Actaeon, being in the back should probably focus on keeping watch, and remaining discreet, but he remains ignorant to his surroundings, and walks casually- his mind being focused on the past, and how he can use it to his advantage. However, as if by 2nd nature, his bow always remains at the ready to take out any signs of threats.

You make your way along the riverbed when you come across a pair of small folk attempting to hide along the riverbed. They see you as you approach as you spot them. One of them moves between you and the other.

"Please don't hurt us, we don't have anything, just leave us be I beg you. A male voice speaks out in the dim light. As you get closer you identify the speaker as a male halfling. He seems to be protecting a female behind him.

Bartholomew makes a show of sheathing his weapon before approaching the halfling. He raises his hands in a gesture of submission.

"You should fear no harm from us, Sah. We have been sent to round up any lost citizens. We need to escort you to the keep."
May 6, 2018 5:58 am
Harold walks up to the halfling, and whispers We need to be very sneaky right now! These cultists are dangerous. There is a secret tunnel that will lead you to the keep.

Harold, using whispers, describes where the tunnel is.

He then whispers, Be very careful and mindful of your surroundings, though. We don’t want the cultists discovering this secret tunnel. Please be careful!

As the halflings saw us quite easily, and Bartholomew and Oraten aren’t making any attempt to be sneaky, they may be a little perplexed by Harold’s comments. Furthermore Harold has just contradicted what Bartholomew said.

Bartholomew gives a side glance at the fighter. "Don’t worry about the cultists. I will escort you to the tunnel."

The halfling man's shoulders drop as he seems to relax. The woman peers out from behind him. You can now see that she is quite pregnant.

"Thank you for helping us. The woman smiles meekly.
May 6, 2018 7:25 pm
"Ma’am, we must get you to safety. If you are exhausted I can carry you if you like?"
May 6, 2018 8:33 pm
She grabs the hand of the male and says, "No. Thank you though."

The halfling man speaks again, "My name is Owen, this is my wife Toolia. We are happy to follow you."

Damien sighs as the Dragon-kin offers to escort and carry the woman, if need be. With a shake of his head he speaks to the Halfling in hushed whispers, "Sir, are you proficient in this?" Drawing one of the weapons he took from the previous batch of raiders, he hands it over to the Halfling gentleman, hilt first. Still continuing the conversation in hushed whispers, "What the dragon-kin offers is quite cavalier and if needed, we will surely assist. But these fine gentleman have been tasked with rescuing the townspeople, my cousin and I joined up with them and took on this task ourselves. For this to be successful, we must continue forward. Would you be able to protect your lady friend back to the tunnel? We have not encountered anything from there to here, so the path is relatively clear for you to pass." Damien continues to look around the area for any intruders while speaking to the Halfling. Still glancing around the area Damien speaks once again, "And yes Bartholomew," stressing the pronunciation of the Dragon-kin's name, "I realize I am sounding like an uncaring son of a goat."

Bartholomew wonders why such long speeches are required if time is of the essence. Ignoring Damien’s opinions Bartholomew focuses on what he perceives to be the mission and escorts the halflings to the tunnel. "Hurry, follow me. It isn’t far and I must return to find other survivors. Let’s go!"

The Paladin urges the halflings to follow him and heads to the tunnel.

Owen and Toolia follow the Paladin.

OK, so Bart is taking the halflings back...what is the rest of the party doing? Following or splitting?

Actaeon seizes the opportunity to enjoy the delightful Bart-Free moments of his evening. I'm going to keep moving.

Kel leans on his staff, witnessing this fine exchange. He watches and judges and longs for a good book. He sticks with Damien.

With a sigh of exasperation Damien just shakes his head and asks of anyone who's willing to answer, "Does this come natural to him? Or does he have to work to achieve those levels of obstinacy?" Damien turns and moves in the direction they were originally headed as a group. "Catch up when you get done holding hands with the halflings Bart. We're moving out to find other survivors."

See you later, SAH!

Harold mocks as the Dragonborn leaves with the halflings.
