Character Creation

Ok...I have figured out my character. She's a bit of an overlap in that we have a lot of casters, but I hopefully have a niche for her on the team. She is a Kalashtar dual class hexblade wralock/enchanter wizard. She was a teen wannabe witch but found out the hard way that magic is real. Now she seeks to end the specific threat of the Quori, and will use her status as a Lock Agent to research her enemies.

Because she is multiclassed, she isn't the most powerful caster, but she has resources at her disposal that make her interesting, I think.

Overlap indeed. Great minds must think alike. Even the same background and weapons ;)

I think we're different enough but if you don't like the degree of overlap, or if the group is worried about diversification, I can fiddle around with something else.

No... I'm okay with it. I'm sort of thinking she might be "team mascot" material. I don't think it is a problem just pointing out I see the overlap. She's going to be weird...like Luna Lovegood or Harley Quinn...without being annoying I hope.

I’m taking fighter as my first level to reflect the purpose my character was originally created for, but once he woke up in the modern world he started taking wizard levels.

Starting to get those character sheets in, digging everybody's concepts. Don't feel rushed if you are still fine tuning them, better to think on a decision then act rashly.

For spell overlap I do encourage variety so that all bases are covered and a wider approach can be considered, sometimes spells are too good to pass (Bless comes to mind). Keep in mind we technically have two hackers as well, gonna have to make sure there are sufficient opportunities in that department.

If I'm overlapping with two different characters, I can just switch to something else if it helps the team (and the story) more.

I'm still fine-tuning my robot druid I am going with the concept that this thing was built as a spy/infiltrator. So Spy background. I have traded the druid's Herbalism kit proficiency for Hacking Kit proficiency. As for spellcasting, I don't see this guy casting a lot of spells although they will be there, they will mostly be utility and maybe some buffs. In combat he will be wildshaped. Somebox, will you allow Shillelagh to work on something else instead of the classic wooden club or quarterstaff? I'm not trying to gain a mechanical advantage, I just want to be thematically consistent. I don't mind even if it's restricted to a specific metal weapon like a specific baton, or one of his fists or something. What do you guys think is cool, thematically appropriate, but not OP?

If this were my game, I would say it has to be made of "pure" metal to work, no alloys or carbon filament mumbo jumbo. And even then, just the stiking portion...or head of the weapon. I never understood the idea that druids disliked metal since it is naturally occuring. Suits of armor tend to be alloys I guess...so that makes some sense, but a hunk of iron that has been melted down and reconfigured into a stick (club or baton) seems fine by me.

I think there's definitely room for a modern Druid in a game like this. I'd have no problem at all with shillelagh working on batons or his fist. If a Druid can be a machine, then the traditional ways of looking at Druids don't apply. And I don't see that as being necessarily a bad thing. In fact, in this type of game, I see it as being a very cool thing. I love Jabe's character build and think his suggestion is fully in keeping with both his character and the tone of the game.

Just my 2 cents.

Yes you can go for it Jabes, replace the quarterstaff/club with two thematic weapons or reflavor things like the baton while keeping the weapon properties (light, one-handed etc.)

Thanks! Stun baton shillelagh acceptable?

A question about AC:

Standard Wildshape text says: "You retain the benefit of any features from your class, race, or other source and can use them if the new form is physically capable of doing so."

Racial feature: Integrated Protection - Composite Plating: "AC=13+DEX+prof."

Subclass feature: Metal Wildshape: "Whenever you use your Wild Shape feature, your shape is made with metal and pieces of the city, more similar to a construct than a beast. While transformed into a beast, your AC increases by your proficiency bonus and the Constitution score of the shape increases by 2. "

So when transformed into a metal beast is my AC computed thus: 13 + beast's DEX + proficiency (from racial feature) + proficiency again (from subclass feature)?

Your math looks right for wild shaping, basically just adding chunks of extra armor on top of the Warforged's Integrated Protection. Using the stun baton seems fine, Shillelagh stacks with weapons that have extra effects right? (+1, extra damage, etc.) Would be the same boat.

somebox says:
One more thing, can you include a backstory as well as your traits on the character sheet? You might still be working out the details, it will help me integrate them into the world, plus everyone else will get a better idea of your character and how they will react.
Well his story is very uncomplicated: Rodrigo was raised by Lock. He is told he was found in the dumpster behind HQ - whether or not this is true he has no idea but he has no reason to doubt Lock's leadership. As soon as he was old enough he began his training. He is motivated by his absolute faith in the organization and ambition to rise through the ranks.

Trait: I never let emotion complicate work.
Ideal: Power: I hope to one day rise to the top of my agency's hierarchy.
Ideal: Faith: I trust that my superiors will guide my actions, I have faith that if I work hard, things will go well.
Bond: I will do anything to protect the agency where I serve.
Flaw: I’m overly concerned with following established procedures and protocols.

Thank you, @somebox, I have corrected the errors.

I have also changed some of the items in the explorer's pack to modernize them:
* tinderbox = lighter,
* waterskin = water canteen,
* bedroll = sleeping bag
* 10 torches = discard, or can they be 10 light sticks?

I am still in the process of spell selection and finalizing my back story (don't worry, it's nothing complicated) but other than that I think I'm ready.

EDIT:
So is the existence of Lock itself a secret from the public just like the MIB and the Bureau of Paranormal Research and Defense?

I assume people in this world aren't walking around armed to the teeth like they would in your usual fantasy setting? So do we need concealed carry for all weapons, or has the glamour got that covered?

My background is done.

I'm good to go.

You don't need to discard them. Maybe torches could be a flare or something similar, to retain the whole fire-aspect. Alternatively you could buy a flashlight if that seems more appropriate.

Lock is indeed a secret to the public, all inquiries regarding strange phenomenon to official government employees are met with denial.
The general populace isn't armed, and fantastical creatures use glamour to obscure them from the public (keeping it in line with other disguise/invisibility spells). Obviously this means all of you will still be able to see them and vice versa.
