Lol Ronda.

Just to clarify, I'm quite enjoying the strategy roleplay. It's Ronda that's bored by all the talking! :-D

OOC:
No worries. I have been in the same boat plenty of times before.

Every moment wasted talking is one less we have before first contact. We'd better get moving.

Let's see how well Nyx does...
Nyx leads you all north for about two hours, guessing that the orcs will be travelling faster that you and your party as they are all riding on horseback.

Unfortunately, the point where she stops and tells you to prepare your ambush is the most open section of beach you have seen on your journey.

You still have a little time before you think the orcs will arrive (perhaps 30 mins~1hour). What do you do to prepare your ambush?

Rolls

Survival - (1D20+5)

(2) + 5 = 7

Duke has carpentry tools with him but that is about it.

Do you want to jimmy something up?

"We could dig pit traps. Put spikes in the bottom. Do we have time, you think?"

"And ditches to hide in!"

Stalwart lends someone his shovel for digging. Stalwart uses his woodcarving proficiency to make spikes.

OOC:
can we assume caltrops we’re given to us as part of our traps?

@Ronda: as you know you have an hour.
@Stalwart: You had time to pick up any non-magical provisions that you like within reason.

If you wish to do some digging then give me some athletics checks please.

"Gimme that." Ronda takes the ahovel and starts digging.

Rolls

Athletics (advantage with help?) - (1d20+6, 1d20+6)

1d20+6 : (20) + 6 = 26

1d20+6 : (1) + 6 = 7

Be a help digging.

Rolls

OOC:
Can Moon lend her proficiency with trap-breaking to the this trap creation process?
There is this part for Theives Tools in XGE:
Quote:
Set a Trap. Just as you can disable traps, you can also set them. As part of a short rest, you can create a trap using items you have on hand. The total of your check becomes the DC for someone else’s attempt to discover or disable the trap. The trap deals damage appropriate to the materials used in crafting it (such as poison or a weapon) or damage equal to half the total of your check, whichever the DM deems appropriate.
Moon has Shoverl, Crowbar, 100ft of rope, Hammer and 9 pitons

OOC:
I'd imagine if you knew how to take a trap a part you must know something about putting one together. That works for me.

Stalwart would like the group to set up simple obstacles on the beach to try to funnel (or force) the orc scouts to the pit with spikes.

Rolls

Hunting and trapping (Survival) - (1d20+4)

(16) + 4 = 20

@Stalwart: you have 1 hour. How much time would you like to spend doing that?

OOC:
Asynchronous strategy is difficult, but here goes . .

According to Quora, it takes six hours for the average person to dig a grave that is 6 foot deep. Assuming an opening of 3 foot by 6 foot, we have a volume of 216 square feet. So, in one hour's time, one person should be able to dig a pit that has a volume that is one-sixth of that, or 36 square feet.

Our pit trap doesn't have to be that deep -- just disrupting the horses's movement and dismounting the riders would be enough given our time constraints. So one person can dig a pit 2 foot deep by 9 feet wide by 2 foot long. Ronda can dig this one on the path that the scouts will take on the beach. If the path is wider than 9 feet, this pit can be 1 foot deep by 18 feet wide by 2 feet long instead.

Stalwart will spend his time using his woodcarving skills to make spikes for the pit trap.

Yorrick, Moon, and Nyx can position traps to funnel the riders toward the pit trap.

Duke can dig another pit for the party to hide in that has is 6 foot long by 2 foot wide by 3 foot deep. However, Nyx and Moon probably want to hide elsewhere using their skills.

What does everyone think of this plan? Is anyone unaccounted for? Does the math make sense?
