Reminder: The cave mouth opens into darkness from which a breeze blows, carrying the faint odor of death. Inside is a natural cave, its floor and ceiling uneven. The passage leads to the west, narrowing as it proceeds. A body is sprawled on the floor 60 feet into the passage.

The corpse of a human male is sprawled here on its back. It wears only leather breeches.
OOC:
You can see on the small map the corpse if you squint, against the wall 3 squares up from "L1".

The cave is a silent as the grave. The local wilderness has only wilderness sounds, such as birds and insects doing what they do.

Walter walks up to the corpse, his torch held out in front of him, Poor sap, I wonder what happened to him. He leans over the dead body and inspects it, searching for cause of death.

When finished, Sorgrimm rises and moves into the cave following the others as if nothing was wrong.

The detect magic field lasts for 10 minutes so Sorgrimm will be actively searching for signs of magic.

OOC:
Do zombies radiate magic? Probably, but that's the only magic source.

OOC:
Actually they don't. It was in a tweet from Crawford. Undead can't be picked up on Detect magic spells. The spell would be picked up when it's cast, but not the undead made by the spell.

By Grap-thar's hammer, you shall be returned to your natural order! Balak is ready for action.

Rolls

Initiative - (1d20+2)

(8) + 2 = 10

The body lurches into motion, filled with some dark energy, and the zombie stands, slamming its limbs to Walter Flagg, it's ragged nails scraping his armor but not causing any damage.

Each of you may respond, in no particular order. At the IRL table, I would maintain initiative order as rolled, but in PBP,
in the interests of expediency, any order is fine. Initiative then boils down to determining who attacks before the foes.

Rolls

Zombie slam - (1d20+3, 1d6+1)

1d20+3 : (10) + 3 = 13

I move into a position where no one is between me and the zombie. Through the fires of the Nine Hells, I, Alyx the Necromancer extraordinaire return you to your death! As I speak, I form a fireball in my hands, launching it at the zombie.

Rolls

Fireball - (1d20+5)

(7) + 5 = 12

Damage - (1d10)

(1) = 1

Feb 14, 2018 5:09 pm
Alex's fire attack strikes a glancing blow, doing 1 point of damage.
Feb 14, 2018 5:15 pm
As Dazzle unleashes an insult at the zombie, he laces his words with subtle enchantments that bruise its ego even from beyond the grave. You reek of the most villainous smell that ever offended nostril! Back into the ground with you!
OOC:
The zombie must succeed on a DC 14 Wisdom saving throw or take 1d4 psychic damage and have disadvantage on the next attack roll it makes before the end of its next turn.

Rolls

Vicious Mockery: psychic damage - (1d4)

(4) = 4

Feb 14, 2018 5:25 pm
The zombie seems to take the mockery in stride. Internally, however... he shrugs off the hurt feelings.

Rolls

Wisdom save - (1d20+0)

(16) = 16
