Howdy, folks! This is my very first game on gamersplane, so please be patient with me how I figure out how to do everything. I've got over a decade of PbP experience on conventional forums, so it's just a matter of figuring out the gamersplane way of doing things. Thanks!

Hey y'all, happy to be here! I'll get to work on making my character tomorrow. How do you feel about revised ranger and Xanathar's subclasses? Just an idea I'm mulling over haven't decided for sure yet. I may end up going halfling Swashbuckler.

Swashbuckler is pretty badass and I’m not really familiar with the revised ranger but I’m pretty open as long as everything is spelled out on the character sheets.

I'm thinking either monk or paladin, since those are two classes that I don't play as often. Is there anything in particular that I should know about the setting?

Other than that, it is generally a high magic realm whete occassionally the gods have been known to walk amount mortals. Epic evil and legendary good wage battle across a diverse landscape.

If homebrew I'm thinking about combat medic or seeker if official content I'm leaning heavily towards faction agent - order of the gauntlet...and I may ultimately choose that anyway

I reserve the right to refuse homebrew backgrounds. Combat Medic and Seeker are both acceptable.

I've approved the 3 characters submitted last night but I haven't reviewed any of the 4 yet. Ill go over them maybe tonight.

Just a heads up, I took Faction Agent background. In case you are worried about overlap of backgrounds.

I'm not sure it's mentioned anywhere but I assume we are starting at 1st level?

Qralloq are you good with multiple people have the faction agent background? And the factions chosen?

So, I rarely play a wizard and I don't think I have in 5e. As a 1st level wizard, I can have 6 spells in my spellbook and can prepare 4 per day. Does this mean all of the spells I have (6) have to be 1st level.

I think that will be fine.

You also don't need to have ritual spells prepared for the day in order to cast them as a ritual. Just a tip.

And Cantrips don't have to be prepared, correct?

Right, you have limited Cantrips but they're unlimited in use.

Glad to hear it! I don't want to steal the spotlight from the other players, though, this just happens to be his element. When we get to the wilderness and dungeons and stuff, other characters will get to be awesome and Dazzle will be merely providing support.

Balak has scored a critical hit. Anyone have any house rules we could consider?

For example, Chris Perkins house rule is to assume the extra dice rolled are automatically maximum. For example, a fighter crits with his Maul which normally does 2d6+3, on a crit that becomes 15 + 2d6. I like this for PBP because it doesn't require a second post or editing your first post to add extra dice.

I use just doubling the rolled dice then add the modifier...that way nothing extra is required

so in this instance I would say the damage dealt was 16 rolled a 6 double that to 12 then add 4

I vote for the Chris Perkins version.

When monsters appear they be referenced as, for example Zombies, Z1 Z2 and Z3 respectively...just so that its easier to determine reference points and who is attacking who and who is where

The astute amoung you will notice that Skeeze has pulled out of the game, taking Walter Flagg with him. He sent me a note saying that IRL has taken precedence for his time.

The game is currently open for 6 players. Let me know if you have any feelings about closing it to 5, or leaving it open, or even actively recruiting.

I think it's a good idea to try to keep 6 people active in the game. I'd prefer referrals over recruiting, given the option.

I think 6 is a good number that I target in my games as well...how you get there though is irrelevant (to me anyway) as long the player is active!!

How do you feel about default actions for each character? That way if we don't post within X days you can post for our character?

I'm thinking that might just be what I do. Two days sound right, then a default simple attack action?

It's kinda cool as a DM when you just leave and when you come back, the players are still roleplaying. Just had a three day holiday, now back. Planning on posting tomorrow to get us into the next adventures, and resolving the Driftglobe identification.

You can use the PHB prices and assume anything typical can be purchased at those prices. No need to roleplay that.

Two things to discuss:

1. It's NaNoWriMo and this is taking more of my time than I anticipated. I'm trying to be here daily, but if there isn't anything pressing or I'm waiting for someone, I'll probably just leave it. That said, I'll advance us to the next scene tonight.

2. I've received some private feedback, and thought that is a good prompt for a status check with the rest of you regarding how the game is going for you. We hammered through the prequel side quests pretty efficiently, I think, but before the gristle hits the plate for the meat of the adventure, is there anything you'd like to see more of, or less of? Is the game too slow, or too fast (i.e., skipping RP opportunities)?

I am very much enjoying Balak, but I would like to continue through the adventure. I want to explore his personal adventure hook.

I am enjoying Felicia, though it's been hot and cold with connecting with her to me it feels like. *shrugs* I'm definitely still good to continue and the pace hasn't been TOO bad so far.

I’ve been good...it’s like any game on pbp. Sometimes fast, sometimes slow, sometimes just right. I have no complaints. Enjoying the story.

Unfortunately I'm going to have to drop this game. Hope to game with you again sometime!

Swift Action seems to be a 3.5 rule, how does this work with Actions & Bonus Actions? Can I do all 3?

I use the term Swift Action from 3.5, you're right. I'm not sure there is a 5e equivalent. Essentially, Controlling your mount doesn't take any of your Action at all.

Mounted Combat is poorly described in the books, so I'm relying on some clarification tweets by one of the game designers, heh. I don't want the rules to get in the way of it being cool aerial combat, so do what you want and I'll try and interpret your intention in the most beneficial way I can.

The equivalent would probably be free Action

Sorry about that. I'm definitely still interested. Felicia was kind of going along with the group as they had a pretty well-defined path they were wanting to take. With Balak's departure, she'd likely want to push more for a visit to the monastery before going to the other location.

That said, if the others aren't keen on continuing, I'm good with doing whatever. :)

Hey everyone, I wanted to make you all aware that I very much love playing with you!
However, I wanted to make clear that some days I may have more time than others to jump in and post.
I have not abandoned the game if it has been a few days and am thinking through the game as a plod on in my overly busy life.
This game and site is my outlet of free time and I apologize to have left you in the lurch.
It is never my intention and I fully respect what we are doing here.
I give you permission to, if I have not responded in a bit and we need to move forward, move Em as if she were silently watching behind the legs of whoever is in the back and I will catch up as soon as I can to tell you what information I have gleaned from facial ticks of NPCs :P

I think this is something that happens to us all from time to time UncleCreepy. I myself am just getting back from a combination of vacation out of the country followed up by a family emergency hogging up my time and energy. Communicating with your DM's and players (if you are dming) is usually all it takes to keep people from having any issues with disappearances. The reason we play pbp is because life demands make it difficult to get in our fix on the regular at real tables. No worries...

No problem, UC. Out of combat, quiet characters are fine. In combat, I'll roll for them after a suitable wait.

Supah_Dupah had been offline for 22 days. Uncle_Creepy has been having troubles staying connected.

I'll NPC them this combat, then we should discuss whether continuing with just the four of you might just be for the best.

I've kicked Supah_Dupah, and invited Silver.Hawk. I think he's got a Cleric/Monk he wants to use, but we'll see. Uncle_Creepy will also get booted once combat is over.

Work is pretty hectic at the moment, I might be slow posting over the next week or so

I absolutely hate that I have to write this but I'm afraid I need to go on hiatus for an indeterminite amount of time. My work life has simply become too demanding for me to perform the level of work that I need to as well as provide my family the love and attention they require. As a result of those demands, the gamersplane emails have morphed into another form of stress as it feels like another "task" I need to accomplish during the course of the week instead of something I look forward to as it once was not 6 months ago. I love this community and the people I have met here. Great creative people.

I hope that somehow my workload can be reduced in the future so that I can return in some capacity, but I have been kidding myself for the past several months as my games have drug on and on as my posting rate has steadily declined. My apologies to my players as I have had so much fun dm'ing and guiding these stories. As well to my DM's who done the same for me.

It has been a wonderful year and a half and wish you all the best!

Qralloq - this has been a great game and I have enjoyed your DM style. You have managed to press the action when needed to keep the game moving. Its been great.

I note that Viking1031 has expressed that he has a third level Faerun, Sword coast based character that he wants to play, so he might be a good fit. Well I just submitted my character so i am looking forward to playing her. My last game she got introduced, had an argument, played some music and the game died.

So I renamed her for this game but she still has the same quirks.

Just figured I ask what information is a must read to know what is going on, so i can get up to speed on the game. I am not a new gamer but 5th ed is still new to me so I will probably have questions along the way.

I've recruited new players to replace those who left, but this game has still slowed a bunch. I'd like to know if we should abandon this project. Please let me know if you're interested in continuing, and are willing to post more than once every couple of weeks.

Well I just got here so I am game.

I just joined I’m ready Berci is just patient.

I am still interested, especially with some new folks bringing some new excitements to the fray.

I'm good to continue. My stint of inactivity ended yesterday as I returned from holidays.
I haven't been in the game as long as Sailor/moofs so was hesitant to take the lead in asking questions

Ghouls! At the disco!

Figured I move this out of gameplay. Cannot find where i read about only one check for the same condition per round so I am thinking I read it in a forum not a rulebook.

I also found this neat cheat sheet for what you can do each turn.

I’m do d&d pbp entirely on my iPad. The Dropbox link appears in the text field, but, for me at least, it’s not a clickable link or an image. It also only gives me 2 options when I press and hold on the link. Save image, or copy. Neither option works for me.

When we were fighting in Riverguard Keep when I first joined the game the map you linked would load for me. But not since we started the current thread.

If I retype the listed Dropbox link and then copy paste it in my search bar then I can see the image. That’s the only way I’ve been able to get it to work so far.

I'll put together a Google Sheet so you can place and move your positions. ETA: 6 hours

This encounter is definitely going pear shaped.

Thanks for participating in this adventure. Some of you joined recently, others from the beginning. I wanted to run one of these epic WotC campaign books, expecting greatness. Unfortunately, I could not sufficiently pass on their vision through to you.

This last encounter, entirely designed for your level, was a death trap. I do not know how you could survive unless you killed every occupant of the monastery before confronting the priest. He is obsessed with keeping his secrets, and his primary spell, Shatter, thunders so loud it can be heard for 300'. Every occupant, all of whom are servants of evil, would come to the defense.

Anyway, remember to tip your waiter.

Guess we should have went down the stairs.

That was also a trap.

But a trap we possibly could have survived.

Oh well such is life, it was fun while it lasted.

After that first Shatter spell from the priest, I told myself, "thIs won’t end well!" At least we know now that it was practically an unavoidable and most likely fatal situation. Just out of curiosity (NO SPOILERS if possible), if we went down stairs would we still have an almost certain chance of death as well?

Also, monk cleric isn’t necessarily a good multi class combo... I needWIS and CON for spell count and concentration for the good spells but I also need DEX for both AC and damage. Compared to a lvl 4 in monk or cleric the 2/2 didn’t feel very good. Not enough ki points to be an effective monk, not enough wisdom or strength to be an effective cleric.......

oh well thx for the good game Qralloq! Hope I end up in one of your games again someday!

The stairs down were a sliding trap triggered by the priest (who was really a type of sorcerer who could wear splint mail). He would have followed that up with spell attacks, but you would have started potentially more damaged.

Ouch, well it was fun at least I did finally get to play Sassy for a bit.
