As Larry strides to the table, the spider pulls away from the prone Dr and scuttles around at an insane speed and snaps its mandibles directly at Larry. The huge gaping maw snaps, close to Larry's neck, but doesn't hit him.

Although it doesn't break, the glass ball does nothing against the hard chitin of the spider. It does distract the spider momentarily though.
