You make your way to the entrance of the cave. It looks dark inside. You're definitely going to need some kind of light source.
OOC:
You can give me a perception check if you like.

Sovelin continues after Tomas wondering "dont you know that there could be fierce beasts inside caves such as these"

Congratulations on the crit! You perceive everything!

Without lighting a torch you peer into the cave. You instantly recognise that it is not a natural formation. The cave opens up into a large chamber. The sides of the cave have been hewen as if from very primitive tools that made more use of brute strength than actual finesse. You see what appears to be some kind of mural or wall carving on one side of the cavern. However, you would need to use a torch to make out any of the details.

There is a passage which leads deeper into the earth and there are no apparent threats. There is a constant whistling sound as if wind is being funneled through the cave, so you suspect there may be another exit.

"Der coilin' fer us, Sovelin!! We gutta go on an' halp! Gutta torcher fer us to sea?"

Tomas is shifting his weight from one foot to the other, anxiously, eager to head into the cave.

I believe I have one in my pack. Sovelin sifts through his pack and pulls out one torch and lights it using his tinderbox. Now let’s head into the cave.

As you pass by the mural you can't help but notice that ut reads somewhat like a comic book. The first panel contains a crude depiction of what appears to be some kind of bipedal lizard-humanoid creature with a massive club like tail on its knees praying to some frog-like deity. The god seems to have answered the creature's prayers for in the next scene it and many others like it are battling hordes of undead creatures with a beautiful longbows. The longbow itself is a repeated motif and seems somehow significant.

As you travel deeper into the cave you come to a fork in the path. Carved on the wall is the same lizard creature with its hands stretched out to the left and right. To the left it is holding some kind of earth and to the right it seems to be holding smoke or perhaps air? Wind maybe?

Which passage do you choose?

"Uh..." says Tomas, as he looks to Sovelin for guidance - stumped by this fork in the road. He peers more closely at Sovelin, now that things are a bit more calm. What does his scaly friend look like at this closer distance? Does he look like the lizard creature on the wall?

You take the path to the right and after a few moments the path ends in front of a large, seemingly bottomless pit. On the other side of the pit there is an open portal. Spanning the pit is a very narrow path, it is only about one foot wide. The walls around the pit are full of holes.

What do you do?
OOC:
To cross the pit via the narrow path please make an acrobatics check. To climb the walls of the pit please make an athletics check.

Sovelin sees the pit and instantly backpedals several steps....He takes several deep breaths to calm himself down, and inches back towards the pit. Looking at the wall he decides to climb rather then traverse the path What mad man decides to make a bottomless pit in the middle of a cave.
OOC:
thats unfortunate

Tomas begins pulling out his rope (the duct tape of the pre-modern periods) and begins to look around this area for a place that it could be attached to when he notices Sovelin already on the wall, struggling.

"AAAAHHHH!!!"
May 25, 2018 2:38 pm
@Sovelin: You make it about ten feet across the forty foot pit before your muscles begin to cramp up. Rather than head back you decide to press forwards. That was a mistake. You make it a few more feet before your arm gives out and you miss your next hand hold.
OOC:
Could I get a dexterity saving throw please?
May 25, 2018 2:41 pm
OOC:
@Thomas. As dragon are reptilian creatures there is some similarity between the creature and Sovelin but they don't seem to be very closely related. The lizard-creature's head is too small and its eyes are disproportionally large.
May 25, 2018 3:17 pm
As Tomas continues freaking out, he tosses the coils of rope towards the falling Sovelin, hoping it will help somehow. He readies himself to take on a lot of weight by planting his feet on the ground and gripping the end of the rope firmly, twisting it once to bring it around his wrist.

As Sovelin misses the next arm hold he wonders if only I didn’t try to conquer my fear of heights in such extreme ways
