Oma smiles, but it's very forced. His name is Ryestro. Thank you. And I gave you my answer regarding sending this crystal away and that is final. I'm well aware this might be dangerous and that's all the more reason to gather all the insight we can get fast and firsthand. So since you don't have interest in finding out what the crystal does yourself I'll take some time now to connect with it again myself. Thank you all for your time and feel free to join me during my tests later, if you're as curious as I am. She nods to the steward, father and clerics and then finds herself a comfortable spot to sit and attune to the crystal again. Before she starts she waves at Pyrrha to come close, whispering at her. Perhaps you could do some snooping around the fort? I dont really trust that steward, could you follow him and find out what he's up to? I won't be upset if you don't want to, I just think it could be interesting and a great way to use that disguise of yours.

Commander Justin looks at Rolana. He'll be in his tent. Just look for the biggest one. He's sure to be in there. But if I may be so bold to suggest. You are in command here and you act with the authority of the King. You should make HIM come to YOU! Give me the word and I will have him summoned?
May 29, 2018 1:23 pm
By all means, send for him. I thought you might be hesitant to do so, given his rank.
Rolana/Sola takes Aetoris aside. I've never met his lordship personally, but by all accounts, he's a loyal subject, but a self-aggrandizing buffoon. His Majesty wouldn't put him in charge of organizing the royal pantry, much less an operation of this magnitude. But he could be an inconvenient annoyance if we embarrass him. I suggest we use a diplomatic approach initially.

Speaking to Commander Justin, "I go with guards, make sure he no make fuss. I only step in if needed." Turning to Rolana, "I'll thrak naj-ri kurrauz afar avhe ukcruff ro avhe neck um najor saib'av julderukavand najor iuk noav shal charge anymore. Jiak liwo noav avoleraave ij noble buffoon endangeraumn avhe kinguk bur afar makaumn ukavupid deciukionuk avo prove najor hauk avhe biggeukav balluk."
[ +- ] Orcish translation
"I'll bring him back by the scruff of the neck if he can't understand he is not in charge anymore. I will not tolerate a noble buffoon endangering the kings man by making stupid decisions to prove he has the biggest balls."

Aetoris follows along quietly, observing the checking of the fort with a smirk as Kuz pounds the wall.
Kuz, I appreciate it. And for what it's worth Justin, you are absolutely correct that he should be summoned. Here's the official stance: direct representation of the king in the personage of Aetoris Nailo has taken command of the fort and all denizens. I request his presence, humbly, to confer on the matter of his contributions to our security here. Kuz acts as an extension of that same authority. a dark smile crosses his face as he finishes and turns to Kuz. Don't hurt him too badly Kuz, make sure you aren't needed. If the man resists too heavily, I have a means of getting back to the king's side and back here in less than an hour. If he won't see reason, we'll take him to the king for verification. He grips his wrists behind his back.
I agree fully that we should trench along the outside. I knew of a magician once that was able to shift chunks of earth with the snap of her fingers. Could we stop by wherever Oma and your magical cadre are meeting? I'd be interested to see if any of them have a similar talent. According to Annalise, it was one of the first things she learned and she could repeat it ad nauseum without issue. Made trenching our command posts much faster.
Yes, I'm sure the king would just LOVE to know how this self-aggrandizing fool has positioned himself here.

If Lord Whatshisface gets too nasty, I'll find a way to teleport him back to the castle and then return using my cap. As for the magic users, looking for anyone with the "mold earth" cantrip, essentially. Whether it is our folks or his, figure best to start that way. May 29, 2018 2:52 pm
Seeing the raven vanish, Fah'lin halts her broom. She points to the humanoid heading their direction, then speaks out loud. "I can't do anything before they leave the zone, but I suggest we prepare to scoop whoever that is up and get them to safety. Depending on how fast that bigger thing is, we may need to fight as we run. Hopefully it can't fly."

Pyrrha gives the gnome a distinctly human sort of nod, and a poke with her paw. And with that, she slinks her way alongside the steward, making sure to stay out of sight, or when not possible, inconspicuous.
OOC:
Pyrrha doesn't have the mold earth cantrip, but she does have the Move Earth spell. She doesn't have it prepared though, and would need a long rest to do so.May 31, 2018 1:28 am
About two hours later you see a man dressed in armour more designed to look fabulous rather than serve in any defensive functional purpose join you in the great hall where you have set up your war room. There is a large table with a map of the surrounding countryside displayed along with the main routes to Southwatch, clealry labled and a square depicting the position of the new "mountain".
As he walks up, one of his aides rushes up and announces him: My Lord Aetoris, Nailo, representative of King Pious, by the Grace of Pelor 22nd King of Dia Monde, may I present Lord Aldebrand Byron, Duke of the Eastern Marches.
Lord Byron bows deeply and adresses Aetoris My Lod Nailo, your deeds are well known to us all. I'm certain that under your command we will swiftly defeat these foreign upstarts. When do we attack?
May 31, 2018 4:34 am
Tinwë glances at Fah'lin, her magical sight allowing her to detect her friend's invisible form. "I can make do without magic if need be. I have a feeling that person - whoever it is - needs help now. I'll be back in a moment. Hopefully." She drops gracefully to the ground and moves into the antimagic zone, quickly with an arrow drawn.

Welcome Lord Byron. We have yet to gather the necessary intelligence to attack. You've heard of my deeds because I heeded the advice of those with more field experience and I place a high amount of interest in knowing what I face before I decide on my course of action. Before we can make attack plans, we need to expend efforts to better fortify the position here. The fort proper is good, however the immediately outlying space is weak. For now, the best use of your troops will be to assist my lieutenant here in securing the outlying lands. Both with patrols and proper physical fortifications. We will be taking the next few days to gather the requisite intelligence. If you have a spymaster, I would speak to them directly, along with my associates here in the council. I trust King Pious can count on your assistance in this vital effort? he finishes, bowing his head in response to Lord Byron's deep bow.

Rolana/Sola watches Lord Byron carefully without appearing to. She knows well the ego of the average noble, and how much more inflated that ego tends to be when backed by a mediocre (or worse) intellect. But Lord Byron's eagerness to mount an attack against unspecified "foreigners" strikes her as a tad suspicious, and she's very interested in learning whether he is being used as someone else's pawn.
In the meantime, I'll include both a perception and an insight check for you to use as needed. Reliable Talent, roll under 10 becomes a 10 yada yada.

Not sure precisely what sort of checks are appropriate to this situation. Perception, perhaps, for this immediate scene - or maybe insight? - but I assume you'll want me to have her conduct additional investigation on these lines? Perception check - (1d20+6)
(20) + 6 = 26
Insight check - (1d20+6)
(11) + 6 = 17

@RolanaYou already know that he is stupid. His motivations may as well have been written on his face. He is ambitious and he is clearly tryig to use this invasion to climb the social ladder and increase his family's holdings. Pure, unfetted self interest guides his every actions. You sence that he has planned something but you're not entirely sure what that is.
Lord Byron adress Aetoris: My lord. The best defence is a good offence I always say. Also, I can hardly ask the knights and nobles I have gathered here to shovel dirt. Why don't you get the commoners here in the fort dig the trench while we take the measure of our enemy on the glorious field of battle?
Jun 1, 2018 11:29 am
@Fah'lin and Tinwe. Fah'lin takes off skirting where she approximates the border to be and hovers at the place where she thinks the creature will emerge from the anti-magic barrier.
Tinwe drops down to the ground and runs directly towards the creatures.

In game time this only takes you about a minute. What do you do?

@Ryestro: You receive a sending spell. Greetings, I am Male, a representative of the king's court. I have heard that you are looking to get to Fort Naleth quickly? Please let me know your exact position and I will come and meet you.
Jun 1, 2018 11:36 am
@Remus and Oma Salie: You see a large number of gaudy looking nobles march into the fort. They look more like parsde uniforms rather than actual combat gear. There is quite a large number of them and they seem to be moving towards the great hall.
What do you do?
Jun 1, 2018 12:23 pm
Lord Byron, if you will not order your men to do the necessary work here, then consider the order issued in the name of King Pious. No one is any better than anyone else when it comes to defense. If you insist on circumventing my orders, I will see to it that Pious knows of your belligerence and disobedience in the face of the enemy during wartime and I will see you stripped of title before being hung for treason. I strongly encourage you to band with us in this time of need. Offense in the face of an unknown enemy is a good way to end up dead with nothing to show for it. Aetoris says, still not rising from his seat. You pretend to learning you lack, sir, on the field of battle. I have waged campaigns as far back as when your great-great-grandfather was but a gleam in his mother's eye. You have acknowledged my command, now you will follow it. he finishes, voice level and cold.

Intimidation, minimum result of 16 because of Reliable Talent. Here's hopin..... Adding advantage in case it applies since he did acknowledge that Aetoris was in command and he has a reputation as a soldier. Ignore if you'd like!Rolls

1d20+6 : (14) + 6 = 20

I'm guessing my 15th level character can give an exact position better than I. I'll give him near exact; about 30-50 feet away then hide amongst the trees. Portent: 19+1= 20 stealth check.Jun 1, 2018 11:48 pm
