Character Creation discussion

Sorry for putting this up so late after accepting you guys! This thread is going to be up a few days before anything else is put up. Ideally I want this to be a discussion towards creating characters. Hopefully you can use this time to get the books open that you need and to get your minds on creating a character that fits well in this game.

The Timeline I wanna go by is this

Creation Discussion: what this thread is for

Character Positing: Sometime towards the weekend or start of next week where the characters are posted in their entirety. Ill post pictures of completed character sheets from a fan made software for your reference too once they are done if I have the time.

Criminal Syndicate Ideas: This is where we will discuss ideas for your criminal syndicate. Im still working things out with this but ideally you guys will discuss a name and sigil/colors for your syndicate, a business they deal in (only 1 to start off with!), and a resource system and perk system that you guys will choose from to give your syndicate a unique feel and some resources to tap from for personal use.

Criminal Syndicate Finalizing/Game Finalizing: This is where everything will be set in stone ad finished of to start the game

Game Start: The game is ready to play!

Hopefully this wont take forever! Im hoping we can have this game going in full steam within a short period of time but want to make sure were all on the same page as we set things up.

So onwards to character discussion! Please remember these two very important facts as you discuss characters:

-Youre leading a criminal syndicate: Generally speaking robin hood esque is about as good of a character that will be allowed and even then it may end up clashing with other PC's. That being said, your character does not have to be full on evil too. Some people are just in it for their own personal gain. This leads us to fact 2

- The PC's all know each other previously. This is important. This doesnt mean you all need to come from the same line of work. Generally by this I want to emphasize that the game should start out on little to no player animosity. Where things go from there is where they go but initially there should not be many issues from that department.

With that being said, please use this to help get to know each other and discuss some ideas for what you want to play! New players introduce yourselves! Experienced players, please lend a hand and help these new guys learn the ropes throughout this and during the game, as I will be doing the same.

Hello everyone! I'm excited to go for a change of pace from my usual AoR campaigns. As far as my character goes, I've had it in mind to play a Skip Tracer ever since No Disintegrations came out. Possibly a Clone Wars vet, probably did a lot of odd jobs around Socorro tracking down debtors or stolen goods prior to our syndicate forming.
Mar 13, 2018 5:48 pm
Hello all, I have been looking for a EOTE game to pick up and am looking forward to it. I was thinking of playing a Colonist/Performer Elomin, need to get the details sorted out.

Edit: On second thought I think I'll probably go more towards Marauder Selonian, the concept seems to good to pass.

Quick note! Ive seen some people apply their characters so far. I wont be accepting characters until this weekend. Please take the time and post in here about your character idea if you have applied with one and see how they would know the other PC's. You may know some more than others thats fine but get an idea for how you got to know these other people

I had previously developed a Mon Calamari Smuggler on another site and would like to adapt it for use here. His people always seem to get enslaved by the Empire wherever they appear in the galaxy. Pretty soon it will be on their home world. Dagit holds out little hope for the rebel alliance. As far as he's concerned they can both wipe each other out and let the independent worlds decide their own fates. He wants to put himself and his associates in a prime position to benefit from that likelihood.

I have a few different character ideas in mind, do you guys think a doctor or a mechanic would fit well with the group so far?
Mar 14, 2018 3:22 am
A mechanic sounds more fitting to the scenario but I think just about anything would fit if the character had some medical skills. Perhaps someone who had served in a military unit as a field medic in addition to being an artillery or munitions expert. Or a surgeon who was practicing something like doctors without borders serving in a fringe world which came under attack by the empire or some rogue pirates or something like that. He would have been stranded there and would have had to develop his survival skills. Your imagination can run wild.
Mar 14, 2018 3:41 am
Could also be someone that deals in stolen medical products and also knows how to use them. The scope for many careers can be covered under a criminal like background
Mar 14, 2018 6:09 am
Both of your ideas can be very handy in a big party, go for what you want. My character will be more of a bodyguard type for when a deal happens to make sure everything goes smooth, plus when they might go south. Working out the details for backstory, currently have: self imposed exile after failing to save her den during a trip to Nar Shaddaa, fled the corellian system and ultimately finds themselves in Sorocco doing various bodyguard work. See's most of galactic culture as alien compared to her own, enjoys the rush of battle and various Holo-Series immensely.

For character creation are we going by the standard 500 starting credits? And can we take on the extra obligation for xp or money?

Sorry for the delay, my wife had a baby last night :)

Elistar has always been a drifter and a bit of a loner, but his desire to grow beyond his meager origins drives him into the fringes of society, looking for his fortune. He comes from a long line of Kel Dorian explorers and adventurers and has spent his years explorering the fringes of society and the wilds. While he is force sensitive he was fortunate to have been born in the outer rim and not identified by the Jedi Order before it fell. He attempts to hide as best he can while making his way in the galaxy.

So I only have an F & D book which is why I created a force sensitive character. But he is definitely not a glow stick waving Jedi. He seems to keep descending more into the criminal element due to trying to pay off his brother's gambling debts. Kel dors are supposed to be very family-oriented which is what drove him to seek riches in the seedier side of society. I'd love for Elistar to have made a bit of a partner out of one of the other founders from his experience in the Wilds helping to smuggle Goods into the planet.

It was in his early adulthood when Dagit learned some hard lessons about intragalactic politics. The Empire and the Rebel Alliance were in a wide ranging struggle. Dagit understood that the rebels had issues in the way that the empire treated subject races, almost as slaves. He also had issues with the way the alliance used any method they could to get back at the Empire. He wanted to find a way to make his way in life without having to deal with either side. Since he had no compunction about sticking it to either side so theft and smuggling were easy for him to accept. He used his skills to earn and save enough money to buy a small, used light freighter and started trading throughout the region.

With every successful trading mission Dagit was able to make purchases to upgrade his ship. One of those missions brought him to Soccoro. You will have to excuse me if I don't fully understand the history of the Star Wars universe. I just never really kept track of it, just enjoyed the movies. And what I've written above isn't necessarily the truth but it's just the way he sees it. If his ship is a problem that's easy to explain away. It could have been destroyed on a mission or he could have lost it to pirates or as a gambling debt. I do have it fully developed but what I had already worked up was for a level 8 character so we can start smaller if it becomes something that everyone (especially our GM) thinks is essential to our group.

But back to Dagit's story. He continued his business out of Socorro and kept upgrading his ship to make even easier to escape Imperial ships. After several months though the environment on Socorro got to be terribly dense in terms of smuggling. It was becoming too difficult to make a living as an individual. He realized that it might be better for him to enter into an arrangement with some other people he had met in the business. He put out feelers and found that there definitely was interest.

Spending her life protecting the Queen, that was her purpose. Moyk Dowente was good at it too, learning to fight and defend the den was something she did all throughout her childhood. Finally she became a fully fledged adult, constructing her glaive as a rite of passage and swearing her life to her duty.

Not long after reaching adulthood, the Queen wished to visit Nar Shaddaa to improve interplanetary trade relations between her den and any interested parties. Moyk was assigned as one of the personal bodyguards, an opportunity equally exciting and terrifying. The visit soon became a tragedy, an ambush was all that waited for them. Moyk lost her glaive, her family, and her Queen.

Knowing she could not face the rest of her den after such a failure, she decided to become an exile. Escaping to the outer rim Moyk spent her days in a strange galaxy far from home, taking on various protection jobs for all manner of employers. Most are wary of her almost black and white morality regarding deceit, but Moyk will perform work for almost anyone granted they are not actively hiding something. When a job goes south, she doesn't even mind; the rush of adrenaline during a firefight fills her with purpose.
Eventually she found herself on Sorocco, hearing rumors of excellent business opportunities for someone like her.

Despite her best efforts to move on Moyk craves having a family of any kind, desperately not wanting to be a lonesome drifter.

@Hyando I would like to team our characters up, I think they have some common ground of being outsiders and wanting companionship any way it comes The backstory would be pretty easy if your character is a smuggler type.
Mar 15, 2018 11:35 am
@Somebox I prefer unscrupulous shipping magnate ;)

Sounds great though.

After few runs in the wild, Elistar knew his days would definitely be numbered if he didn't have an extra set of eyes watching his back. Any credits he made wouldn't do his brother any good if he was too dead to bring it to him.

On his next stop in port he inquired for the right kind of additonal being. After a few drinks and an agreed upon time to set out, Hyando and Moyk have been running less than reputable cargo together ever since.

Xizen Rall fought for the CIS, a choice that had more to do with the limited options available to a poor Faleen than any political inclinations. Defeat in the Clone Wars rather limited the upward mobility of that choice, but he wasn't keen on casting his lot in the Black Sun either. Instead, he found his way to Socorro, where he carved out a place for himself as an independent operator: He didn't care who you were or what your business was, but if something (or someone) of yours was lost or stolen, he would track it down for a price.

It's been a decent gig, but he's stepped on a few toes sticking his nose in where it doesn't belong, and now operating on his own is getting a bit too dicey for comfort. He's decided to look up a few old contacts and see if they want to get organized...
Mar 15, 2018 6:55 pm
Sorry I’m so late to the party. I would love to be the muscle for this syndicate. I love the Enforcer spec. Let me know if that’s something you guys feel comfortable with.
Mar 15, 2018 7:05 pm
Enforcers are great. We have a melee specialist in Moyk, but I don't think we have anyone geared towards Coercion yet, and an Enforcer could make a great "bad cop" to Xizen's "good cop."
Mar 15, 2018 7:53 pm
Yeah, Elistar is a pilot / outdoors guy. Can't really take a beating. Another beefy guy couldn't really go amiss ;)
Mar 15, 2018 8:02 pm
For sure. I love the idea of being the muscle to Xizen’s face. It’s so fun for me. I’ve had it happen once before in a game and the interplay between the endorcer skills and other socials are fun. Loom may be my favorite talent. Lol
Mar 15, 2018 8:10 pm
That sounds good to me, I will focus on discipline instead of coerce for my social skill in that case. Works thematically for Moyk.
Mar 15, 2018 10:09 pm
So Xizen = Leader / Face, Private Eye
Longhorn Beefy Muscle /Xizen's Guy
Moyk Melee fighter / Elistar's Partner
Elistar Survivalist Smuggler Pilot, pistoleer ;) and Moyk's Partner in crime (Literally)
Dagit Mon Cal Smuggler / Pilot and ship tinkerer

Sounds like a good crew. Are we missing any one?
Mar 15, 2018 11:17 pm
I think just Heretek and J.S are left to consider characters
Mar 16, 2018 3:44 am
Ras Bolo is a human mechanic who was forced out of a stable life and into the criminal underworld by circumstances beyond his control. There he managed to lose himself and, for now, has managed to scrape by through plying his mechanical talents. This eventually led to him signing on with the group, who at the very least seem to look out for eachother. Ras prefers not to talk about his old life, fearful that he won't be able to run forever. But luckily for him, in this part of the galaxy stories like his are a dime a dozen, and nobody's pried too much into his past... So far.
Mar 16, 2018 2:16 pm
Xizen = Leader / Face, Private Eye
Longhorn Beefy Muscle /Xizen's Guy
Moyk Melee fighter / Elistar's Partner
Elistar Survivalist Smuggler Pilot, pistoleer ;) and Moyk's Partner in crime (Literally)
Dagit Mon Cal Smuggler / Pilot and ship tinkerer
Ras Bolo human mechanic and all around tinkerer

I think we just need JS's character.

So we should be talking starting gear, syndicate stuff next right?

I like Dagits back story about the ship, so Even if it was "guild backed financing" I don't mind it being "his ship."

Should we have an additoonal ship as well? 7 pcs are tough to fit in 1 ship.

Should we have a second? Any speeders or planetary transport? What kind of things should we be dealing with? I was thinking smuggling weapons and banned or black market items. I'm not to keen on slave trade etc.

Our base of operations as well? I was thinking sonce we are small time starting, maybe a backroom in a popular cantina?
Mar 16, 2018 2:42 pm
Yeah for starting a syndicate your dealings will be into one market and it will be very small to start off. After characters are created we will talk more about the syndicate and assets you may have
Mar 16, 2018 3:06 pm
Just to clarify for the slow kid, we’ll do standard gear and then discuss shared resources from the syndicate.
Mar 16, 2018 4:49 pm
I wasn't expecting a team of 7 or more. The Star of Dac only has room for 6. Anything larger would be a lot more expensive. Dagit has a debt to repay to the shipbuilder/modifier and a favor to be repaid in lieu of interest on that debt. I will present the ship to our GM and see what he has to say about it. The Star does require a crew of three. Dagit is a qualified gunner and a novice pilot. I know we have at least one other pilot so a 2nd, smaller ship could work but it would either have to be towed by the Star or fly in tandem.

I'm having 2nd thoughts about Dagit being a Mon Calamari. The species attributes only allow a starting Cunning stat of 1D. I was originally thinking of 4D. If I can ever get the species pdf loaded I may have to look for another species.
Mar 17, 2018 3:20 am
I cut us down to 6 as I never got any word from the 7th person despite pming them. We will proceed as 6. Well also determine a ship later. At this point ill start taking characters
Mar 17, 2018 12:44 pm
Rock and roll! :)
Mar 17, 2018 4:44 pm
Now that I've been able to load the EotE pdf I'm finding a lot of differences with the game as I originally played it. I'm rethinking the entire background. I'm leaning strongly toward a Bothan smuggler with the pilot specialization. He would be strong as an interstellar pilot with astrogation skills but not so adept at atmo piloting. As soon as I can put all that together in a historical perspective and plug in the numbers I will submit the character.
Mar 17, 2018 5:51 pm
@aws5000 I'm using ogg's character generator if you want a copy of my sheet with that format.
Mar 17, 2018 9:18 pm
@somebox I usually use that to make a copy for everyones character once all have been submitted. More than welcome to use it and when you do post it, make a separate thread for your character in the subforum characters
Mar 17, 2018 9:25 pm
Also for everyone when you submit your character please also post in the characters subforum making a thread for your PC. In it, if you would please also list out what you spent XP on.

ALSO

Starting Credits will be 500+D100.

Please note if youre taking on extra obligation for extra credits/xp.
Mar 17, 2018 11:51 pm
Rolling for starting credits.

So thats 558 credits? or 1080? (sorry for the noobish question)
Last edited March 17, 2018 11:52 pm

Rolls

Starting Credits - (1d100)

(58) = 58

Mar 18, 2018 2:30 am
558 and no worries don't be sorry!
Mar 18, 2018 4:21 pm
I'm having some difficulty creating a good reason for Dagit to be on Socorro and being involved with the underworld. He would have gained his piloting skills from a freight transfer company plying the galactic fringe but the transition seems a little unsatisfactory. This leads me into concerns about obligation. If he had his own ship, I would use debt and favor as obligations but that is apparently not available. His Bothan parents were killed by Imperial bounty hunters so perhaps vengeance would be a good obligation but that seems to beg for GM approval.

Once I figure out the transition issue stated above and I fill out his gear with a d100 roll (appended) I will be able to submit.

Rolls

gear - (1d100)

(29) = 29

Mar 19, 2018 1:05 am
Aldrusian says:

Perhaps he unwittingly took a hot shipment from a crime boss and landed in trouble? He might've gotten flagged by the Imperials as a smuggler, causing the freight company to drop him and making it hard to get legitimate contracts, or some problem with the shipment put him in hot water with the crime boss or a rival crime boss?
Mar 19, 2018 1:25 am
Perhaps you had a ship on credit or was loaning it and in the course of business lost it or it got destroyed and now people are coming and looking for repayment. Theres many ways you can stretch it
Mar 19, 2018 2:38 am
OK. I came up with a hook. I just hope the vengeance angle works for everyone. I've completed the character and it should be available to load into the other subforum. I'm not sure how complete it is or if something is missing. Please let me know if you find any errors or omissions.
Mar 19, 2018 9:31 am
Sorry I haven't submitted my sheet yet, this weekend's been nuts. I'll have it finished by the end of today, all I need to do is spend starting EXP and do my gear.
Last edited March 19, 2018 9:32 am

Rolls

Starting money - (1d100+500)

(78) + 500 = 578

Mar 19, 2018 4:04 pm
No worries! Ive been pretty busy myself so I havent had time to take a look at everyones sheets and approve them
Mar 20, 2018 1:22 am
Also if you need help let me know! Character sheets on here should be pretty easy to follow along with but if you need help submitting them just ask!
Mar 20, 2018 3:24 am
I had a question about the dice. I've never seen or even heard of the kind of dice described in the rules, the strange symbols. Will we be rolling those dice or will you take care of all of that?
Mar 20, 2018 3:30 am
Gamersplane's forum supports the dice. When you check the roll dice function click where it says "Basic" and switch it to "Star Wars FFG"

Rolls

Then just click the color dice you need as many times as you need

3 Success, 1 Advantage, 1 Failure, 4 Threat, 1 Black Force Point

Total: 2 Success, 3 Threat

Mar 20, 2018 3:29 pm
I assume you will tell us what color to roll and how many and then interpret the results. I can see where 1 failure cancels out 1 success and where one advantage cancels out 1 threat in the example above but I don't know what the black force point does. It looks a little like rock, paper, scissors, lizard, spock.
Mar 20, 2018 4:12 pm
Force points are for force sensitives to use. Theres also a pool of these force points at the beginning of the session. You can flip over a white force point to a black one to boost a roll or to influence certain things and the gm can flip over a black force point to a white one to impose a disadvantage on rolls as well as introduce certain unforeseen difficulties. and yeah I will tell you what to roll dificulty wise (purple, red dice) but when your character sheets finished youll be able to figure out what positive dice you need in time once you learn the system a little. Ill help you out with that as we go along
Mar 21, 2018 4:07 pm
Sorry about the delay on my character. I’ve got the idea but work has been absolutely nuts (I work two jobs so PBP is my jam). I should have it done ASAP, hopefully by Thursday or Friday.

Also my rolls definitely aren’t adding to my post. Anyone willing to help the slow kid figure this out?

Sounds good to me, Welcome!
Mar 28, 2018 8:26 pm
Wec'eris'oaqhoi (Eris for short) is now submitted. Background for her is as follows:

Eris is a lost soul, she was found as a child in the wreckage of an unknown type of vessel close to the Unknown Regions. Not knowing her race or people she was placed into an Imperial orphanage and was quickly lost in the system. Being the only person of her kind she quickly learned to fend for herself, the other children in the system sticking together by race.
Her natural talents with computers went largely unnoticed by the facility administrators as they were primarily focused on the wellbeing of the human children coming through, her talent in this area meant she could work the system in her benefit and soon found the information she could find on the others in the facility came in useful to get people to do what she wanted but other than this she had very little interaction with anyone else during these years.
Life soon settled into a comfortable routine. Being so far beneath the notice of anyone else she was able to use her slicing skills to slip out of the facility into the nearby city and she would do so often, always finding a way to steal a bit of food and locate an out of the way public holoterminal that she could jack into. Over time she found certain hidden areas of the public holonet that would contain information and news that were not in the public broadcast s, information about Imperial atrocities and attacks on planets. Finding this fascinating she began to dig deeper and deeper into hidden networks until one day she dug too deep into some Imperial research records.
Tagged and with a warrant out for her arrest she turned to a member of a local criminal syndicate to try and get smuggled off world. In the meeting she shocked him with the amount of information she had gleaned about him from various networks and also her quite blunt demeanor - she made him an offer, get her off planet and as far away from this region of space and she would give him a data file with info on a number of his enemies in addition to several highly placed Imperial personnel within the sector. Seeing the value of having this information he agreed and arranged passage for Eris. She's spent the last few years working for one shady figure or another finding herself increasingly under the thumb of the syndicate, a situation she is now looking to extricate herself from…..

Hope that works as a good fit - I took an extra 5 obligation (for XP) putting her at 10 in total (assuming we're starting at 5 for the group size)
Mar 31, 2018 9:19 pm
I think ww just need Mcneils character thread and then we're in business! ;)
Apr 2, 2018 10:19 pm

I'm sorry to hear that, I'm going to give it another couple of days, and I may bow out my self, I really hope we can get everything started back up ! :)
