Chapter 2: Welcome to Barovia

Apr 26, 2018 6:59 pm
Wil travels fast through alleyways and soon emerges into a town square. A single shaft of light thrusts illumination into the main square, its brightness looking like a solid pillar in the heavy fog. Above the gaping doorway, a sign hangs precariously askew, proclaiming this to be the Blood on the Vine tavern.

Another building in the square also seems to be inhabited. The sparse light from this building spills out from behind drawn heavy curtains. A sign over the door, creaking on its hinges, reads "Bildrath's Mercantile."

Wil heads into the the tavern.
Apr 26, 2018 10:40 pm
Greymond follows. It's a pleasure. He says to their new companion leaving the burning house behind them. Ah, a tavern, now that's a sight for sore eyes. I need a stiff'ne after all that.
Apr 26, 2018 10:50 pm
A blazing fire in the hearth gives scant warmth to the few huddled souls within. The tavern contains 3 people sitting at a table near the door, caught up in discussion. They barely acknowledge your presence. The attendant at the bar doesn't acknowledge you at all, constantly cleaning wine glasses. Another man, sitting alone in a corner table in the back, seems to take great interest in your entrance and silently glances at you as he continues to sip his wine.

After entering the tavern and glancing around at the occupants, Basra notices the interested look we are drawing from the single man in the back corner (Passive Perception is 14). He tries to get a better look at the man without being obvious about it.
OOC:
Should I roll for something for that? Sleight of hand, Perception, or Insight perhaps?

Also, did we take any kind of rest to refill spell slots and heal damage? Wil and I are full health but I don't think Greymon and Ryn are. Also, spell slots aren't full.

[ +- ] His Picture
The man doesn't seem to notice you sneaking glances at him. With that natural 20, You gauge from his body language that he means to stand up and address you but wants to get a better idea of your disposition before he does so. You also pick up his fascination at Wil and Greymond, almost as if he's never seen their kind.
OOC:
No, we didn't take a rest. When would we have done that?
Apr 27, 2018 2:58 am
Ryn takes a moment and casts fiendish vigor, then heads with the others pulling Basra along. "I couldn't agree more my friend. Come Basra, let's get a drink. We can tell you of the horrors of this house, and you can tell me what happened since we last left off."

OOC:
I thought maybe before we headed to the light in the sky but that’s ok.
"Oh right, of course. A drink to the memory of your friend would be good. And I do wish to hear of what transpired in that house." Basra gets pulled along by Ryn. He would like to sit in a way that he can observe as much of the room as possible, including the man he noticed earlier.

Wil walks up to the man looking their way and says, tossing a silver coin in the barkeep’s direction: A drink for me and my new friend here, Mr...?
Apr 27, 2018 11:37 am
Indirovich. Ismark Indirovich. He says, as if he's genuinely surprised by your friendliness. He holds out a hand to shake, getting up from his table. And let me pay for that. He says as he slips a silver piece into Wil's hand as they shake. He turns toward the barkeep A pitcher for the table, please, and a glass for each of these strangers. The bartender stops cleaning glasses, pours a pitcher of wine, sets it on Ismark's table, and goes back to mindlessly cleaning glasses. Come. Sit and talk with me won't you? He motions to you all to come sit at his table.

Wil shakes the mans hand and smiles at the man, thanking him graciously for his hospitality. He pulls out a chair obviously meant for a full-grown man, and hops onto it on his knees, as a child might do to be closer to sitting like an adult. It would look cute seeing this act from from afar.

Wil is intent on trying to get a bead on this guy.

Basra will be the last to take a seat and wants to sit in a way he can see the door while they are at the table if possible. "And just what is it that you want to talk about, precisely, good sir?" He tries to speak politely, but he feels uncomfortable about the look he saw in the mans eyes before they approached. His discomfort bleeds into his tone just a little bit.
Apr 28, 2018 3:49 pm
Wil: The man doesn't seem to have any adverse intentions beyond getting your attention. He doesn't smile throughout your interaction but seems less than dour.

The man answers Basra's question You look able. I would ask you to help me get my adopted sister, Ireena Kolyana, to safety in Vallaki. She is beset by the Devil Strahd and I cannot do it on my own.
Apr 28, 2018 4:17 pm
Ryn looks around to see if anybody else is listening or reacts to the strangers remarks.

Rolls

Perception - (1d20+3)

(3) + 3 = 6

Apr 28, 2018 4:26 pm
The three men, that you now notice are dressed in a similar way to the the people you rode into town with, don't stop their discussion and the bartender continues staring at the wall, cleaning wine glasses.
Apr 28, 2018 6:01 pm
"What is the Devil Strahd, and why would she be safe in Vallaki?" Basra has never heard of this Devil Strahd, but he assumes that it is some kind of affliction, and he is willing to help cure the girl if it is possible. He has a flashback to his hometown, looking down at his sisters afflicted body.
Apr 28, 2018 6:24 pm
You are truly newcomers. The Devil Strahd is a curse placed on us as a punishment for our ancestor's sins. He is a vampire of great power that resides in Castle Ravenloft and he has taken great interest in my sister. If i can take her the farthest away from the castle that I can, then I hope his pursuit will be halted or at least hindered. But I need you to help.
Apr 28, 2018 6:46 pm
Castle Ravenloft, hmmm....." Basra searches his mind for any knowledge of this place or any rumor he might have heard of a vampire in the area.

I am sure we can help you bring your sister to safety. We were actually brought her at the request of a Burgonaster who shares your last name. Any relation to Kolyan?
