Exploration! Adventure! Excitement!

The day was everything but any of these. Hot, humid, and sticky, the exploration team that had landed a day ago had been drenched with sweat since the minute they walked off the transport as they were greeted with a forest of exceptionally green trees. The planet Nulander III on the far edge of Galactic Space was just the newest planet to fall under the thumb of the Empire. At least in theory if not actuality.

From reading reports on the planet (which are few and far between), the planet is inhabited by a few primitive locals. The planet is mostly forest with some plains areas dotted across the continents. The most striking feature is the fog that continually hangs near the top of the tall trees. The sky is rarely seen making the forest areas somewhat dim during the day and almost pitch black at night. No problem for Imperial technology but one would guess an aspect that has played a key role in the history of locals.

The quick structures set up by the expedition were arranged in somewhat of a square pattern around the main building/tent that housed the important officials of the exploration team. A few gun emplacements were set up at certain intervals around the semi-village although the amount of people in the expedition does not seem to warrant such security.

The goal of the expedition? Mostly unknown. Which makes an announcement from an Imperial officer asking all employees to assemble outside Captain Mikaels' tent a welcome break to the heavy humidity.
OOC:
Welcome to Fortune and Glory. Y'all are all part of this small exploration team. It's not big, maybe forty or so. The important people live inside the main tent/building while those who have the menial tasks and such are out in the building/tents that surround it. Kikli, and Zom have rooms (if you could call them that) inside the main building due to their knowledge. Tark, Rokar, and Kaiten have tents surrounding the main one. As noted, you've been summoned inside the main tent to hear what the commanding officer has to say.
Apr 22, 2018 11:14 pm
Perhaps command will deign to inform us lowly grunts the purpose of this expedition at long last, [sarcasm] the perpetually armored mechanic thought to himself as he made sure that his tool kit was firmly attached to his belt.

Stepping out of his shared tent, Tark made his way to the main command tent, fiddling with a piece of scrap to keep his hands busy.
Apr 23, 2018 1:13 am
Kikli is standing attentively in the front of the group due to his size, munching on a ration pack while considering the countless lifeforms here that are just waiting to be catalouged.
Apr 23, 2018 3:12 am
Feeling the presence of an as of yet unmet co-grunt, Tark turned to his left before looking down at the member of the odd looking species. He had never seen anything quite like it, though granted his experience was limited to other ganks and certain districts of Nar Shadaa.

"What are you, co-worker?" [confused curiosity] Tark asked, his voice more emotionless than a droid's and just as mechanical.
Apr 23, 2018 6:40 am
Turning towards the synthetic voice, Kikli's eyes go slightly wide in pleasant surprise as he dashes toward Tark and lets out a clearly rehearsed sentence. Kikli T'emm, Chadra-Fan Archaeologist at your service.

Kikli begins to smile and his speech becomes much more natural, his somewhat high pitched voice speaking at a quick rate. Are you a Gank? I never worked with one before, I figured it would be like with a droid, well perhaps that's an oversimplification, but there are similarities right?
Apr 23, 2018 11:58 pm
A grizzled Klatooinian strides up to the group. The way a pair of pistols hang from his belt, he looks more like he should be runnning from the Imperials, not working for them. He slips easily through the crowd until he reaches the front, overhearing a budding conversation. "Howdy mates. Rokarr M’Beg. Wonder what the bucket heads have cooked up for us on this backwater?"
Apr 25, 2018 2:55 am
A tall Duros with light blue skin approaches the rapidly growing group and waves toward Kikli. He smiles brightly as he addresses the group. Hello there! Haven't I seen you across the hall?

Zom continues immediately, but speaks in a slow, relaxed tone. Oh, sorry. The name's Zom. I'm one of the geologists they brought in. So does this mean we're finally heading out into the field?
Apr 25, 2018 5:11 am
Seeing the new faces, Kikli immediately turns his attention to their questions. Hello hello, I'm Kikli T'emm, Archaeologist. I haven't the slightest clue what they are planning, hope its something neat though.
Apr 25, 2018 5:42 pm
The day started like any other, a long, drawn-out dawn as pitch-black night slowly faded to monotonous grey day. The thick blanket of fog enveloping Nulander III seemed to make everything about the planet slow, sluggish, as if the very processes of nature couldn't quite be bothered to get out of bed. And nor, indeed, could a lot of the people in attendance.

Kaiten was aware of the purpose for her assignment to this mission. The ISB seemed to assume there was something in Csilla's atmosphere that gave every one of its inhabitants a fanatical urge to prostrate themselves before the nearest Imperial official, hence their assignment of the tenuously-aligned former-security officer as the apparent watchdog of the expedition. But awareness of that purpose didn't necessarily give her any more urge to carry it out. She wasn't an archaeologist, her mother had made it quite clear that any knowledge that didn't contribute to the security of the Hegemony was irrelevant, and as far as she could tell the scholars were not in fact secretly plotting violent insurrection. She'd had that pegged from day one.

Hence why most of what she'd been doing for the past few days was sleeping.

But this morning was different. Something was actually happening, the expedition's coordinator had called them in. When the alarm rang on her chrono she was up quickly, crossing to the hastily-constructed washblock to attempt to rinse off some of the filth of the muggy night, already aware a muggier day was to follow. She pulled on her jacket, cinched up her gun belt, and headed off to see what was what.

The inside of the prefab block serving as the 'command centre' of the enterprise was almost empty when she arrived, the persistent habit of arriving early forced in by her career leaving her stood around rather awkwardly. But soon others filtered in, beings of all shapes, sizes and descriptions, a confusing mix of individuals. She was hardly awkward in such settings, but as a relative newcomer, and like all Chiss something of an outsider in this context, she hovered on the edge of the idle chatter that filled the room until she noted one group that seemed to have coalesced on the grounds of being as unattached to any other as she was.

"Well I imagine if we're all here then they've got us doing something good," she said, addressing the plucky Chadra-Fan, and by extension his companions. "If they've got us all together just to announce a revised policy on washroom use I may have to stage a mutiny."
Apr 25, 2018 8:57 pm
The forty or so humanoids packed into the main tent building made the air even more humid and sticky. But all minds shifted from their own skins to the slick Imperial officer who came into the room. The red-haired man was Captain Mikaels and known in certain circles as the foremost mind in regards to excavation techniques in Imperial service. One could tell how sweaty he was but he did not seem to notice his own discomfort. He wiped his brow with a cloth, got up on a crate and looked the large group over. Those who looked carefully could see a sneer that either indicated loathing or irritation on his face.

"Alright, listen up. I'm sure you all are rearing to hear what the goals of this exploration team are. Well, my orders are to seek out a particular strand of Tibanna gas that we are told exists on this planet. There have been indications that the gas is much more powerful than the gas harvested closer to the Core. A small scientific team landed on this planet a few years ago and found it and reported it. Unfortunately, the natives were less than friendly and their expedition was kill off. Thankfully, they messaged their findings before they were killed and we have them. Which, to be honest, isn't much.

Our plan is to set up a permanent base here, set up excavations and mining facilities at particular points and scout the area to find places where the alleged Tibanna gas is. We are assisted in this by the Czerka Corporation's mining division, Mining and Industrial. Their representative is with us, Baroness Yural Orfell.

A older human female raised her hand in acknowledgement without looking up from her datapad. A Nautolan behind her smiled an exasperated smile as whispered something in her ear. She waved him off and continued staring at the datapad. But Captain Mikaels did not notice as he kept right on going.

"Lieutenant Vis and I have grouped everyone in teams. I won't no slacking and no shirking. Most of you are getting paid for doing this and those who aren't I can send to a worse place than the hellish heat of this planet. Lieutenant Vis will call out the names."

And with that, Mikaels finished. He looked over the crowd with the same sneer and left the main tent as quick as he could. A soft-spoken man stepped forward, recognized himself as Lieutenant Vis and rattled off names and positions. Two groups of mining position locators were called out, two groups to set up fortifications around the base were called, and one guard group were called before the scouts were announced.

"Scout group #2 consisting of Zom Belt, Kikli T'emm, Rokar M'Beg, Kaiten....uh...the Chiss, and Tark. Report to me after the roll is finished."
Apr 25, 2018 9:54 pm
Kaiten listened intently to the briefing as she received it. The Imp seemed like a standard officer for these types of details, the sort who was just competent enough to get an independent command, and just unpopular enough have been shifted out of his superior's sight the moment an opportunity arose. But the mission sounded interesting, if only because she had an undeniable interest in the effectiveness of blaster weapons. Working with Czerka would be unpleasant at best - she'd encountered their representatives a few times, and wondered if a noxious personality was part of the recruiting criteria - but it did at least bring the promise of paying well.

At the announcement of the groups, other beings in the room began intermingling in the hope of locating the rest of their team, but a brief moment's discussion was enough to establish that with some impressive serendipity her team had found its' way together of their own accord. The Captain's inability to understand her name amused her, but it was understandable: few Chiss found their way abroad, and their naming conventions were complex if one were feeling generous. So instead she hailed her fellows. "Well it's good to know they're giving us something worthwhile to do. I'm 'the Chiss'" she raised her hands, miming inverted commas with no small amount of sarcasm. "My name is Kaiten'airel'athor, but Kaiten is probably easier, or Kai. Better in a firefight if nothing else. Not that I imagine we'll be running into many of those."
Apr 25, 2018 10:07 pm
Rokarr chuckled the throaty cough that passed for a laugh among his species. "Better in a firefight? Now wouldn't that be a fine sight to see? I've always had a thing for blue." The gunslinger rested his hands on the paired pistols on his hip and flashed his sizeable canines in a devilish grin. "As to how many we're gonna see? I wouldn't be so sure. Sounds like the last expedition had its fair share of trouble, and I doubt it was as flashy as our Imperial monstrosity. Plus, ole Rokarr here has a knack for finding a gunfight in even the most unlikely places."
Apr 26, 2018 1:10 am
During the meeting Kikli places his full attention on the debriefing, particularly interested in this gas's use and allegedly deadly natives.

Responding to his teammates he says, I've been in a couple of firefights, quite thrilling once you feel the adrenaline! First time I shot someone was when half the crew on a voyage turned rogue, hope this expedition goes smoother, we lost alot of good data. While recounting his experience Kikli pulls out his datapad in an effort to see if he has any knowledge about the Natives.

Lars leans in toward the group, his face a mix of excitement and anxiety. Let's not forget, there could be any number of unknown dangers lurking in those jungles. Deadly creatures, sinkholes, carnivorous plants. I'll definitely be glad to have you more uh... experienced types to back us up.

He begins looking around to see what the other groups are doing. So we should probably report to that officer right?
Apr 26, 2018 10:57 pm
Lieutenant Vis looks up as the five members of Scout Team #2 come up. "Ah, right. Um, you five have orders to scout for a certain temple the previous expedition spoke about. Apparently, there was some indication of Tibanna gas coming from that temple. See if there actually is any gas coming from that "temple". If the temple even exists. We have approximate coordinates. And I mean approximate."

He looked down at his datapad. "We have two actual scouts, K...Kaiten." He stumbled as he said the name. "And Rokar M'Beg. Kikli T'emm and Zom Belt are to identify structures and potential gases. And, unfortunately, since we are somewhat lacking in armed personnel, the Captain thought it wise to relieve Tark of his mechanics duty temporarily and assign him to this mission as a guard of sorts." Lieutenant Vis smiled apologetically. "One has to keep in mind the possibility of belligerent natives."

The Lieutenant made a few more swipes on the datapad and then looked up. "Any questions?"

The lieutenant blinked, opened his mouth and shut it again. Then a light dawned in his face.

"Oh, yes. I apologize since I know you were hired on as a mechanic and expected that. The Captain has an interesting way of going about things." He smiled. "He would prefer to save his bodybags."
Apr 29, 2018 4:45 am
Kikli raises his hand for a second.

Will we have transportation? I'm not very proficient at gymnastics, oh and what properties does this gas have? Any color? Is it toxic to inhale? Perhaps explosive?
Apr 29, 2018 11:21 pm
"Fortunately, or unfortunately for you, the base here was chosen for its proximity to certain amounts of gases and native structures. The Captain thought it wise to issue the speeders to the other scout group which is travelling a greater distance in search of a native village. Your destination, from out intel, should only be about a days journey on foot."

The lieutenant swiped up on his datapad. "Apparently, the gas in question is safe to inhale for a short amount of time. If breathed for longer than five or ten minutes, it can induce headaches, severe migraines and hallucinations. At least, according to small scientific expedition before us. The color was bluish-yellowish from what the data says."
Apr 30, 2018 2:45 pm
Rokarr almost seems bored by the whole conversation. "Temple, gas, profit. Got it." He draws the pistols at his side, twirling them before holding them easily in a ready stance. "Which way boss? I'll take point."
Apr 30, 2018 4:33 pm
The Lieutenant takes Kikli's datapad and plugs in a few numbers. "There. That should give you an approximate pinpoint of where this temple is. Good luck!" He then directs the group to a sergeant who kits the group out with rations and basic equipment for what the sergeant called a "hike".

With rations in tow, the scouting group heads out into the damp and muggy forest. The ground was normally even and the underbrush did not pose too much of an obstacle. However, the steaming humidity of the area felt like a warm blanket that had over-stayed its welcome. The sun poked through the low-hanging roof of clouds that attached themselves to the tops of the trees. A few animals scampered away from the party. Those with keen eyes could even see a large boar-like animal that watched the group with disinterest.

Finally, after a good half day's march, the group could hear the sound of flowing water in the distant. Not long afterwards, the trees cleared and a small river came into view. According to the data the lieutenant gave on Kikli's datapad, the temple lay on the further side of the river.
OOC:
Alright, first off, due to the stifling humidity, everyone takes two strain.

Secondly, since you each had a chance to go through the storehouse, you can pick out basic equipment that an Imperial expedition would have. For example, rope, flashlight, stuff like that. Just make sure you mention it now, otherwise I assume you didn't pick anything up. And I'm not giving you an AT-AT. ;-)

Thirdly, I need a Hard perception check from everyone.

Rifling through the multitude of containers, Tark ponders what he had been told about the gas they were after. His implant should keep him safe, though he'd probably have to change the filter more frequently than normal.

Opening the next crate showed what he was looking for: a field medical kit and a couple stim packs. Fitting all of them with his other gear might be a bit difficult, but he could probably paw a stim pack each to the rest of the scouting group and keep one for himself.

Rokarr straps on some combat webbing and grabs a pair of electrobinoculars.

As the party sets out, Rokarr, blasters ready, ranges about a hundred meters ahead of the group. During the march, he darts in and out of sight, but pops into view every so often, flashing some basic combat hand signals to Kaiten, who he recognizes as the only other member of the party likely to have combat experience.

As the group reaches the river, Rokarr slips down to the edge, eyes ranging for any threats on the far bank. He holsters a pistol and dips his fingertips into the racing water, trying to get a sense for the temperature. He scans up and down river, looking for a ford.

The darting eyes of Tark, Kikli, and Rokar scan the area around the river. They see a spot where one could ford. However, at the very edge of their line of sight, a rope bridge could be seen. Attached to trees on either side of the river, the bridge swung precariously and looked like it had seen better days.
OOC:
There are two ways to cross the river. A hard Athletics check to ford the river since the river is rather fast with no setback dice due to the heat because your are in the water. Or an average coordination check with a setback die due to the heat for the rope bridge. However, since y'all got a bit of threat on the perception check, the bridge is in pretty bad shape. So the final roll for crossing the bridge is an average coordination upgraded once along with a setback. Take your pick.

Ketta's eyes and head shift back and forth from looking at the bridge to the ford, and back to the bridge trying to make up his mind. His posture sharpens quickly, his ear's dart upwards and he looks off in the distance as he comes to a seemingly alarming realization.

He looks to Kikli, placing a hand on the Chadra Fan's shoulder with a cautionary hesitance while looking with wide eyes.

"We small, water high, no good.

Ketta know Chadra Fan, Ketta read 'bout Chadra Fan in books. See holo vids, big wave, Chadra Fan no more, all gone."

He tighten the straps of his backpack down, wringing them out in the process, and dribbling water down the front of his pants. He twists around and fiddles with the large blaster hanging from his waist band which has been dragging in the muddy soil since he climbed out of the water. He picks the front of the weapon up and tucks it under the rear of the backpack and tromps back towards the rope bridge.

good, nice and cool. He mutters to himself.

I'll get it this time for sure... just didn't want to make a bad impression

Ketta strolls across the swaying creaking bridge, placing one small foot in front of the other, his hands held out away from his body ready to grab the rope hand rails should his footing falter. His hands don't actually reach the outer ropes, but it ends up not being necessary and his tiny feet pitter patter across the rope with grace and elegance until he glides into the grass on the other side if the water.

His arms return to their sides and he wriggles his shoulders against the tight backpack as he looks for his squadmates without even the slightest air of pridefulness.

With Tark's methodical fording of the river, a small ridge had been found in the middle of the water. Those who made their way across that part of the river could avoid the harshest currents.
OOC:
Thanks to Tark's Triumph, the river crossing difficulty is now average. However, since that seems like a lot for a triumph, I'm going to add a setback die since now those who cross the river have to do a little bit of balancing to stay on the ridge. So now, both options of crossing the river are the same difficulty. It all depends on whether you wish to use Athletics or Coordination.

With the river behind them and the party in decent shape (more or less), the scouts push forward into the trees. Small rocks begin to protrude from the ground at regular intervals. While not apparent to the untrained eye, Kikli and Zom could tell that these rocks were not put there by nature. While these rocks could have many uses, it becomes quickly obvious to the entire party that these rocks marked a path when they straddled a nasty-looking grove of prickly bushes on the left and a sheer wall of stone on the right.

OOC:
They are leading between the brambles and the wall of stone.
May 7, 2018 7:40 pm
Kikli will pick up a rock for a cursory study. Intriguing, this placement suggests something has deliberately marked a path. Perhaps the mysterious natives. He tosses the rock and adds this find to his personal notes on the planet.
May 8, 2018 3:36 pm
The stone-marked path wove in between the brush and the sheer rock wall with the path clinging more to the wall and finally leaving the brush below on the left. According to the coordinates on Kikli's datapad, the temple was in this vicinity.

The path continued to climb until it curved around rock wall and leveled out. And there, stood the temple. Or at least, what was once a temple.

From what the Imperial lieutenant had said, the temple had been standing when the scientists had last been here not that long ago. But now, what had been a temple lay in ruins. Small buildings stuck up from the rubble here and there, but most of them had walls missing. What had been columns (or poor excuses for columns) were strewn here and there in broken piles of stone.

If this was the temple, it certainly did not serve that function now.
May 8, 2018 4:05 pm
Ketta wandered over to the ruins, surveying the rubble. He climbed over the fallen stones, making his way into one of the partially standing buildings. Running his soft blue furry hand over the wall feeling the texture and observing the craftsmanship. He turned his attention to the floor of the building, covered in stone rubble. Randomly, he would pick up a stone and look underneath it. Letting the day light reveal any hidden treasures that might be hiding underneath before tossing it out of the room's debris footprint.
OOC:
@GM: I'd like to make a perception check to look for something/anything that might be buried. Maybe some loot maybe a hidden entrance to a deeper part of the temple, or maybe some petroglyphs that Kikli can translate.

@team: If we stay and try to find something, we might be here a while, and since the travel time was supposed to be 1 day's journey it may be getting dark soon. Do you guys want to setup a camp in one of these buildings and use some of this rubble to build up the walls around it so as to have a defensive measure in case the "locals" come out at night?

Once across the bridge, Rokarr's pistol instantly reappear in his hands. He'd been in too many surprise gunfights to not be ready. He tried to stay ahead of his party, but their curiosity drove them to risks that Rokarr could barely accept. They act like they're on a field trip. What I wouldn't give for a couple of Niktos to watch my back. As the group descends upon the ruins, Rokarr ranges off to the side, checking for evidence of any native activity. "Looks like we're gonna be here for a while. I doubt would be content with us finding a newly ruined temple. We need to find a way under this mess, and also set up a perimeter to make sure we don't join this mess."
OOC:
I also think a Perception check is in order, but Rokarr is more looking for threats than treasure :)

Ketta's perception check will be hard with a setback due to the rubble if he is not actually digging around. If he is stops merely looking and starts to unearthing things, it will be reduced to an average with a setback.

Rokar's perception check will be average with a setback due to the rubble.
May 8, 2018 7:24 pm
Taking a look around the ruined temple, Tark pondered for a moment before settling on a course of action. Taking a length of thin solder wire and a few left over scraps from his latest project, Tark began setting up a perimeter line.

I doubt I'll have any wire or scraps left over from this, better remember to recover it when we leave.
OOC:
What Tark's doing is setting up a trip alarm, flipping a Destiny point for the wire and bits and bobs. Do you want Tark to make some kind of check for this?
May 8, 2018 7:56 pm
Ketta continues to move rocks and rubble from inside one of the buildings. He's starting to methodically move stones from the floor and place them around the downed portion of the walls. Uncovering the floor of the ruined temple building. Work is slow going, but he is diligently looking for something while digging through the rubble.

The excess rubble moved during the searching has piled a row of rubble around the building enough to provide partial cover on the 2 sides that do not have upright walls.

Zom takes a moment to observe the others as they split up and begin their investigations of the temple ruins. What is this place? Why would you build a temple over a gas pocket? And how does a temple get destroyed? He stiffens and glances around nervously. Oh karrabast, did plants do this?
OOC:
I'd like to make a check to find out what was the likely cause of the temple's destruction. Can I use Knowledge Education, or just Perception?

As the sun turns from yellow to red and begins to slowly set, the party picks their way through the rubble.

Kikli, with handscanner in tow, surveys the mess. He notes that the temple is not ruined through age or corrosion. Something happened to the temple that would crush stone. However, there are still intact columns and a few structures partially standing. So whatever the event was, it did not last long enough to destroy everything.
OOC:
@Meribson, Tark can easily set up a trip wire around the remains of the temple. It just takes time.

@Havoc. Hmmm. Lets have a hard perception check but instead of using Cunning as a base use Intellect. You are trying to use both your senses and your brain as to why the temple looks like it does.

As the sun sets, Rokar finds a relatively intact room at the far edge of the temple ruins. While by no means a Naboo apartment, it is a comfortable enough building to sleep and hide from the irritating bugs and gnats that swarmed around the eyes and ears.

Having finished setting up the crude, Yet ion-proof, perimeter alarm, Tark took a quick inventory of his tool kit. He should be good for basic maintenance of his armor for a few weeks, but anything major and he'd need to scavenge replacement parts. Hopefully they'd be back to the main camp long before then.

Satisfied with his inventory check, Tark checked the local time. Much too late to go back to camp, and the hairless wookie seemed to have found a possible camp site. They needed to determine a watch order.
May 12, 2018 10:22 pm
First watch. No tired. Wet, but no tired.

Ketta unzipped his backpack, pulling out his Fusion Lantern. He powered up, and placed it on a pile of rocks and rubble. It's light casting all the way to the treeline, and casting shadows from the blocks of rubble.

He unclipped his bulky weapon from his waist and placed it in his lap and he sat down in front of the light. It's warmth beginning to drive away the river soaked dampness that permeated Kettas gear.

Ketta good. I let you know when see something bigger than face flies. He waved off the insects buzzing around his face that flew back towards the light.

Tark, you stay moment. Have question.
May 12, 2018 10:32 pm
"What is bothering you, Blue Thing?" [wary curiosity]
May 12, 2018 10:34 pm
Ketta looked over to Tark sitting on a pile of stones peering into the darkness. He wandered up and and sat down on the rocks next to Tark about an arms length away both looking into the night. Ketta layed his blaster rifle down to one side and reached into his backpack pulling out a ration pack and his comlink, placing them both on his lap. The ration pack, meant for an adult human male looked very large in his tiny blue hands about the size of a book in relation to a human. He tore the corner of the wrapper and peeled back the shiny packaging exposing a dark brown wafer about halfway down. He held the ration with both hands and bit off the corner of the soft crumbly wafer and started chewing silently. He transitioned the ration to his left hand, it's wrapper crinkling in the process as he picked up the commlink with his right hand.

You Droid? You look Droid. Ketta no never seen droid like you.

His eyes looked up to Tark, then back down to the comlink in his right hand and he fiddled with the buttons and switches still chewing on his oversized bite of food. Flipping a few switches on the commlink, Tark could see the Green power indicator was switched on, the Red transmitting light was illuminated and a blue light was blinking steadily.

Ketta held the commlink in his outstretched arm towards Tark, showing him the lights.

You marriage?... uh...You mate?...........

Struggling for the correct terminology in Galactic Basic, he squinted, and cocked his head to the side. Using his left hand pointed towards his ear. The motion shaking loose several crumbs from the half opened ration wafer.
OOC:
Ketta wants to pair his comlink with Tark's internal comlink so that the two can communicate
May 12, 2018 11:13 pm
OOC:
And I just realized that the only comlink Tark has is his implant. Heck with it, I'm tying it into his backstory, he's been away from other ganks for maybe a month at this point so is only just starting to realize that maybe not everyone has a comlink implanted into their brain. Since he's still trying to get his feet under him, so to speak, he hasn't had a chance to get an external comlink or had a chance to cobble one together.
Is that a... Tark thought to himself before closing his eyes to better focus. It had been a while since he'd last manually "looked" for a different frequency. Odds of Blue Thing's comlink being compatible were slim, but not impossi-nope, not compatible.

Letting out a sigh of frustration, Tark still answered the other questions, "I am not a droid. My species is called Gank, and with rare exceptions we do not remove our armor. The most common being reproduction, medical treatment, or cybernetic implantation. Unfortunately my comm implant will not link with your external comlink. I was raised with most dialog being sent through comm implants within the brain, giving me a lack of experience in inflecting audio dialog.

"Do you have any excess comlinks or other devices so that I may construct an external comlink?"

Zom, we should collaborate. Says Kikli as he makes his way towards his tall blue friend. Picking up a loose piece of rubble as a prop for emphasis he begins. Destruction was caused by something unnatural. Look here, hardly any signs of deterioration or erosion. Coordinates match up with ones issued, something happened here. Fight perhaps? No sign of combat, too much collateral damage. Very mysterious. Either way should report findings to Vas.
May 13, 2018 6:56 am
Meribson says:

"Do you have any excess comlinks or other devices so that I may construct an external comlink?"
Ketta shook his head from side to side, clicked a couple buttons on his comlink and put it in his pocket.

After taking a second oversized bite of ration, he pulls his blaster a little closer and looks at Kikli study the rock in his hand before turning his attention back to the darkness before him and the cacophony of singing insects unseen but deafening in the quietness of the evening.
May 14, 2018 1:58 am
Zom walks over to Kikli and shares his observations. There seem to be signs of an explosion. This is a form of tibanna gas right? It may be highly flammable, we should be careful with our blaster shots
May 14, 2018 5:07 pm
Indeed, we will need excavation equipment to locate the source. Kikli drops the rubble and rummages through his bag for a comlink. Finding it without much trouble, he tries to contact Lieutenant Vas
May 14, 2018 6:00 pm
The comlink buzzes to life as Kikli attempts to connect with the Imperial base. It takes a few minutes, but eventually the connection is made. Lieutenant Vas sounds slightly strained as he answers.

"Um, yes. This is Vas. Is that Scout Team #2?"
May 14, 2018 8:13 pm
While waiting for a reply Kikli takes out a glow rod, just now realizing how dark the sky has become. As the faint crackles become understandable he wears a small grin.

Scout team #2 reporting in. We have successfully located the ruins of the temple and have established a camp without any resistance from the local inhabitants. Cursory overview has shown no signs of the Tibanna gas, however there is evidence of its presence nearby. Please advise.

Kikli brings out his datapad, rapidly compiling his current data for overview.
OOC:
If possible I'd like to send the data to Vas, but the current circumstances seem poor for relaying information.
May 15, 2018 12:51 am
"Wait. The temple is in ruins? The scientists who were on the planet previously didn't say anything about that. Hmmm. Something must have happened to the temple."

He paused and the comlink crackled.

"I'll need to speak to the Captain. He is busy, but I'll put this on his itinerary in the morning. He's...um...asleep right now and he does not like interruptions. See if you can get some indication of what caused the temple to fall apart. I'll..."

There was a crash of some sort in the background that made the comlink fizz.

"I'm sorry," Vas says. "Scout Team #1 has come back. It seems one of their group has met with a nasty wound. Good luck! We will speak again."
OOC:
Data is not able to be sent between the datapads. You were just able to get a signal on the comlink.
May 15, 2018 3:23 am
Understood, Scout team #2 out.

Stashing the comlink into his bag, he says out loud to the rest of the team: Great news everyone, command had no knowledge of these ruins, meaning we get to make some discoveries tomorrow! Bad news is the first scout team has a newly injured member, meaning odds of backup arriving are currently diminishing.

With his speech finished, Kikli stretches his arms out and considers taking a rest.
May 15, 2018 4:50 pm
Rokarr settles into a corner. He keeps one pistol in his hand as he closes his eyes. "Wake me up when it's my watch. Or don't wake me. Either is fine."
May 15, 2018 9:46 pm
As last light of the sun drifted away from the trees, the forest became louder as nocturnal animals began to appear. Those still awake could see some bantha-like animal lumber through the trees at one point while a flock of very large featherless birds perched themselves on top of an intact temple half-building and cawed incessantly for about thirty minutes.

But by and large the fauna stayed away from the scouts. The ruins of the temple seemed to be avoided by the creatures. The night wore on and the large trees swayed in the wind. Zom Belt took his turn at the watch and listened to the sounds of the night.

While Zom sat staring into the forest, his eyes wandered to a fragment of stone that lay almost buried beneath the ground. On closer examination and upon removing some of the dirt that covered the stone, a faded mural could be seen on the piece of rock.

From what the Duros could pick out, there was a large temple surrounded by two smaller temples. In the larger temple, yellow fumes appeared to rise from the sides of the temple walls. Likewise, yellow fumes rose from the sides of the smaller temples but converged with the fumes from the larger temple to create one large fume that disappeared into the sky. While hard to see since the mural had been partially destroyed, small figures seemed to be looking up at the fumes as they reached into the heavens.

Zom peered to look closer at the mural as the darkness seemed to close in. However, that was not all that closed in upon the scouting party. Something lurked out in the dark.

As if on cue, a cold wind blows over the temple as dark figures come rushing out of the trees. Eerily, their advance is quiet except for one blood-curdling scream that comes from the lips of one of the figures. They rush over the ruins of the temple towards the relaxed scouting party.

Zom can see multiple dark shapes form into human figures. Even in the dark of the night, he can make out some features from a quick glance. Their hair is brilliantly white, and their skin looks as if someone lashed them with a rake. Onward they came as Zom's eyes grew wider.

But his shots go wild, flashing past the natives harmlessly. The crimson bolts do make the attackers hesitate briefly, giving a small window of opportunity.

Ketta quickly digs into his back pack, rummaging through its bulky contents. He pulls out his Luma Flare Launcher, pointing it High into the night sky he squints and pulls the trigger.

With a "fwooop" the flare left the barrel of the launcher much slower than required for a healthy launch. The launching rocket motor sputtered and fizzled. The accidental splash in the river earlier must have compromised the powder charge. It only reached the height of about 2 meters in the air before the flare began burning. It was bright, much brighter than the fusion lantern. It started its descent immediately and landed a short distance away from Ketta. It clicked and clacked on the rubble stones as the flare hissed and burned with a fervent brilliance.

With the bolas flying through the air and the Duros quickly scrambling out of the way, the forest denizens advanced again. One group lets fly a hail of javelins at the slightly bruised Duros hiding behind some rock.

The other group, seeing the impact of a flare of light, set their sights on the Squib.

By the way, y'all weren't going in initiative order for some reason. It doesn't really matter since I retconned it but Kikli wouldn't have had a setback thanks to Ketta's flare and his difficulty would have only been 1 since the baddies advanced closer.

Blaster fire began to whip through the night as Kikli aimed his blaster. As the javelins came down upon Zom and Ketta, one of the javelin throwers clutches his shoulder and falls back slightly panting as blaster bolts hit him.

Meanwhile, Tark has rushed forward. The other group of javelin throwers, caught off-balance by this move are unable to counter right away. The Gand's pole-axe swung around and caught one of them in the stomach. Grunting in pain, he fell to the ground unmoving.

The only thing you forgot was that the difficulty was only one purple die (and one more because of the two weapon penalty) since you were firing on short range. So I disregarded that extra die that you rolled. Also, the damage was 9 and 8 since you add the successes to the damage. But you leveled those blokes taking all three out. Next Round Up.
May 21, 2018 11:43 pm
Seeing that the intruders were made of sterner stuff than they first anticipated, the natives' eyes began to smolder.

The group of figures who had thrown the bolas rush up with axes raised high.
OOC:
The two minion groups who had thrown the bolas use a maneuver to get out their axes and their action to move into short range. So there is one group engaged with Tark and two who are rushing up and are at short range.
May 21, 2018 11:54 pm
Seeing the rest of the attackers approaching the group, Tark's eyes narrowed behind his helmet. Taking a moment to determine the pattern of the attackers, he stepped up his attack, seeking to end the fight as soon as he could.
OOC:

OOC:

Ketta winces at the immense pain from the Javelin in his side. Without turning to run or move from his position he raises his Cryoban Projector. The unconventional weapon has no sights to speak of, but he pauses for a moment to aim in the direction of the charging assailants. He can see them clearly in the light of the botched flare sputtering on the ground, as well as the light coming from the fusion lantern behind him. He eyes his target in front of him. His ears tilt backward low against his head. His eyes narrow in a fixed glare, his teeth become visible in a snarled look. His finger squeezes the trigger.

The Projector let's out a loud "click" noise.
OOC:

After a brief malfunction with the gun, Ketta lets a blast out of his gun aimed at the incoming natives. One is thrown back and surprisingly returns to his feet with a groan.

Not far away, the quick jerks of a poleaxe indicate Tark's proficiency with the weapon. The two remaining natives fighting him are taken down with ease.

As Rokar pops his shots off, the natives try to dance out of the way. Unfortunately for them, the gunslinger's shots were on the mark. Two natives fell with smoldering holes in the bellies. However, three still held strong and rushed the Klatooinian.

Their axes held high they swung viciously. The quick feet of the gunslinger saved him as he stepped aside here and dodged away there. While still off-balance, he was alive.
OOC:
The advantage will be a setback to Rokar's next action. If the baddies survive that long. If you shoot at the baddies you need to upgrade the difficulty because you might hit Rokar.

Biting his bottom lip, Ketta squints with one eye down the barrel of the projector, knowing he could potentially wound his friend with a scattered blast from his gun, he weighs his options for a moment before pulling the trigger.

His shot lands on one of the natives with a burst of blue streaking frost and Ketta lets out a great sigh of relief for missing his ally. The concentration took a toll on his mental state, fearing he might have made the wrong choice.

Blood pumping, a wicked grin under his helmet, Tark raced to the last of the natives, eager to continue fighting and spill some blood.
OOC:
Assuming that they are at short range, Tark uses a maneuver to get in close and then his action to start chopping.

That's 6 damage with 2 pierce. Nothing fancy, but should still be useful against minions.

Ketta's shots thankfully managed to miss Rokar and the natives cried out as they were hit here and there by the nasty flashes of light. This was quickly followed by Tark's charge into the midst of them. Swinging his weapon around he knocked a head off leaving two bruised natives panting around him.
OOC:

One native down, two to go. By the way @KirkaFordisRex, upgrading means replacing a purple with a red. Increasing difficulty is adding a purple. Don't sweat it this time, just a note. Darn word-play.
Jun 11, 2018 9:10 pm
Rokar dances as the natives move to attack him. A few close calls, but he manages to keep his skin intact. He steps back, spinning his pistols with a flourish. "Never bring a knife, er, axe, to a gunfight."
OOC:
Looks like 11 damage and 2 strain from the threat, unless GM has a better idea.

The blast from Rokarr's pistol downs a native and another quick blast wings the last one. The lone, crippled native starts to retreat from the battle but does not get far. He makes it to a grassy space a few yards away before he keels over. Dead and bloody natives lie dead around the party. A good night's sleep ruined.
OOC:
I will pocket those two threat Bardo so kindly gave me. They shall reveal themselves soon.

Ketta lowers his blaster, and lets it hang from the strap. Walking over to the nearest native, he taps it with his foot, to ensure it's deceased state before kneeling next to the body and searching for items on the native.
OOC:
Ketta wants to loot the bodies for information on who they are and where they came from, and also if there are any gear or items that can be obtained
Jun 21, 2018 3:56 am
The bodies of the natives were relatively sparse in what they had. The clothing was quite primitive leaving the weapons as the only tools of value. The darkness was still clinging to the trees around them but the wind had changed signalling the coming of early morning.
OOC:
The only things the natives are carrying are their weapons which are large axes and javelins. But, since we are looking around, Perception check everyone. Average with a setback due to the darkness.

A quick glance around reveals nothing of notice. However, Fiksu Ketta walks around the bodies strewn out here and there. As he looks around, he catches some movement out of the corner of his eye just outside the ruins and slightly within the tree-line surrounding it.
OOC:
The threat everyone generated will be strain. But there are not one, but two hanging triumphs. What, pray tell, does the party have in mind for them?

Ketta's ears perk up at and begin twisting independently to locate the source of the sound.
Quiet now! Something there. Many around.

Trying to sniff the breeze and get a better direction, he arches his body, stiffens his back, raises up on the toes, as a sharp bolt of pain distracts his attempt taking 2 strain. Ketta grabs his shoulder where the spear had struck, a darkened stain grows ever larger under his shirt.

Reaching into the leg pocket of his pants, he pulls out a stimpack. Biting the tip of the injector, he pulls off the protective cap, revealing the syringe. He delicately injects the medicine at the wound site until the pack is empty healing 5 wounds. He takes the cap out of his mouth, replaces it over the syringe and puts it in his bag.

Clutching his weapon, he scampers back toward the party, and the light of the Fusion Lantern. Taking cover behind some of the stony rubble.

"Oooh, another fight?" [eager anticipation]
OOC:
I'm going to give Tark 2 Conflict, 1 each for this and the last post, for his eagerness to fight.
Jun 27, 2018 10:09 pm
Alerted to the scuffling thanks to Ketta, the party could now tell in what general direction it was coming from. Kikli peers into morning night and makes out a large nest (from his memory of the area, probably a nest of the rather large Hiklee bird) dangling precariously above the general area of the scuffling. Strangely, whatever was making the noise didn't seem to be moving at a fast pace. Or at all.
OOC:
Kikli's triumph is that the nest above the scuffling is large, bowl-like, and likely at any provocation. An easy ranged attack (with the setback for the dark) just might make it fall.
Jun 28, 2018 2:45 am
Prepare yourself. Gonna draw it out. Carefully aiming his blaster at the nest, Kikli fires off a shot. It finds its mark easily, Kikli hopes everyone witnessed such a display of marksmanship as he grins.

Kikli cooly fires off a shot at the nest. And it is, indeed, a beautiful shot. The branch breaks and the nest falls heavily to the ground. There is a audible "OOF" and then nothing. A flock of birds cry out irritably at the continued disturbance and fly off to find some peace and quiet.

The sounds of the forest return and the crashed nest lie there in the growing light of the morning.
OOC:
The advantage can be that the shot is done in such a proficient way that all are in awe of your talents. It's like you are a gunslinger or something. ;-)
