Hi everyone,

It would be nice to be able to tailor the campaign to you guys a bit. Questions:

1. Have you ever played this campaign before? If yes, how far did you get?

2. What's your preferred play style or favorite part of RPGs?

I don't believe I've played this one before, no.

As for preferred play style, I like a nice blend between RP and combat but really am NOT a fan of mystery components as much largely because I'm not good at them as a person, so they end up frustrating me rather than making a game engaging and an escape from the real world.

I have, to my knowledge, never played this adventure before.

I'm not sure how to describe my play style...I like all aspects generally. I guess I'd say I like to play out cool action scenes and have good character moments.

1) I haven't played this adventure yet.

2) I like a mix of hack and slash and of roll playing. Doesn't have to be equal parts but, I would like a little of each at least.

Hello everyone, I should just throw this out on the line as well. This is my first play by post, so If I break any social rules just let me know.

So have I played Shackled city? Nope, but I have heard of it and know very little details on it other than it was a blueprint for every adventure path Paizo came out with after.

Whats my preferred style? I'd be lying if I said I wasn't into hack and slash but I also LOVE "in character" discussions, banter and making moral choices. What I dislike just in case you need to know are puzzles/riddles not really clever enough to figure them out or large-scale combat involving armies.

Mine too! Glad you're here on this adventure with me. =)

It sounds like the campaign will suit you all really well. I'm really excited about the character ideas you're coming up with. I just accepted our 6th player today, so as soon as you all have your characters ready to go, we'll get started!

I'm old! I have done play by post (even did forum RP, like, 20 years ago).

I have not done play by post in a while and have no knowledge of this module beyond what I have learned during character creation.

Oh! Preferred style is for sure a mix, if I just wanted combat the simulation there's other games for that (which are also fun).

Hi everyone! Just joined the game. This is my very first Pathfinder game. So please be patient. I may have a lot of questions about mechanics.

1. As I've said never played Pathfinder so no.

2. I like a good mix of RP and combatting.

Hiya

Same as Twoton above, first Pathfinder game. But I'm very familiar with the D&D games, ever since the TSR redbox days.
As far as the Pathfinder system, sofar it reminds me of a more complex, (and maybe a little unwieldy, but also mechanically richer and more detailed) alternative to 5e, with still a lot of elements from 3.5e. Now, I always was under the impression that Pathfinder would be a "wilder", more deadly and hardcore way to tackle the D&D genre (I dunno why, I just was), not sure how far from the truth that is... if I trust our DM this campaign at least should be pretty tough. I'm game either way.
As far as playing style, you may have guessed it: I like to write, which is why I favor play-by-post over direct voice chat or tabletop. So be prepared for long, gushing, descriptive posts (well, mostly: no use to overdo it either!). I am very much into in-character roleplaying, but don't mind the old-fashioned head bashing once in a while.

Just finishing my char as we speak, looking forward to the game !

p.s: never played the module before either

I've been playing Pathfinder ever since the first playtest. When it started, it was just a few variations on 3.5E. It's evolved to become quite a beast. I pretty much ignore all the "extra" stuff like character archetypes, hybrid classes, extra classes, fancy races, etc. etc. and stick to the core races and classes. I'm just a bit of a traditionalist in that way.

I've never seen it as wilder or more deadly; it's always just been a variation of 3.5/d20 to me. But the campaign -- the campaign is deadly. I have never had a group finish. Every one TPK'd. Some groups tried several times with different variations, and others tried once and then we moved on to something else. There are 12 chapters. My most successful group made it to Chapter 5. I hope you guys will be the first!!!

Here's my advice: I'll do my best to make it obvious when something particularly dangerous is coming. Usually there is one deadly encounter in each chapter. They're NOT usually the "boss fight" encounter. Take your time to prepare for each excursion -- know what you're up against and make ample preparations.

And... I hope you're not offended by my DM style -- I'm NOT a big gushy roleplayer. I'll be a descriptive, but I'm much more of a to-the-point sort of gal.

Hey Twotonkatrucks and Ashdrunbar! Welcome to the party. Pathfinder 1st edition can be a beast of rules. I've been playing it for 8 years and D&D 3.5, 6 years prior. I still find rules I didn't know existed.

I have some good experience with this system, so any question you may have I'll be most likely to answer for you.

good to know, man, I'm sure we'll have plenty of occasions to get some ruling point or other cleared up. And luckily our DM's not intent on having us all killed, at least not yet *evil grin* so I trust both of you and your respective knowledge(s) of said-"beast".
My biggest concern is to not be able to use a rule to make the best strategical decision possible in any given situation... not because I don't understand said-rule, but because I don't know about it. But hey, part of the whole fun, I guess.

As far as our DM's descriptive abilities, I think the whole forum speaks for itself: I think this should be a grand ole game,as they say.

I'm pretty flexible as a GM. If you clearly state what you're trying to do, I will let you know what your options are. I err on the side of the players in most cases, and give the benefit of the doubt when there's question about the rules.

Hey everyone! I am a little late to the party, so playing a little catch-up here.

1. I am new to Pathfinder, but picking up the details quickly. I am completely unfamiliar with the campaign.

2. I like having memorable unexpected character moments, so I lean pretty heavily into the RP but I never take it too seriously (otherwise you can miss out on some fun). I also like tactical fights, where the party takes advantage of what they know to gain an advantage.

Hello Pryde, I'm new here as well

Hey new folks, welcome again and don't get alarmed if things are a little slow on the threads, seems like we have a few players and the DM with some real-life demands taking their time right now, but rest assured things will probably pick up soon.

If anyone feels like having some fun and introducing your characters and like a bit of creative writing, feel free to add some of your diaries to the PC Notes & Journal Thread, you'll see I've tried my hand (and pen) with that as well.

As far as Pathfinder, this is also my first game using the system (although I'm very familiar with D&D in general), sofar I find it a lot more detailed but also (logically) a bit less easy to wield as the 5th edition: a LOT of rules about a lot of things ! But rest easy, the learning curve has been very smooth sofar (and I reckon the others can back me on that...?).

Main things to remember in combat: in this system Dexterity mod doesn't apply to ranged weapons damage (as it does in 5e), non-lethal combat rolls attacks with a -4 (making it a little harder when you choose to overpower an opponent instead of actually killing him/her), and a bunch of other stuff remains closer to the 3.5 edition than the more fluid and a little more generic rules of 5e.
In doubt, ask LadyBrash our august DM, who will be more than happy to clear things for you.

Enjoy and see y'all soon in-game !

Hello AD, I'm completely fine with any pace a given game takes. I'll probably write up something about Fergus soon!
