Giving Kel a light smack to the back of the head Damien states, "Sure we could do that, i figure a couple of hours, if we're lucky, to gather the materials for making your shield. Then I figure an half hour to cover it in mud, then the rest of the night and the better part of tomorrow morning for it to dry. Ooooor, we can move down the river bed towards those buildings and pray one is empty. Then we can spend the rest of the night moving towards the keep. If you want to study that creature of death, that would be the best place to do it from and give yourself a better chance of survival in the process." Oraten’s bolt actually hits Bart but his armor manages to deflect the shot without doing any damage. Harold plucks off a couple more rats with his precise shot.

Bartholomew growls as the rats crawl over him and his supposed friends pepper him with missiles. With a grunt he swings his sword at a dense clump of the rat swarm.

Actaeon decides to not risk hitting Bart with an arrow, and decides to take evasive maneuvers from any rats that may decide to go after him.

Bartholomew is frustrated that there are so many rats that swinging his sword does not appear to deter their attacks. At least his well maintained armor is doing its job. Bless Bahamut. He swings his sword again.

The successive attacks from Oraten and Bartholomew have now started to significantly thin out the Rat swarm.

With Harolds arrow piercing several more rats the swarm disperses around Bartholomew and disappears in several directions.
