"Agreed." Vardo nods his assent as they continue into town.
OOC:
So back to town and go about our business (as outlined by Bleak) until the evening when, if the group is in agreement and as long as we aren't on to something more pressing, we will meet up with our new friend to plomb more information.

Keavan examines the three closely, his interest piqued by the man's comment and his companions unseasonal attire.
OOC:
What should I roll? Wanting to see what race they are, whether they seem rich or poor, are the two guarding him? That kind of stuff.

OOC:
The pale skinned man has on garb of a noble, but the clothes seem a little aged/tattered - like they weren't kept well. The two robed figures are definitely humanoid but it's impossible to tell what race they are, underneath the robes. You can't even tell whether they are carrying a weapon underneath.

Okay. We're going to fast forward to night time. If there's any lingering issues or actions you want to take we can rewind and adjudicate that after.
After dinner at the inn, everyone regroups at the Helm with order of ale, juice, or mead in front of you. Vardo and Yohna updates everyone about their investigation. Breezy and Keavan mentions the odd fortune teller they met at the market. Shortly after the exchange, the party sees the quarry worker Vardo and Yohna mentioned walk into the tavern. He sees Yohna and approaches the party. He looks around a bit furtively. After he' satisfied that there's no one he recognizes from the quarry he sits down with the party.

"So what would you like to ask me?"
Sep 16, 2018 5:50 am
Breezy defers to his companions, who know who this fellow is and what questions have been asked and answered already. He, however, is mulling over who, or what, this Eye being is. The more he thinks, the more uneasy he feels about things here in Red Larch.

Bleak says:
OOC:
I like how, every now and again, breezy comes out with these spectacular feats of opportune knowledge.
OOC:
It's like this little voice in the back of his mind says... 'Oh, by the way....'

Vardo eyes up the man then starts in, "It's not that we necessarily have a specific question," he smiles disarmingly. "Rather, I've overheard, quite accidentally you understand, a few snippets of conversation and have read the tension in the body language of you and a few of your associates."

He twirls his wrist in a casual gesture, "And although it could be interpreted as everyday stress of work and family, I have reason to believe it's more than that. That, perhaps, you are privy to information about potentially serious goings on that affect the town as a whole."

Vardo makes an immediate calming gesture with both hands and smiles again, "I'm sure, in no small part due to your willingness to meet with us, that you are a decent person. Perhaps you are in over your head or maybe you just know more than is comfortable. Regardless, you may rest assured we wish you no ill will and are not out to cause you grief in any way. However, if there is something you can tell us about what is going on here, we would be most appreciative."

The elf pauses, lets the man catch up his thoughts, then adds, "We only want to help. Will you let us?"

Well done on the Persuasion!
Sep 16, 2018 10:24 pm
Vardo's calm demeanor seems to have eased the man.

"Your suspicions are well-placed. Few of my fellow quarrymen have had experiences that are not easily explained. I've tried to tell myself that it's just an overactive imagination on their part, but I'm starting to question things myself. Like, the way Al has been acting, small things - like making decisions that don't make much business sense. And I assure you it's not because of an innate deficiency in the mind. She's always been shrewd. At least used to be..."

"You may have heard rumors of sightings of stone-faced men near the quarry. Such sightings have become common enough that good number of the nightshift workers have quit. Including my pal Marty. The odd thing though - as if apparitions of stone faced men aren't odd enough - Al hasn't tried to replace the workers she lost. I'm not talking about having difficulty finding men willing to work the nightshift - even with the rumors there's no shortage of willing young men, it's good money especially the nightshift. It's that she hasn't tried at all. Not any serious attempts to recruit anyways. And that nightshift work is important to keep pace with the competition. You no doubt noticed we have another quarry to the south. An older operation run by Elak Dornen, something of a bigwig around here. I tell ya, we used to give them the run for their money. But, something's changed. I dunno, maybe she wants to retire and sell the business or something but she's not acting like someone running a successful business. She's even been turning down potential clients. Especially, those that show even passive curiosity about the rumors. And she's been keeping odd company of late - not the least of which, Dornen himself. But, people like Ilmeth Waelvur and Luruth the tanner. She's been passing it off as purely business related. But, I'm not sure. I mean Dornen sure. But what business would she have with Waelvur? He's a drunk that can barely keep his wagon business afloat - esp. when Thelorn's the competition. I'm just a simple man, but even I can tell there's more to it than that. It's like there's a secret club or something."

"I need to get more metal, ssso maybe I work the late ssshift too? Leave here, go to the quarry. If workersss ssshow up to be hired, doesss ssshe turn them away too? Or jussst doesss not recruit?" Breezy interjects.

"Or maybe we go night hunting? Look for beassstsss that might harm folksss. Near the quarry, of courssse.
Sep 17, 2018 2:25 am
"I'm sorry to say blue one, that you'll have quite a difficult time convincing her. At least she hasn't hired anyone new in quite some time now. Since this whole odd affair started really."
Sep 17, 2018 3:07 am
"Weird. There's definitely something going on." Midnight shudders. "Sounds to me like she's trying to hide something that's going on at night. She wants to scare the night workers away. That's why she isn't hiring anyone new." To Breezy, she adds, "Hunting would be much more interesting."
Sep 17, 2018 10:51 am
"That corroborates and indeed expands on what I have managed to gather, this 'Al', definately up to something.

I have a couple of other leads, apparently the local tanner, Luruthn is also acting suspiciously.

We could also talk to Minny, it seems she is the eyes and ears of this town, runs a local poultry shop.

Finally, Vallivoe is alleged to have ties to the Harpers.
So may have a separate agenda, but the Harper's are reputed to have excellent intelligence networks, so there's may be something useful there."
Sep 17, 2018 8:54 pm
"Vallivoe may well be a good starting place. Given that we are about to insert ourselves into someone's secrets, and that we have no idea how big this is or how all is involved, I'd suggest we stick together while we investigate. Separate, we are too easy to pick off and use against one another."
Sep 17, 2018 9:41 pm
As the party mull over their next move, tavern doors suddenly swing open with a loud bang. A young farm boy with a horrified look on his face collapses in front of the door way. Only words he can muster is "Harlo... They... Those... things... took him."
Sep 17, 2018 10:08 pm
"Sit down, breathe."
Keavan pulls out a chair for the boy and signals for a drink for him.
"What did you see?"
Sep 17, 2018 10:16 pm
Intent on the conversation, Yohna is quite startled when the door bursts open, just as she is about to give her two coppers on the situation. Her attention is quickly snatched away and she approaches the boy with Keavan, kneeling by him. Despite her kindly stance, her eyes are narrowed.

"Steady now. Relax, you're safe here. Take a drink, then tell us what happened and where. No one can help Harlo if you're panicking." She reassures him.

The barkeep brings the boy some mulberry juice. The boy seems to respond to Yohna's nurturing hands.

"I... I was having dinner over at Belkin's place. I sometime help Harlo with his chores around the farm. See, Harlo had bought this charm necklace at the marketplace today to give to the Missus. While we were at dinner, the charm began to flash brightly - soon after, there was a knock at the door. Harlo's quick thinking saved our lives. He had us - me, Mrs. Belkin, and Andrea - hide underneath the bed. I couldn't see their faces but I saw three figures barging into the house. Two wore robes that went all the way down to the floor. Harlo yelled at them, You? What are you doing here? The third figure responded, Your flesh has been chosen by the all-knowing Eye - to serve me, the Lord of Lance Rock! Come my child. There was a finger snap and I can see one of the robed figures approach Harlo. Then... Harlo just drops. We could see from underneath the bed, his wide eyes... the terror in those eyes... He was struggling to move, but he couldn't. The other figure then just grabbed him over its shoulder, like Harlo was a ragdoll. Then I glimpsed it. The milky white eyes... It could not have belonged to a human. It was all we could do to not scream our lungs out. After they left, I told the Mrs. and Andrea to stay hidden and I ran as fast as I can here. Please you have to help Harlo! I don't know what those things are going to do to him! Someone please, help us!" The boy starts to weep.

"It ssseemsss we have found the Eye the ssstrange one ssspoke of." Breezy says in reply. Before he has finished speaking, he is standing, ready to head out and investigate what is going on.
Sep 18, 2018 3:27 am
Midnight moves over next to the boy and gently rubs his back while making images of sparkly wooden toys to try to calm and relax him. To everyone else, she asks "Where is Lance Rock? Is it nearby?"
