OOC:
@Moon: Did you want to do something on the way to Berda? If so please let me know within 24 hours of this post. Otherwise, I'll keep the story moving forwards.

Yorrick stands quietly in the back, looking around the room. He is shifting uncomfortably in the presence of so many uniformed people.
Mar 18, 2019 6:40 am
Who are you calling "Mad"? You turn to see Alik, the mage whose tower you visited as he enters the room. He is a middle aged human and walks with a gold plated wooden staff.

I tell you, you play one trick on the Lord of Northwatch, and you get banished and called Mad. I mean how was I to lnow he'd end up kissing his own mother? Anyway, I've been keeping an eye on the northern border. Orcs have just come through. They will be here by nightfall tomorrow at the earliest and the next dawn at the latest. Hundreds of them.

Ms. Fraught nods solemnly. If we can get that river diverted, then we'd have some decent defences with the moat and palisade guarding three sides of the town and the ocean guarding the other. But we might not have enough time. In which case we should abandon the defences and start drilling the workers. We have plenty of bows and arrows. The farms have bpught in plenty of food too. We have spears and shields for everyone but we don't have a lot of armour to go around. Your thoughts? she raises an eyebrow at the group and Alik.

Stalwart turns to Alik. "Thank you for joining us, wizard friend. Your skills and knowledge will be a great help to the town's defenses."

Then he turns back to the lieutenant. "How many defenders do we have? I am worried that we are at at great disadvantage in a conventional battle. Is is feasible to break up the horde before they reach the town? Since orcs are combative by nature, can we get them to fight each other somehow? Oli, are there any woodland beings nearby that can aid us? The more surprises we have for the orcs, the better."

OOC:
Sorry, life happened and I'm only now returning to posting. Moon was planning on sneaking away during camps and checking her mirror for new clues. Since the last one disappeared :D
Mar 20, 2019 2:08 am
OOC:
Let's say that an episode happened. You tried to use your mirror and got nothing from it. You tried changing your shape and it didn't work. Then you went back to join the others and they challenged you "who are you? Where is Moon?" You looked in the mirror and only see your normal reflection, so you drew your dagger and see that you look like a male half-orc, the same orc you saw working with the others digging a ditch around the town.

Yorrick is still feeling uncomfortable, but speaks up. "I think that we are likely outnumbered. It doesn't matter how well trained our troops are if they have us two to one. We're going to have to do something more clever... I think that diverting the river is the only effective course of action. We can use the bought time to come up with something else that doesn't result in sending untrained workers to their deaths. Maybe our group could buy the town some time."

Yorrick stops speaking and his eyes drop to the ground as he fidgets with the various straps and vials that make up his gear.

"Yorrick, I've learned to trust your instincts. Perhaps diverting the river is the best way we can help. That would certainly surprise the orcs."
Mar 20, 2019 6:02 am
Ms. Fraught speaks up The Dire Wolves have always been a problem, but I doubt they will attack such large numbers of orcs. Even the biggest packs don't have more than twelve wolves. If they did, they couldn't find game big enough to feed the pack. We have 89 defenders. Men and women. 17 children and 9 too old to fight.

The simplist way would have been to delay them at the mountain pass that separates the wild lands to the north from The Imerald Empire, but a significant number have already passed through by now. It all depends on how quickly their scouts find our village. You could try and ambush their scouts but it will be difficult to pinpoint exactly which path the scouts will take. If only the rangers were here.
she sighs. Where is that damned drow when you need her? she swears and turns back to you.
I still think some drilling is better than no drilling. The townsfolk have been practicing for the past week or so. We'll also have to assign positions. My marines and I will guard the main gate on the north wall. Where do you think your team will work best? The Western wall, that's the longest wall, or the southern wall. That's only half as long.

Oli pipes up Jeremy and I can lay some traps on the southern wall to slow the enemy down. We can force them to focus on the West Wall.
Mar 20, 2019 8:34 am
"Sounds like the West wall for us, then." Ronda growls.
"I can help drill the militia, or help with diverting the river. Either one's better than standing around here, yapping!"

OOC:
Important question - did Moon change back? :D
Mar 20, 2019 11:11 am
OOC:
Yes, the moment you managed to convince the others of your real identity.
Mar 20, 2019 11:29 am
Duke agrees with Ronda I must agree. See what we can achieve there.
Mar 20, 2019 11:54 am
— I'm no ranger, but scouting is something within my abilities. I chime in. Not big on teaching though. Also - traps. Make some ditches, fill them with spikes and cover with grass. That should reduce their numbers...
Mar 20, 2019 5:34 pm
"How will we divert the river? That would help determine who goes or who stays here training. Also, is there any way we can get to their leader? My village has a saying, 'Remove the head. Remove the threat.'"
Mar 20, 2019 8:33 pm
Growing slightly more confident, "Stalwart is making sense. Causing confusion in the ranks through infighting or removal of leaders would improve our chances greatly. That said, Rhonda's got a point. We need to do something soon if something's to be done. It's a shame we don't have more time to prepare.

Shall we divide and conquer?"

OOC:
A few good options here people. As I see it you could either
A) help the workers divert the river
B) help to drill the workers
C) try and ambush the orc scouts to slow them down.
D) try and assassinate the leader of the orcs.

I'll let you discuss which option you think is best and then we'll take a vote.
Mar 22, 2019 8:41 am
"Well, who says we can't head out right now to crack some skulls?" Ronda emphasizes her point by slamming her fists together. Rousey squeaks - even the mouse seems eager for a fight.
OOC:
Given my character, I vote C or D.
Mar 22, 2019 9:48 am
Yes that does sound to be a good plan. Duke says to agree with Ronda.
Mar 22, 2019 3:47 pm
"With our crew, we can probably cause some real havoc among the ranks, but it would probably be a suicide mission." Yorrick smirks a bit. "It could be a lot of fun."
OOC:
Yorrick is literally up for anything proactive. Diverting the river is the most likely to work solution, but the aggressive tactics are likely higher reward for higher risk.
