Hearing voices, Duke begins to struggle trying to rock his cocoon some. He wants to let who ever is out there know he is alive. "HELP" Perhaps someone has found him in time.

Stalwart pulls out his handaxe as he walks to the cocoon. "Stay still," he says and slits the cocoon along the nearest side. "That should do it."

Duke grips his hand strongly and pulls himself free of the cocoon. "Many thanks. I be Duke." He takes a moment to finally stretch out is body get a deep breath for once. "I don't know how long I been in there or where I am at. I felt been moved many times." as he looks about.

I would like to point out that Yorrick is standing next to the now empty cacoon, shaped as a giant spider. He's just watching things happen.

I'll just add that Duke's shield has a glowing sigil of a phoenix. It is the source of the glowing light.

Good point I didn't think about it being a point as opposed to the whole shield. The flaming sword pattern on the shield takes the whole length of it. How large is the phoenix sigil?
I'm assuming that Duke just recently acquired the shield and has actually summoned the phoenix really more than once before. And you can imagine his surprise then.

So now the Pheonix symbol takes up the entire shield face with a single point of light like in the middle of the sigil?

Duke as soon as you are freed from the cacoon, you begin to take in your surroundings. Your observant feat allows you to notice a few details missed by the others.
You see that the room is filled with spider eggs, in one corner you see a bunch of eggs that look remarkably different from the other eggs. Movement catches your eye and you see an awesome looking blue tarantula sized spider with orange legs climb up onto one of the piles of eggs. You see it rear back and then sink its fangs into one of the eggs.

Duke turns away from Stalwart drawing out handaxe and throw at the spotted spider. He will then move to close in on it drawing a longsword.

Even though your axe was clearly going to miss, you see the spider vanish into thin air as the axe strikes the nearby eggs.

Duke with his sword out moves to eggs, but not to attack and instead retrieves his handaxe, "Has anyone here seen a blue tarantula sized tarantula with orange legs like the one that is in this room now?"
Question: When Duke was cocooned was he fighting? If so his shield is strapped to his arm right now and if he wasn't fighting then it is strapped to his back on his pack and I'm guessing a full round action to get it strapped to his arm. If it is on his arm then he has sheaved this sword and the handaxe is in his hand or if no shield strapped then he has sword and handaxe right now?
