"I'm ready, and I have a spell in mind to lend a hand to the chaos. Lead on, " says Gyges.

OOC:
It is dark, and some do not have darkvision. I assume out of the interest in secrecy, no one has lit a torch or used a Light spell.

As you proceed toward the camp, will you be taking the cart and horses?
Oct 1, 2018 6:28 pm
OOC:
Nevermind, I see that the plan calls for luring people away from the camp. Reizei, Maenor, and Gyges have indicated they will sneak forward, and I assume that Coda and Kalis are staying with the cart since they lack darkvision.

The three that are sneaking forward, roll me a Stealth check. Also, are you going towards the main camp, where Maenor found some hidden sentries, or somewhere else entirely?
Oct 1, 2018 9:19 pm
OOC:
I imagine us circumnavigating the camp around the outskirts until we find a location suitable for our plan. The hidden sentries would be our first targets, and then we would work our way closer to the camp itself.

That's just what I envisioned. I'm happy to adjust if anyone else has another/better approach.

Edit: Yikes...

Maenor winces at his fellow Elf's attempts at stealth.

I was thinking about getting close enough so I could use Message.

Kalis and Coda wait by the wagon, and can hear the trio trudging out into the darkness. Their footfalls fade as they traverse the desert, until they can no longer be heard.

As Maenor, Gyges, and Reizei approach the last-known location of the sentries, they come to approximately 120 feet from the hunting blind. Unfortunately, they are unable to visually confirm its presence at this distance.
OOC:
How close did you want to get? Note that while 120 feet is the range for the Message spell, Gyges does have to point his finger towards the target... and he doesn't know exactly where that target is. Maenor could give approximate direction and distance, and if that's the case, I might allow the spell to work with a spell attack roll.

Otherwise, what's the plan?

Reizei gives Maenor a gentle nudge. Once having gotten the elf's attention, he gives him an exaggerated shrug and points, as to indicate the need for directional information.
Oct 5, 2018 11:38 pm
Maenor points in the direction he remembers, best as he is able. He peers into the darkness to watch for any movement.

Rolls

perception - (1d20+6)

(20) + 6 = 26

Oct 7, 2018 1:45 pm
Reizei freezes in place and stares hard in the direction Maenor indicates. Already feeling silly for clunking through the dark like a rampant Umber Hulk, the half-elf worries the sentries may already be alerted to their approach. He controls his breathing and listens for movement as he peers into the night.

Rolls

Perception - (1D20+5)

(6) + 5 = 11

Oct 7, 2018 4:50 pm
Maenor easily remembers where the hunting blind was, down to the exact distance in feet (120). Expanding his senses into the darkness, he detects no movement and no sound. It is as if the wind itself had died down.

Reizei senses the same as Maenor, though perhaps for different reasons.
Oct 10, 2018 5:09 pm
OOC:
Are you going to approach closer? If so, give me another round of Stealth checks.
Oct 10, 2018 8:56 pm
Noting the direction indicated by Maenor, Reizei heads off. Moving as stealthily as possible, he nevertheless keeps his head on a swivel. The Half Elf is concerned the sentry may have relocated or, worse, is aware of them after his own inept clunking about, and is, even now, circling around to ambush their ambush.
OOC:
2 is better than 1, right?....right? /goodgrief!

Rolls

Stealth - (1d20+3)

(2) + 3 = 5

Perception - (1d20+5)

(17) + 5 = 22

Oct 10, 2018 11:05 pm
The crunch of dry desert grass and dirt is audible in the clear night. Reizei maneuvers until he is 60 feet from the spot indicated by Maenor, and can now see something resembling a hunting blind in the far distance of his darkvision.

He then hears a voice hiss, "Hands up, scum," followed by the telltale sound of a crossbow bolt being drawn. The voice comes from his left, and looking there Reizei spies an elf crouched by some brush, aiming a crossbow at him.
Oct 11, 2018 10:06 am
Reizei winces and begins slowly raising his hands. As he does so he mutters a few arcane words under his breath.
OOC:
Cast Minor Illusion to make a voice right behind the elf say "Drop it!"

If the elf with the crossbow turns, Reizei will rush him with flail and shield leading the way.
Oct 11, 2018 3:54 pm
The elf whirls around, firing his crossbow bolt into the night.
OOC:
Minor Illusion requires only somatic and material components; no arcane words necessary.

I'd make you roll a Sleight of Hand check to see if you could pull off the casting, but I just rolled a 2 for Insight so you're good. Make your attack roll.
Oct 11, 2018 8:05 pm
Reizei charges as the elf spins. Hoping to subdue his opponent with slightly less noise than he's been making, he aims the downward ac of his flail at the guard's head.
OOC:
OK, seriously. Either I'm being punked, or this guy deserves to die for his unsurpassable levels of ineptness. Last three rolls are 1, 2, and 1.

(1) + 6 = 7

Damage - (1d8+4)

(5) + 4 = 9

OOC:
Hey, go easy on him. He just saw a bunch of his friends die and was left for dead himself. Probably a bit rattled. :)

Roll for initiative?
Oct 12, 2018 5:40 am
OOC:
No need for initiative. Anyone else that wants to do something can act this turn, then it will be the sentry's.
Oct 14, 2018 9:17 am
Maenor quietly calls upon his deity and then rushes in to join his companion.
OOC:
Casting Silence centred on the scout, then full movement toward them.
