Character Creation

Follow these guidelines for making your characters!

1. Roll 3d6 and drop the lowest for each Ability Score (so keep two of the dice | Min: 2, Average: 8.5, Max: 12)
2. At every level up, add one to any Ability Score
3. At every Ability Score Increase level for your class, take a feat rather than get the +2 to Ability Scores
4. You can re-roll one of your ability scores, but you MUST take the re-roll, even if it's worse!

Quick question, when taking the feat at the ASI level, do we also add one to any Ability Score?

Scores: 9, 7, 10, 8, 10, 9

1. Yes, that continues during even the ASI levels.
2. Those are some dang good Scores!

Let's see!

12, 12, 9, 9, 9, 5 (rerolling the 5, ended up with an 8)

Final: 12, 12, 9, 9, 9, 8

Hot damn!

3d6 - ( 4, 2, 5 ) = 11-2 = 9

3d6 - ( 3, 4, 5 ) = 12-3 = 9

3d6 - ( 3, 6, 6 ) = 15 - 3 = 12

3d6 - ( 2, 3, 2 ) = 7 - 2 = 5

3d6 - ( 6, 6, 1 ) = 13 - 1 = 12

3d6 - ( 3, 5, 4 ) = 12 - 3 = 9

Reroll for grins:
( 1, 5, 3 ) = 9 - 1 = 8

If we're going to start at level 0, I'd like to take the Warrior aspect. Something simple and straightforward.

At level 0, I think I'd like to start as an Adept. Something of the offspring of a sorcerer that didn't quite get his progrenitor's arcane abilities, but ended up with just a twinge of it.

Perhaps he just needs a situation dire enough to draw out his powers? ;)

Do racial bonuses come into play at level 0? I was thinking of being a Goliath fighter.

Absolutely! All racial benefits are available.

Do you guys like my outline for level 0 characters or should things be adjusted?

I figure experts will get two proficient skills on top of their background. Should they have some added combat utility?

And does 2 cantrips from one class sound fair at level 0?

I think it would be good to assume that you are all from the same area (Small village or town) and thus know one another, at least a little bit.

Being Level 0, the adventure is probably going to find you rather than the other way around!

Hmm. Perhaps we could be goliath siblings? I'm now thinking a goliath cleric or druid. Leaning a bit the opposite direction of the sorcerer kid and more the trainee shaman of the tribe. The ability to manifest a bit of natural magic marked him as a successor.

Either that, or a little gnome wizard's apprentice struck with a weird obsession with chilly magics.

Heh, honestly I went with goliath fighter because it's practically the simplest. I haven't made much effort in developing a complete character just yet.

Submitted my goliath warrior. Took the Outlander background, which grants proficiency in Athletics and Survival. Since goliaths get Athletics as a bonus, I was thinking of substituting it with Animal Handling as it seems to fit being a tribal nomad.

I assumed with a d8 we start with the maximum of 8 hit points. The only thing I didn't add were his armor and weapon proficiencies, since those weren't yet detailed at the time of this post.

Can I put these stats in any order, or do they stay in the order that I rolled them?

@CancerMan: Yes, you will start with max HP at level 0

@lenpelletier: You can put them in any order you'd like them to be in

Submitted Englefeldt Hartman, trainee wizard. Always a smart young man, Englefeldt pestered the doddering old gnome wizard to teach him magic stuff. He has managed to learn how to clean stuff magically (prestidigitation) and a dark little trick he found in his master's books: how to surround someone with an icy hand (chill touch). He spends most of his time reading books, dusting shelves, and generally being Horatio Bluebottle's "reach that down for me" guy (took the Sage background). Made him a human, because why not. Easy enough to fit in just about anywhere.

Looking to go ranger eventually. Warrior is probably the best base for that. I'm thinking of making a young Ghostwise Halfling (SCAG) warrior that has left its tribe on a quest of some kind.

Stats after racial bonuses would be:

Str: 6
Dex: 12
Con: 10
Int: 8,
Wis: 12
Cha: 9

Background would likely be outlander, although it would be nice to differentiate from CM's character a bit. Something nature-themed. Maybe Uthgardt Barbarian background from SCAG, but reflavoured for Ghostwise Halfling clan.
