Chapter 3

Tomas relays everything to Mr. Sigmar that they know, except for the information on Divine Gifts. He stresses the world-ending threat that the Destroyer represents and the fact that their agents might continue to attack this Trading Outpost, meaning the best move is to probably lay in wait for their next attack, counterstrike, and collect what information they can while the enemy still underestimates them.

"... So, what do you think Mr. Sigmar?"
Jul 6, 2018 2:13 am
That's very unfortunate news. I must inform my superiors immediately. In the meantime, I am going to summon the leaders of Berda to a council. You are all invited. Let's meet shortly after lunch in the common room of The Hunter's Mark. Is there anything else?

Tomas looks to his companions to see if there's something that he's forgotten.

OOC:
If no one wants to ask anything more specific then we'll move on to the council.
Jul 6, 2018 3:21 am
Sovelin keeps his silence and seems to not notice what’s going on around him

OOC:
Fine to move on to the council. I guess I'd just want to know if Mr. Sigmar showed any signs of surprise or, on the opposite end, familiarity. No major insights and something that could wait until the council for follow-up, Tomas would have just been looking at his face. Made an insight roll if that's necessary.

He definitely seems afraid of what you just said.

I don't think I like this Spring fellow

The color drains from Tomas's face a bit as he loses some of his composure. He doesn't look to his companion but instead towards Mr. Sigmar, to see if the man has any sort of reaction. Perhaps he didn't hear Saris's outburst.

The emergency council meets an hour later in the common room of the Hunter’s Mark. Several tables have been pushed together and the prominent leaders of the town have all gathered. Mr Sigmar gets up and addresses the group.
I have called you all hear at the request of Innkeeper Lena Lionheart and this group of strangers. I think everyone here would rather hear what happened from all of you. Please tell us of the extent of the threat to Berda Trading Post.
Sep 27, 2018 3:43 pm
Herod stands before the group: I don't know about the rest of the group, but I was dreaming when all of a sudden, a crash through the windows and at the front door woke me and these fellows up, and we saw some hooded figures. When I would bludgeon them with my fists and staff, they would explode with blood and gore all over. I know that I am not a strong person, so this could not have been due to my physical strength.

The final person left standing spoke to us, telling him he points to Tomas to give that person "the shard". Obviously, I did not know what that meant, but my friends and I dispatched of the final person in short order. He also mentioned something like, "the master knows your location" and what-not. Honessly, a didn' pe too much attention ta wha' the parson sed, been hung ova an' tired. Tha nex marnin, we spoke aboot tha foight, trine ta piece tagetha what tha' attack was oll aboot.
OOC:
The stress is causing him to lose focus and concentration, and his accent is starting to peer through.

The stocky half-elf steps up right after the monk finishes.

"Yes, what Herod said is all true. Some evil wizard sent magical assassins of their own making after us, in order to get something I have. Given that this dark mage's very first action towards us was to try and kill us, I don't think they'll accept anything less than the slaughter of anyone who gets in their way or seems like they could get in their way. The blood clones that we fought off yesterday have said that this wizard's forces are already heading this way to kill every last person in this outpost - man, woman, child. Though we are uncertain from which direction or when this attack is going to occur, I'm sure that, with all our strength and minds put together we shall vanquish this evil threat. I and my companions already have some ideas about how to handle the situation but we won't be able to accomplish this alone. We need your help as much as you need ours to face these foes."

Tomas gives the council of influential town leaders a solemn nod and does his best to maintain a projection of confidence.

Lena pipes in at this stage I don't know much ahout the rest of it but you can see the remnants of the creatures on the floor over there. she points to the blood stains on the floor. If it's undead your worrying about you might want to go and see my old friend Oli, she lives in her grove about a days travel to the west of us. She's a druid and she will want to hear of anything that upsets the natural balance of the land.
Master Salmalin waits for her to finish before speaking his mind. It seems to me that what we have here is a magic problem. There is a powerful magic user who makes his home in an old lighthouse down the coast. If we want to know more about this strange magic he says pointing at the bloodstains we should send someone to go and ask him.
You don't mean Alik the mad? Ms Bella Fraught interrupts. He's called "the mad" for a reason. The old half-elf is off his rocker. What we really need to do is organise our defences. The supply ship is due to arrive today. I'll see if the ship can't spare us a squad of marines to help out. Meanwhile, we should work on building a defensive wall around the town. Serpentskull, the half orc runs the saw mill up river. We could get him to float some logs down the stream and use his timber to build a tower of two. Someone should go and ask him.
I could do that Haedrid the blacksmith agrees. But I think I had better spend my time making us some weapons. Also, yer gonna need some nails and shite for your wall.
All excellent suggestions my friends. Father Bennett agrees. But if you have an undead problem, then you should go and ask the experts for help. Three days to the south there lies an abbey. Inside you'll find the Order of the Silver Flame. A militant order of Pelor, they will definitely send aid to help us in our time of need. The more practitioners of Pelor the better.
Mr. Sigmar nods his agreement. Also, there are lots of scattered farms around hereabouts. The farmers need to be warned. Also, I bet some of the local lads and lasses know their way about a weapon. We could form some kind of militia but they'll need training
Also, we need to send out some runners to warn the hunters and bring them back. We could use them as scouts. Although we don',t know exactly which way the attack will come from, I think it is most likely to come from either the west or north as the south and east are guarded by the city of North Watch. We could also ask them for aid but they are more that a weeks ride to the south.

Well friends. What do you think we should do and how do you think you can best help us?

Sovelin takes an interest in Alik. i would like to meet this "Alik the mad" as you call him. He seems like he would be quite knowledgeable about what is going on.
Sep 29, 2018 2:10 pm
Herod stands:

A thank we otta hedge orr bets. We need oll tha help we ca’get. Ma group here ca’handle ourselves, sa’this mad mage ess probably who wa’seek out firs. Aftar, ve shood then go to the Drude and seek heraid.

But yuh shood send some guards ba horseback ta’collec farmers.

Yuh shood also send our prrriest ana couple guards doonta that priest orrder o’ Pelor.

Have tha’rest of town focus on arms an defenses. Build the wolls, have the blacksmith mek nails an tools an weapons. Hev a couple o’ good cooks feed all them workin fer ar defense. Have people prae to tha gods. Have merriment a’nigh.

Ane farmers tha’com en from tha’ootsoid help wiff buildin an defendin.

This is oll hands on deck!

Tomas had his eyes partially closed, face twitching once in a while, as he listened to the group. Memories, his own and not, flooded through his mind as he looked at this problem.

"I don't think going to this Alik is a priority, personally. Basic defenses and lookouts should be set-up before going on any wild goose chases. He might even be worse than unhelpful. Who's to say this 'Mad' man isn't the same magician who made these blood clones?

...

My suggestions: Runners to the hunters immediately, ask them to keep watch on and around the major roads to the Outpost. On their way back, the runners should hit some of the larger groupings of scattered farms and then get those farmers to spread the word. They'd know their neighbors better than anyone. Have them spread the word of the danger and to make their way back here with what crops they can bring - to be paid for, of course. As for our-"
and he looks at the warriors to his left and right "-move, I think we ought to stay nearby until the supply ship gets here. There could be marines or mercenaries on board to help defend the Outpost while we're away on a longer mission. I don't want to be gone for 2 to 6 days and find out the attack happened while we were gone with no lookouts having been set up. Right? So how far away is this half-orc lumberjack up the river? Within half a day's travel? If not, we might be better off training up some militia and staying put until the ship makes landfall."
OOC:
Can you sketch out a really basic drawing (could just be dots near a coastline+river) of where all these places are in relation to us? I'm not sure where up-river of down-the-coast is relative to the cardinal directions.

Also, this suggestion is partially because I think it's best, partially because I want the group to get together before a long journey happens.

OOC:
Just so you all know. Berda Trading Post is a very small town. The buildings consist of The Western Trading Company Office, The Temple of Pelor, The Hunter's Mark Inn, a couple of small warehouses near the docks, eight private dwellings belonging to farming families who own farms in the immediate vicinity, and three large buildings which house the lumber mill workers. As for people. You've probably met most of them. There are only three marines besides Ms Fraught who guard the trading post located on the first floor of the Western Trading Company's office. So you don't have any runners per se.

OOC:
Ah, what. I thought them mentioning runners meant that they'd have some. Maybe the young men and women who are likely of decent fitness could be runners?
