Shooting with the turmoil bonus means that you will randomly hit one of the people engaged in melee. You risk hitting an ally.
Oh is that what that means? Well that does make sense. So can you choose NOT to use the bonus? And if you do use it, how is it determined who gets hit?
Yes, you can choose to not get the bonus. Getting the bonus means you shoot at random in the big group of combattants. You can just aim at the zombie and take the usual -1 engaged in melee penalty...
I'm ignoring Hotwire's addition of turmoil into his attack - as
1. Not really a very turmoil-y line up (1 rank + 1 person?)
2. I have not noticed it in previous attacks (sorry) and would have to roll randomly as to who is hit - this would have undoubtedly meant hitting a PC at some point.
Yeah my posts have been inconsistent because TBH I'm a bit fuzzy on the rules. I thought maybe I finally had it after kalajel explained it to me in this thread but now I don't know... :-(
Actually I was adding a bonus before but in my latest post I added a penalty.
So wait, what are the correct conditional modifiers to use for shooting into a turmoil? Looking at the rules now it says +1 to CTN per melee participant but you risk hitting an ally. What happens if you spend a round aiming?
They might not make it clear, but I always interpret the rules so that the turmoil bonus is optional, otherwise ranged attackers have the potential of being really detrimental to the party. Otherwise, you can simply use the rule about "Shooting and Obstacles" on the same page, on the next column.
