Keavan gets back to the inn as the others are gathering.

Midnight will be most comfortable in a middle-type position, preferably surrounded by meat and metal.Last edited August 21, 2018 2:28 pm

Just a suggestion: Keavan and Falka up front, followed by Breezy and Midnight in the middle, with Yohna and Vardo guarding the rear.Last edited August 21, 2018 2:29 pm

OOC:
While we wait for Falka, can I double check passive perception for each of you?Keavan - 13
Midnight - 11
Breezy - 10
Vardo - 15
Yohna - 15
Falka - 12
Also, any specific strategy you guys wanna take in tracking down (or luring) the bandits? Otherwise, I'll just assume you guys will start traveling along the Cairn Road blindly looking for clues.

Falka feels the eyes of companions boring into the back of her head without seeing them. "Worry not friend, yesterday evening was perfect entertainment." she smiles. "Haven't had such proper tavern banter since I left the hold. Unfortunately, I've got a date with some bandits today. When I come back drinks are on me. And tell the orc to train, for I'll be challenging him to fisticuffs on my return."
OOC:
In terms of marching order, I think the two heavies - ie Keavan and Falka - should be at the front and back with everyone else in the middle, or possibly Vardo scouting ahead. Falka should probably be at the front, given that its the most likely direction of attack, and Keavan is faster than Falka, so it's less of a disadvantage for him to have to move if we are attacked from the front.Aug 21, 2018 5:16 pm
twotonkatrucks says:
Breezy, FYI Midnight, Falka, Yohna, and Vardo are all at the inn, not the tavern. We're just waiting on Keavan (and Falka to finish her interaction with Mort).OOC:
Did you not see my perception roll??? Breezy pretty much blows past everyone, not noticing a damn thing. :D:D:D
Breezy is not sure why he felt it important to speak out his abilities, but spill it he did. Looking at the wide road before them, he also was not sure why they had to march in a strict order, but decided against second guessing his more experienced companions.

OOC:
So everyone agrees on Midnight and Breezy being in the middle. How about we go with Vardo's suggestion as the default since there's at least two votes for that. You guys can always adjust it per scenario.
But, I'll assume Keavan and Falka up front, Breezy and Midnight in the middle, and Yohna, Vardo in the rear unless otherwise stated.
I'll wait a bit longer for any other strategic discussion to be had then we can set the stage for the bounty hunt.

As Yohna watches the group come together to discuss their approach, she turns to Keavan and announces: "Keavan, did you learn anything that might give us a clue as to where the bandits are camped, or where we can expect them? It's all well and good to just wander the Cairn Road 'till they attack, but we'd stand a better chance if we had a battlefield in mind."
OOC:
I'm okay with this order, and all ready to set out when everyone else is.Aug 21, 2018 9:35 pm
"Nothing useful, surviving witnesses haven't been all that coherent.
Attacks seem to be spread out, possibly so as to not pinpoint a location."

"I see... How troublesome." The cleric muses, tapping her chin in thought. "Well, if we must go in blind, best we do it while daylight persists. Although... Mayhaps we should check the hills off of the path once we reach them. They seem to be perfect territory for a large encampment."

The party sets off on the Cairn Road around midday. As the farmlands transition into wooded wilderness, what started off as a clear pleasant afternoon turns into dark gray overcast, followed by light drizzle. After several hours of walking in the damp and softened road, as the feeling of restlessness start to settle in and unsure how much longer they should travel down before turning back, the party spies a lump of something on the side of the road about 70 feet ahead. As the party carefully move in closer, the lump soon reveals itself to be a rotting carcass of a horse.
Please consult the map if you wish.
OOC:
I figured we can start. Let me know what everyone intends to do. I've also marked where on the map you are via the wagon token. Please consult the map if you wish.

Vardo freezes, draws his bow, nocks and arrow, and scans the treeline.

Trusting his more experienced comrade Vardo, Breezy follows suit by drawing and loading his crossbow. Not wanting to be caught in a group, he slowly side steps off to the right, getting a different angle on the carcass. His eyes roam left to right, up and down, looking for any sign of elementals or other fey creatures wishing to do them harm. Barring that, he will also take note of any potential non-celestial would-be attackers.

As Vardo scans the treeline on each side of the road, he spots a peculiar looking narrow branch on one of the trees near the carcass (on the northern side), about 5-6 feet from the ground. The branch, at least from his current position looks a bit too "straight".
OOC:
I think your passive perception would apply here. Also, the party is about 40 feet from the carcass at the moment.Aug 22, 2018 2:04 am
OOC:
Breezy doesn't see anything out of the ordinary (except the carcass of course).Aug 22, 2018 2:11 am
"Pssst..." Vardo gives a short low warning and whispers, "Something's off here." He inclines his chin toward the "straight" branch. "Caution is warranted."
Aug 22, 2018 5:06 am
Midnight takes a deep breath, closes her eyes for just a moment to center herself, and grips her staff just a bit tighter. "A trap? Hmm." She narrows her eyes in concentration, looking at the carcass and the nearby tree, to determine exactly what's "not quite right" about it.
OOC:
I'd like to make an Investigation check from a safe distance to determine if it is indeed a trap, and if so how it's constructed.Rolls
