Chapter 1 - Red Larch

Feb 14, 2018 5:25 pm
Balak rushes up to the zombie (dropping his javelin while rushing and grabbing the warhammer off his back), screaming a battlecry that seems to make the dwarf bigger on the battlefield, and swings his warhammer at the chest of the zombie.

Rolls

Attack zombie with the warhammer - (1d20+6)

(10) + 6 = 16

Damage with the warhammer - (1d8+6)

(6) + 6 = 12

Feb 14, 2018 5:42 pm
Balak's warhammer strikes hard, fueled by rage.

Cumulative damage so far: 17
Feb 14, 2018 9:09 pm
Sorgrimm places his shield on his back then charges forward swinging his Hammer in an upward two-handed motion towards the zombie.
OOC:
If possible I'd like to pull my shield back in front after my attack concludes.

Rolls

Warhammer - two handed attack/Damage - (1d20+4, 1d10+2)

1d20+4 : (5) + 4 = 9

1d10+2 : (1) + 2 = 3

Feb 14, 2018 9:59 pm
Walter draws out his rapier and stabs at the zombie, using his companions distraction to try to find an opening.
OOC:
Sorgrimm, technically you can't doff then don a shield in one turn. Not sure how DM wants to rule it, though.

Rolls

Rapier attack - (1d20+5)

(4) + 5 = 9

Rapier damage - (1d8, 1d6+3)

1d8 : (1) = 1

1d6+3 : (2) + 3 = 5

Sorgrimm and Walter both find their blows landing. The creature crumples to the ground.
OOC:
Stowing the shield and then drawing it again is too much for one round. Doesnt matter in this case.
With the foe defeated, you can see farther up the dim tunnel.

Rolls

Zombie fortitude vs 10 - (1d20+3)

(5) + 3 = 8

Feb 15, 2018 5:51 am
"You know, Sorgrimm... maybe I should handle the scouting preparation this time around. I'll make this quick." Clutching the symbol of Lliira in my right fist, I smile and move toward the entrance to the next tunnel.

Balak jogs over to his dropped javelin, replaces the hammer into its place on his back, picks up the javelin and then walks to the head of the party with Xella, looking for any signs of traps, creatures, etc.

Rolls

Perception - (1d20+4)

(5) + 4 = 9

Feb 15, 2018 12:49 pm
OOC:
Can we tell how recently dead the zombie is? Iean, before we re-killed it.
Feb 15, 2018 2:24 pm
Xella's senses dont pick up anything other than a tingle.

Balak also doesn't notice anything amiss.

Walter thinks the zombie is what fresh, perhaps less than a month.

Walter keeps his rapier in one hand and the torch in his off-hand. That fellow hasn't been dead for very long. We should keep our eyes wide open. He follows behind Xella and Balak, into the next chamber.

OOC:
Would it be fine for my character to roll investigation on the zombie to get a better idea? Being a necromancer, he wouldn't take others advice on the state of the dead.

OOC:
I always say: Roll first, ask later. Especially in a PBP format. Its better to have the roll there than to wait for an answer and then roll and then wait for a response to the roll. If the DM says no, then the roll gets ignored and you move on.
Feb 15, 2018 3:06 pm
OOC:
Fair enough
Disregarding Walter, I look closer at the zombie.

Rolls

investigation - (1d20+5)

(10) + 5 = 15

Feb 15, 2018 3:31 pm
Can never be too careful Xella, that is true. The dwarf continues forward behind Xella. Eyes peeled.

Rolls

Perception - (1d20+5)

(9) + 5 = 14

"It’s clear for now, but keep a lookout. There may be creatures other than undead around here."

Alyx's examination concludes that the zombie is about 6 weeks dead, although it looks 'fresher' - the rate of rot slows after reanimation.

Chamber L2

A round, high-ceilinged cave opens here. It has two narrow exits, one leading north and the other south. A flat boulder sits in the center of the cave. It’s about six feet across, eight feet long, and three feet high. Dark stains color its top.

As Xella and Sorgrimm enter, they hear from above the sounds of rocks jostling... (Xella and Sorgrimm, DC 12 Dexterity saves please.)

Rolls

Bludgeoning damage from falling rocks - (2d6)

(36) = 9

Feb 15, 2018 3:45 pm
I look over the zombie.6 weeks. That's how long it's been dead. Understandably, those less versed in the study of reanimation might think it's less due to the slow of rot due to magic. I smirk and break off a few fingers to store in my pouch.

Sorgrimm? Not Balak?
