaps rightly so; Baracus and Rydler are a scary duo. I'm amazed at how well they compliment each other.

Jabes, you're doing great. This is engaging, descriptive, and action-packed. Two thumbs up :)

Same feedback from me. Good times, Jabes!
Thanks, guys! We had some hiccups but I've learned from the mistakes, I think. :-)

Just throwing some theatrics in there for this non-barbarian rage session, DM Jabes. Will send Athletics, Attacks, etc. if this needs to turn into mechanical Grappling by the book.
Urban is in a familiar scene from his teamster enforcer days: on a dusty road, in a cart, and some guy says he doesn't want to pay.
He's not much on excuses and long explanations.
No rolls necessary at this point. That Goodfellas scene is perfect! Now I've permanently cast young De Niro as Urban in my head! Urban going ape-shit over his books...I love it!

I really love the characterization that each of you has given to their PC. Shouldn't expect anything less from this group. You guys really are the best bunch of players any DM could possibly hope for! Makes my job easier (you move the story along with hardly any prodding from me) but also harder (I gotta stay on my toes!). All in all, this is turning out to be a fun ride already!

Y'all, who do you think the leader of the team is?

Seems like either Rydler or Erdan are the best candidates. I know it's not Urban.

To me it just seems like the others know what to do and don't have to wait for commands in a general sense, especially during Action Scenes. But at the same time would kind of wait for a decision from the lead guy on the bigger more subjective things (like where to go next).

We all talk democracy democracy all day long in the modern day, but this unit strikes me as inherently used to the idea of command/authority structure within their background and the setting, even if they are renegades and don't apply sharp hierarchy in all things.

Thoughts?

Needless to say, there doesn't have to be a leader but it does make perfect sense since you were a military unit.

Completely agree. I really enjoy watching you play Rydler. The mechanics you are employing are quite similar to what I wanted to accomplish with Leothorn in Mardav's game but we probably aren't getting past level 1. Not a problem; seeing the proof of concept working so well is great.

Hey, would you mind if Rydler kept track of Baracus's share of the gold? He is superstitious of coins being evil. He acknowledges they have value and might eventually use them (or maybe melt them down into jewlery) but would prefer to keep his share in the hands of a Holy Man.

If we need an unspoken leader, my vote is for Erden, he seems like the more morally straight of the two.

Yeah, a real shame; I was really looking forward in playing Ryvelli. As to a gold keeper, you probably couldn't of picked a worse choice (well, perhaps Ybus but for different reasons). While he is religious, he is far from a Holy Man and hasn't quite gripped the concept. He'd be more than happy to hold the gold, just full disclosure, some of that gold might "accidentally" end up in his own pouch.

It don't matter to me who the leader is, though I agree it would make the most sense for it to be either Rydler or Erden. They seem to be the most... Stable of the team lol

Erden is a softie at heart, though he's more than happy to pretend to be scary to make a point.

Sounds perfect! Honestly, I don't imagine him spending much gold throughout the adventure, monks and barbarians need next to zero equipment anyway.

Yo, DM Jabes. I just read back through that narrative scene all the way through, with Barracus and Erdan saying we are going to the city, Aditya quaking in his boots, everyone loading up on the black and red cart.

Did that fit the bill for a "Prologue" or what?!
Do you think our theme song is queued up and title font is flashing up on the screen right now or what?!

Great job, Jabes. You painted a perfect intro scene. Everybody in the theater is warmed up for this movie - looks like a blockbuster.

Looks like it's been decided: the team is going to Pradesh (the city). I just want to reiterate that you guys are free to go literally anywhere on the map. Aditya has been pulling for the city of course but that's just the character, not me as DM trying to guide you or anything. I'm not sure if I handled that scene as well as I'd like. I decided upon conception that this game will be episodic in nature so it's going to be quick jobs that you pick up wherever you happen to be - there's not going to be an overarching story arc.

Am up to my elbows (as opposed to the usual up to my eyeballs) in work this weekend. Will move things forward Monday at the latest, starting with a narration of your arrival at your next destination. In the meantime, feel free to RP while the group takes a short rest or heads for the city. Any OOC feedback is also very welcome. Cheers, guys!

Don't worry, I'm sure I do not just speak for myself when I say I do not feel railroaded. Everything about this world is new and shiny. I could have dug around on that spice farm for another 200 posts and still be entertained. What, there's a seedy city with a high risk / high reward scenario that promises to be action packed? I'm in. Honestly I'm grateful for a clear direction as I figure out my character and his relations to the other characters.

Hey I totally missed this! You know, that scene was straight up Riggs and Murtaugh with Leo Getz! Classic.

I'm glad you're enjoying it so far. The new story post is now up! I'm sorry it took so long!

Yeah there's definitely a lot going on in Pradesh. I wouldn't call it seedy (though some parts of it definitely are) - more like decadent and debauched, even degenerate. But you know what the say, "What happens in Pradesh stays in Pradesh!"

You guys are splitting the party on the newbie DM? Sheesh, teaching me the hard lessons now, huh? :-D Challenge accepted.

Haha, whoops. Yup, you are running 2 games now. I can remember all the times this happened in Isle of Dread - it's payback time!

Haha nice try, J, but no. You've split the party with no rendezvous point/time other than Aditya's "I'll be here with your gold when you come back." Urban, Aditya, and Ybus are still together (for now). Narration incoming.
Haha! Nah, sorry I was just visualizing it casual, rolling around in a city chillin' attending to some mundane things or off-camera normality. Actually trying to stay with Aditya, not just let him go and come back later (that's what I thought was about to happen, but maybe was mistaken).

I'm all in it to win it though if we are staying in formation on mission--def no intent to rock the boat or go renegade. Yikes!

Don't worry, it's Dasai. Nothing bad could possibly happen! Hehehe!
Mar 2, 2018 5:07 pm
Nope, I only run this game. The other is my repository of notes for all my characters.

Guys, even though work has been lighter than usual, I've really been struggling to maintain 1 post a day because my girlfriend is sick and needs tending to. So I apologize.

There are a couple of ways to manage a split party:

* You could set up a second thread that chronicles the adventures of one half of the party, while the rest stay in the main thread.
* You could also run it like Isle of Dread where we all stay in the main thread, and you separate the results by characters.

If it were a table setting, you might work with one half of the party and switch to the others at an appropriate moment, while mentally tracking how much time each side would have spent. Sort of like the TV or comic trick using Meanwhile.

Since it doesn't seem like there's an urgent need to regroup at a specific time, you could be flexible as to when the party meets up. It's assumed that characters would be doing light activity that's not worth describing, such as cleaning weapons/armor or studying spellbooks, or I don't know, clipping toe nails.

For the record, Ybus is just going where the winds take him. He'll dance and play with powder until he gets bored and looks for a drink. Since I'm not specific as to where, it's a convenient way to say, "Oh wow, through sheer halfling luck, the dancing throng happens to deposit Ybus at the exact tavern that the others have chosen."
