Round 1 Summary
The armored man's sword dives at Alalla's face, but in a flash she drops Halla and blocks with her glaive, but she feels the heat of the magic sword warm her face as she pushes the weapon away.
"Not bad! You've probably earned the magical items in your possession, but now me and mine claim them!"
Ug's icy maul cracks against the man, but he stands strong, then retaliates with two swipes of his sword that burn as they cut across the goliath's chest (
After resistance, Ug takes 16 slashing and 17 fire damage).
Fergy's spell begins to congeal the air around the man, but then his magic fizzles and fades. The dwarf sorcerer looks past the strong man to see a middle-aged woman in star-encrusted blue robe appear from thin air, hands outstretched to squelch the slow spell (
Wizard casts Counterspell against Fergy's Slow). The woman calls out, sounding almost bored.
"I doubt the elf could have paid us if he wanted to, but he said we're more than welcome to help ourselves to your equipment." She pulls a glass bead from a pocket and chants a powerful defensive ward, a spell that creates a large bubble around her meant to block unwanted magical spells (
Casts Globe of Invulnerability).
[ +- ] Globe of Invulnerability
An immobile, faintly shimmering barrier springs into existence in a 10-foot radius around you and remains for the duration (concentration, up to 1 minute).
Any spell of 5th level or lower cast from outside the barrier can't affect creatures or objects within it, even if the spell is cast using a higher level spell slot. Such a spell can target creatures and objects within the barrier, but the spell has no effect on them. Similarly, the area within the barrier is excluded from the areas affected by such spells.
Two men (
Archers 1 and 2) appear next to the wizardess, within the bubble. They aim longbows at those on the airship, peppering Ras and Erevain with arrows that crackle with lightning. As each arrow strikes home, gnome and elf feel electricity threaten to overwhelm their senses (
Ras takes 22 piercing and lightning damage, and Erevain takes 34. Both must make one DC 11 Constitution saving throw or be paralyzed for 1 minute).
Erevain gasps as the arrows pierce his splint mail. He raises one hand and mutters a spell that distorts the air around him, Ras, and Fergy, hoping to disrupt any more nasty arrows that come their way (
Erevain casts Warding Wind).
[ +- ] Warding Wind
A strong wind (20 miles per hour) blows around you in a 10-foot radius and moves with you, remaining centered on you. The wind lasts for the spell’s duration.
The wind has the following effects:
• It deafens you and other creatures in its area.
• It extinguishes unprotected flames in its area that are torch-sized or smaller.
• It hedges out vapor, gas, and fog that can be dispersed by strong wind.
• The area is difficult terrain for creatures other than you.
• The attack rolls of ranged weapon attacks have disadvantage if the attacks pass in or out of the wind.
Nearby, Halla gets to her feet with a wry grin.
"That white cloak does look nice." Her voice... sounds like a he. That isn't Halla. Her form ripples until a slender blonde man with a rather ridiculous mustache (
Bard) stands in her stead. He hums a quick melody and snaps his fingers along to the beat, then points one finger at Alalla.
"That's right, I am no woman! How very SHREWd of you!" Alalla feels her skin tingle, but nothing else seems to happen (
Al passes her save vs polymorph). The blonde man slaps a hand to his forehead.
"Ugh. That normally works. Well. Woe is me, I suppose." He takes several long strides away from the people with pointy objects.
The strong man looks incredibly pleased with himself and the reinforcements that have joined him - until Alalla's glaive nearly removes one of his ears. The shield comes up, and he falls into a defensive stance, carefully taking Alalla's measure (
Strong man is frightened this coming turn).
