So now with both him and HypCo gone indefinitely, we have some decisions to make:
1. I want to continue to DM for you guys if you'll still have me.
2. I am okay with just the 3 of you, but also would not be against recruiting.
3. Do you want to keep playing your current characters? I'm sure we can make up an excuse for Urban and Rydler to go away. Might be a bit weird to split up the group given their fierce loyalty to each other. Then again, maybe not.
4. If we go with new characters would you agree to keep playing in the same world? You could be Cysegrian agents, members of the Q'lactsh underworld, we could set a story in a different time period, or any number of other things (I'm sure you guys can come up with dozens of cool ideas).
5. J and Hyp are welcome back anytime!

I'd love to hear your thoughts!

1. I'm staying.
2. Either way is fine. I'm sure there's a way to incorporate new players if you recruit.
3. I'd like to keep playing my current character. If we need a reason to split, some could go with Valrakas while others go chase down the cultists.
4. I like this world and would like to keep playing in it, so if we need to roll up new characters, I'm down.

My answers are the same as CancerMan's, it looks like! Overwhelmingly interested in staying, flexible with whatever happens. I do really like Baracus and hope to play him till 20th level if possible! But, I'm down with rolling up a new character if that is what is best for the game.

Thanks for staying, guys! Okay, we'll continue the current story. No recruitment (at least for the time being). I'll move us forward tonight and we'll see if we need to make adjustments.

Waterborne Movement: The rulebook says a rowboat can go 1.5mph. That's 13.2ft per round. It also says you can't row against the current, but for simplicity and fun we're going to say instead that Baracus can row upstream at 10ft/round and still manage to Attack. Can take the Dash action to row twice that distance.

Underwater Combat as per PHB. For simplicity we will apply the same mechanics to combat where attacker is attacking from above the water's surface and target is underwater.

If I row away from the whipjawed monster fish (cool image btw!) do I or we take opportunity attacks? Also, I assume if I row away, I leave anyone in the water behind? And, for a third question, do those in the boat make any headway toward the gap or the rocks?

1. The monster cannot attack you directly while you're in the boat, but it can attack the boat itself.
2. If you row away, the monster might attempt to capsize the boat as an opportunity attack.
3. You can certainly try to row to shore. The monster cut you off before, but now that it has prey in the water it just might leave the boat alone.
4. Yes, if you row away you leave swimmers behind. Ybus can actually swim faster than the boat (25ft w/o dashing) but Erden, if he fails his save and ends up in the drink, would be in big trouble.

In case you're not aware, the helicoprion is a real-life extinct species. Heard about it on Nat Geo. :-D As soon as I saw that thing I told myself I'd use it as a D&D encounter if I ever DM a game someday. And here we are! :-)

Hey folks, just a heads up that I will be taking a vacationover the last 3 weeks of August. I'll be camping from the 13th to the 18th so I will be unavailable then. After that, I'm uncertain how posting will be affected. Probably not much.

Guys,

I know Len has his hands full with his summer job, and then he has his vacation coming up (Have fun!). Naatkinson's wife is recovering from surgery (Best of luck to her!) and of course J and Hyp are also still dealing with stuff. I still see you three guys posting (Thanks for the effort!) but real life should take priority so I wonder if it might be a good idea to step back a bit for now and just come back strong when everyone has a little bit more headspace?

I am okay either way. Let me know your thoughts.

I agree with Naat. Much easier to post from a phone as a player than as a DM, so my frustrations in the Night Blades game is not reflected quite the same over here. Will be gone for 5 days or so for sure coming up in 1.5 weeks, but either CancerMan or Naatkinson are welcome to take over Baracus. Just punch things, treat your weapons and friends with love and respect, and be overly concerned with proving yourself.
