The chest contains ruined cloth and the sodden remains of a book, but Balak notices that the bottom is several inches higher than the chest should be deep.

Bigdogg1990 says:
I search the coffin.
The coffin contains only the skeleton dressed in a rusted breastplate. There appears to be no jewelry or other funerary items that have survived the test of time.

Balak tosses the cloth and book remains to Dazzle, and then rips out the bottom of the chest.

Within is a gold chain and locket with a portrait of a lovely half-elf female etched in profile on the inside (100 gp) and two rings of braided silver and electrum (25 gp each).

Balak inspects the portrait. Huh, pretty lady.

He gathers the items and says, You all can fight for this thing, he tosses the chain at Xella, thinking that she may be the most impartial of the group, but I wanna keep these rings, though.

Balak begins braiding the rings into his beard.

OOC:
wow that was fast.
Sorgrimm grumbles as Balak pushes him aside to get to the chest. Easy comrade, don’t be in such a rush. Be careful of those rings if you don’t know what they are. Allow me to at least see if they are of an arcane nature.

If Balak hands me the rings I will take a few minutes to cast detect magic in the rings.

Balak has no reason to mistrust his dwarven brother. Okay, you can have the silver one, also. I want the one made from electrum. He pulls the rings out of his beard for Sorgrimm to observe.
Apr 25, 2018 1:24 am
Sorgrimm detects no magic, aside from Dazzle's wit.
Apr 25, 2018 1:42 am
Here you are, they don’t appear to have any magical properties. Though I think we should come to some agreement in regards to finding "loot". I am not greedy but if we are to work together as we have been then I think their should be a fair distribution of the spoils that are found. Everyone here has proven themselves valuable, except maybe this new lass. Sorgrimm hands Balak the rings back as he addresses the group. He then walks over to the coffin to investigate the armor on the skeleton while his detect magic aura remains.

OOC:
I'll start a party treasure thread. I suspect the loot from Lance Rock remains undivided as well.
Apr 25, 2018 4:54 am
Thank you, Brother. You can have the silver one if you’d like. I’d estimate them both at equal value, based on the craftsmanship on the silver one. Balak hands the silver ring to Sorgrimm. ’sides, we dwarves oughta look out fer one’nother.

Balak braids the electrum ring into his beard.

Do any o’ ya know how to imbue magic into objects?
Apr 25, 2018 4:55 am
Also, should we rest here for the night, or head back to town?
Apr 25, 2018 1:32 pm
Hey now, Sorgrimm, everyone should get their fair share. You saw the way she blasted that thing!

Dazzle sniffs the air in response to Balak's query. He stares at the dwarf, incredulous. Why would we crash here when there are comfortable beds and warm company waiting for us back in Red Larch? Your sickness must be affecting your mind. I knew it would come to this. Follow me now, Balak, and we'll get you the care you so urgently need.
Apr 25, 2018 1:50 pm
Felicia smiles a bit at Dazzle's words. I appreciate the support, and I agree with Dazzle here, resting away from where that kind of vile wretchedness resides is certainly wise. However, it's not been so long that we've been gone from town, really. Imagine the reactions that they would have to you Dazzle, if you were to come back so soon after leaving, with naught but a few rings to show for it. Perhaps we can explore slightly more, but don't open coffins that we may stumble upon? Get a feel for the rest of this place. she offers, thinking back on the little that they've done so far.
OOC:
How long has actually passed since we left town? We fought 2 rounds or so against the ghost guy, and then less than a round against the sword. Maybe 20 minutes of other searching and door opening.
Apr 25, 2018 2:17 pm
Speaking as a necromancer, I will open whatever coffin I damn well please. Coffins tend to be where the most valuable things are hidden.
Apr 25, 2018 2:21 pm
It was a two to three hour journey, and you left at noon, so it would be mid to late afternoon.

Sorgrimm looks at Dazzle with some disdain now, "Yeah, yeah, I said maybe didnt I"
Apr 25, 2018 4:45 pm
Having fully explored the Haunted Tomb, is the consensus that you return to town?
Apr 26, 2018 12:56 am
While we travel, Balak, do you have any final wishes? What should we do with your remains? It's best not to leave these things to chance.
