Game: Meese, oh my!

The captain stares wide-eyed at the child in Wendealynn's arms "Aye, as far as I know it is only those who be in me boat. Don't see how a babe would get here by itself; maybe in de panic, it got left behind."

The captain takes up the meese in his hand and nods to Bragg "Around? 'Bout an hour or half; quicker iff'n thee winds bless us and ye don't mind about thee finer details; slower iff'n thee winds go stagnent and ye be lookin for lil' things."

The captain's face turns to a soured scowl "Iff'n ye be lookin' fer rum gremlin's, ye'd have a betta chance findin' one with ye eyes closed. I doubt ye'll find any sort of information on where it came from around thee island; they can swim like a damn fish and stay below just about as long. Ye have de sung respect of an old sailor, and the unsung respect of many other, for removin' one of those menaces." He holds the injured meese close to his chest, scratching it's head gently; a pretty humorous sight, seeing this large, gruff looking half-orc so gingerly handing the meese.

"Captain, are these rum gremlinss the problem we are here to fix? You sseem to know about them. Where do they like to hide? How intelligent are they? The one we killed seemd to have some gear, like it wasn’t a beasst." As she askes her questions, Sirraah absentmindedly begins to tickle the baby with one of her claws.
Jun 6, 2018 1:28 am
"They be a definite problem but I've never heard of them suckin' the life from their prey... They make their lairs below docks and thee likes, so this one bein' solitary on an island is quite strange. They delight in the chaos they make so there has to be somethin' at play here..." Caespen scratches at his beard then rubs the back of his neck "Iff'n you ask a green sailor, they'll say they be beyond stupid, simply out of spite; truth is though, they be quite clever. Clever enough to have somethin' at play...but what be the bigger picture?"
Jun 6, 2018 1:55 pm
Solitary is strange you say? Do they typically hive, like bees? Or are they more of a burrowing group, like rabbits? OOOH, are they familial? Does anyone know, can anyone be close enough to them and feel sober enough to actually study them? Kithri says, piping up now that something seems to be of interest to her. Her charcoal stick moves furiously over the notebook, recording everything she can about the rum gremlins.
Jun 7, 2018 12:49 am
"Aye, strange indeed. Wouldn't say a hive; thee largest group recorded was seven, typically they run around three to four. Don't know 'bout their family ties, can't say I care too much eiter; they're all thee same to me—vermin." He pauses a moment to make sure the injured meese is comfortable before continuing "Not many people choose to study them; for many reasons I assume. One; this'n be for the lucky ones, it's kinda hard to write when yer tossed off yer shitter. Two; hard to think about iff'n they keep it all in thee family while yer busy drowning to death, drunk off yer shitter. Three; they be about as interesting as rat droppin's on the bottom of yer shoe."

Bragg motions to the little meese that the Captain is holding, Please let me know how he fares I am a little impartial to him
Bragg takes his morning star and hits it against his shield stating
I am about ready to smash some of these little boozing bastards

"Well, I think we need to leave the infant here with the captain then and continue searching the island to see if more of these creatures are around. Maybe we start heading the other direction or we can split up to cover more ground. Thoughts?

"If these are what have been killing the meese, why hass it been such a mystery? These sseem to be known though I have never encountered them."
Jun 11, 2018 3:02 pm
Bragg nods at Sirraah's comment, I too agree, but that is not going to resolve the problem. Let's go the other direction as Bari suggested, but I don't believe splitting up is the best idea
Bragg walks off the boat ready to head in the other direction.

Sirraah readies her crossbow, and stands with Bragg. She says loudly, Now iss not the time for napss!
Jun 12, 2018 11:58 pm
Bari nods and once again attempts to disappear into the woods and scout ahead...this time in the opposite direction.

Unless someone shakes her awake Leaf will continue to doze, happily dreaming of rainbows and unicorns.

Bragg starts to loko impatient.... then abruptly goes aboard below deck and flips the hammock, Just wanting to see if what they say is true, do you land on your feet? He chuckles
Jun 15, 2018 8:47 pm
"The gremlin was eating the meese, yes," says Wendealynn, looking for a shaded spot to set up a small hammock for the infant. "Don't know if it sucked out the innards first, so we could be looking for something else besides. And, given how the babe was found far ashore, seems like it was dropped off rather than washed in with the tide, and this gremlin don't seem the type to be a nanny."

As Bragg shifts the sleeping Leaf, Wendealynn huffs, "Let 'er rest. If'n she wakes, she can help the cap'n or watch the kid." She finishes her makeshift cradle inside the cabin and returns to the deck.

"Hope ya don't mind the extra passenger,"
she says to Caespen. "I can't see how it'd have come from one-a yer charters, unless you and Ovlet have a habit of not rememb'ring those ya ferry."
Jun 16, 2018 12:44 am
Leaf falls flat on her face on the deck. "Ow! What the-? Is it dinner time already?"

Bragg let's out a hearty laugh, looks like I just proved that wrong. Leaf let's get going, and perhaps we'll get us some dinner on shore

Kithri quickly stuffs her notes back into her pack before scrambling off after Bragg and company. I am certainly intrigued! Perhaps with enough documentation about their cultures and habits, we could have a handbook that could help other travelers! she says excitedly as she hurries to catch up.

"Alright, alright." Leaf says, stifling a yawn.
OOC:
Am I still drunk?

OOC:
No, I believe you all slept it off.

Update: I've been meaning to put something up on the absence boards but haven't had much time, as if that hasn't been obvious. I don't plan on ending this game but there will be times where I'm too tired to think and put a solid thought together; for example, tonight I need to do a three person shift, alone, with the intention of no overtime.

I will get to continuing this story eventually, just wanted to let you all know first of why I've been a ghost. I want to thank everyone for their patience and the continued input to this game; I'm enjoying the in between with the characters. So to put those wheels in motion, to make things easier for me: Wendealynn, if you put down the baby, perception check.
