Oma Salie sighs, mumbling something about back in the day when people were competent. Yes, wijsneus, just get everyone who is a user of magic with any knowledge, from the fort and the camp outside, in one room for us, that would be lovely. Now, while you deal with that and showing the others where to go and who to meet I'll be here drinking some more tea. Also, while you're dealing with everything, we might need rooms to stay in and a place for the horses. Perhaps you could get some others to help you?
She turns to Rolana and Fah'lin. I'll be sure to also ask if any of the people assembled knows anything interesting about the pyramid. I assume we would've heard if they had, but you never know, can't hurt to ask.

Oma then takes out her portable hole, puts it on the ground and climbs in, rummaging around, clearly under the impression it's going to be a while before things get handled. Come birdie, let's find you some berries while we wait!

Justin seems visibly relieved to have been relieved of command. It's almost as if a great weight has been lifted off of his shoulders. He makes a gesture and a couple of pages rush up to him. Please summon, the father, the steward and the captain of the guards. Have them meet us on the southern battlements.

The messengers rush off and then Justin address you all.
Rooms have been prepared for you but it is still early in the day. If you like then you could retire to them but if not, then you could follow me and I'll show you this mysterious mountain of ours. He leads those who wish to see the mountain past the courtyard and into the fort propper. You pass by the great hall and take a set of stairs to the battlements. Then, you walk around the battlements until you get to the southernmost point. He points off into the distance. You can see a great big mountain looming in the distance. It wasn't there before. You are too far away to tell much about it other than its size which is obviously huge.

We noticed the ground vibrating yesterday, then after we woke up this morning there it was. We can't say that we've noticed anything different other than it's appearance. Do you have any idea where it came from or what might have caused it?

OOC:
Does anyone wish to interact with the Commander?

Rolana squints at the mountain. I'd like to get a closer look - as close as our magic users deem to be prudent. Does the mountain appear to be made of any... unusual material? A black crystalline material, for example?

Aetoris looks out at the mountain, shaking his head a bit. He pulls out his custom goggles, that allow him fine detailed sight, and slips them over his head, giving a look out at the mountain, seeing what he can spot. Let's see what, if anything, I can make out from here Justin. At least until the guard captain arrives.
OOC:
In conditions of clear visibility, you can make out details of even extremely distant creatures and objects as small as 2 feet across. is how the Eyes of the Eagle read. Trying to see what I can spot on the mountain from here.

Tinwë tags along with the others as the walk Fort Naleth's battlements, uncomfortably aware of the raven on her shoulder. She glances at it out of the corner of her eye. That creeper better get here soon. Whatever that mountain is, we're going to need all the help we can get.

She sidles up next to Fah'lin. "So... how is it going with the Champion? You saw how he wrangled those horses. I thought your eyes would pop out of your head! Maybe you can ask Aetoris for those goggles of his next time Kuz takes a bath." Tinwë starts to snicker, but then catches herself. "Come to think of it, you may have to wait a while for that. I'm not sure when he bathed last..."

[ +- ] Aetoris
May 22, 2018 2:54 pm
Aetoris closes his eyes and pushes the lenses up on top of his head. Well that's interesting. It looks like wood, but is slick and smooth. Unnaturally so. Doesn't appear to have any weird outjuts or outcroppings. There is a white stone castle near the very peak of it, and most disturbingly, a massive black crystal like the one Oma had been experimenting with floats over top it. I have a suspicion that's where the large anti-magic radius is coming from. Assaulting the summit, if that's the case, will be nigh on impossible magically. he says, turning to the rest of the assembled folks.
May 22, 2018 3:45 pm
Kuz smiles to Aetoris, "Then if magic travel no work, we go by foot. Maybe find lost patrols on the way." Turning himself towards the highest ranking local around, "You know how many not come back ?"
May 23, 2018 12:43 am
Commander Justin looks up at the massive half-orc and swallows. The King forbade us from sending any further patrols after the knights failed to come back. We were under strict orders to fortify Fort Naleth, and await reinforcements.
May 23, 2018 1:36 am
"So only knights gone ? Less people dead. King make good decision." Looking Commander Justin in the eyes and speaking slowly, to make sure he understands no lie will be tolerated..."You did follow King orders, yes ?..."
OOC:
I don't know if they are needed or not so I will roll them anyway, feel free to take or ignore any of those rolls.

Rolls

Intimidation - (1d20+7)

(19) + 7 = 26

Insight - (1d20+1)

(4) + 1 = 5

Under her breath, Fah'lin mutters, "He forbade you to send patrols. He ordered us to figure it out and now we are in charge."

Uttering her spell Fah'lin tries to conjure a puff of blue smoke with prestidigitation to test the anti-magic radius.
May 23, 2018 2:21 am
Your magic seems to be working fine here.
May 23, 2018 2:32 am
"I'm prepared to scout it invisibly."
May 23, 2018 2:37 am
OOC:
@Fah'lin: The King hasn't forbidden you from doing anything. Just the Commander of Fort Naleth. You are free to do whatever you wish. You have full operational command of the Fort.
May 23, 2018 3:34 pm
A raven appears on Tinwë's shoulder, it's eyes slightly clouded over "I can accompany in this scouting trip. A second eye will be worthwhile; a visible, expendable trigger to the anti-magic field, invaluable. I can fly fifteen to twenty feet in front of you, if we run into the range, you will have ample time to plan accordingly and keep your invisibility going."
May 24, 2018 1:54 am
After about ten minutes or so the messenger arrives and announces the arrival of the men you summoned.

This is the Steward Razghul he says and a wizened old half-orc bows deeply, This is Father Hammond and his clerics of Pelor, and this is Guor Thar a half-elf of indeterminable age and a hulking goliath each bow in turn.

My Lords, how might we be of service? Razghul asks respectfully.
OOC:
If you are looking for things to do you could launch a scouting party or scout yourselves, inspect the fort's defences, inspect the camp or simply retire to your rooms.
May 24, 2018 5:23 am
Looking to Aetoris, Rolana says, If the acting commander isn't planning to take a party out to inspect the structure immediately, I'd like to have a quick tour of the fort, on His Majesty's behalf, to ensure that all possible precautions are in place. I also wouldn't mind a brief chance to freshen up before setting out again.
May 24, 2018 3:57 pm
Oma looks at the people hurrying past, disappearing in the Sam direction as Justin lead the rest of the gang and smiles, knowing they won't find the person they're supposed to meet there. She sits in the sun, a bit away from the bird*, sipping from her tea and eating a few of the berries she found for Pyrrha and herself. They'll be back...
OOC:
*only if Pyrrha is still there, or would she have gone to a room to change back to her normal form so we can hand over the crystal, or at least show it to the assembled people? I know she wants to stay incognito, but things just won't work without that crystal being physically there...
May 24, 2018 5:48 pm
I think a tour of the fort, along with Guor Thar here to ensure protections are in place is wise. Sola Kraen, please see to that. Father Hammond and Steward Razghul, one of our company is back where we entered the fort hunting for some berries inside of a large portable hole she has, in order to feed the bird with her. Little old gnomish woman named Oma Salie. You should make all haste to go find her. You'll want a secure room where all of you, practitioners of the arcane and divine alike, can study the artifact she's dealing with. It's a bit of a shame you made the walk up here to begin with, she made her plan clear enough that she would be waiting elsewhere. Approach her with caution, she's got several hundred years of being set in her ways. For the love of whatever gods you pray to, if she offers you a tea, just take it and be thankful. Aetoris says, the cadence of command voice flowing back to him as easy as if he was still on active duty.

We will set out tomorrow, at the earliest, to continue our investigations. Justin, please assist Sola Kraen with whatever she needs. I may be in command, but you are known here. Kuz, big man, head with them and make sure that you don't see any weaknesses that another of your - ah - stature would be able to exploit. Tinwë, if you and your raven friend there would like to scout now, I won't stop you, but perhaps it would be better after we figure out the full situation here at the fort that we reconvene and plan out how best to approach the scouting mission. We've shaved several days off our transit, so we can afford to take the time to not make mistakes.
