Ug realizes his size doesn’t seem to matter as much in this cursed place. He steadies himself and takes measures swibgs this time. The cold rage is still coursing through his veins, but he maintains a more defensive stance than full on assault.

hunger takes 15 bludgeoning and 1 cold damage. Ug is raging but not reckless.

Round 1 Summary

The figure presses forward to Ras, attracted to the healing magic the gnome used. Ug smashes the thing with his hammer, but even this enchanted weapon seems weighed down by the darkness surrounding this creature. It seems as though shadow protects this creature form injury. Erevain's strike against to also seems less effective than it should be (It currently resists bludgeoning, piercing, and slashing damage, even from magically weapons).

Ras' attempt to conjure plants to entangle the creature fails. Perhaps he is hindered the same way as Zenithral was in trying to summon Fluphy. Some spells do not seem to work properly in this place. Fergy's invisibility spell does work, however, and Ras fades from view.

As the gnome disappears, the creature shrieks again, deprived of what it wanted above all else. Its vaguely elf-like ears flap a spell it's impossibly wide mouth bites down on Erevain's shoulder with sudden ferocity (Erevain takes 59 slashing and psychic damage), and its claws spear through Ug's arm and hold the barbarian tight (After resistance Ug takes 20 slashing damage and is grappled and restrained). Erevain gasps in pain and retreats back to wait by Alalla, not noticing until too late that the thing - eerily strong for its size - is dragging the barbarian farther away from the party.

A crack of thunder sounds as the thing stalks away, the residual magic of Erevain's spell slamming into it (it takes 19 thunder damage). It doesn't seem to care.

Alalla feels the effects of the madness that gripped her fade away, and she finds the party combatting this uncanny foe.

Round 2 Player Phase!!
OOC:
This thing is a butt. A DC 15 Arcana/Religion/Medicine check will give you the exact details of how its abilities work, but that will take an action to figure out. But everyone does recognize that it is attracted to healing magic (and perhaps other things). It also currently resists weapon damage, but it did take full damage from the cold/force/thunder damage that was used against it.
[ +- ] Life Hunger
[ +- ] Damage Resistances
Zen gets 2 turns!

Al is no longer stunned!

Ug is grappled and restrained (attacks against him have advantage, and he has disadvantage on attacks). Breaking free of would entail either using your action to Escape (Athletics check DC 16) or to use one of your attacks to Shove it away from you (you each roll Athletics we see who wins).

Alalla can only watch as Erevain takes a great wound and Ug is dragged away.

Do something. Do SOMETHING. Alalla's feet finally connect to her brain again and uses her glaive to pull herself to a stand. She staggers toward the creature, preparing to stab at it with her glaive, but as she moves to strike she registers the monster's preference for darkness.

Al drops her glaive mid strike, wasting her attack and fumbles for her new sword. She draws it and ignites its blade, and the sudden light shocks her still recovering mind. Her vision clears quickly, however, and then she strikes hard and true.

"Release him!" Al shouts as steel and flame bite into the creature.

There is now 40ft of bright light around Al, and 40ft of dim light past that. The Hungry takes 16 slashing and 5 fire damage, and must make a strength save or release Ug.

The previous night, Zenithral tried interacting with the children. Now outside of the Hand, he summons Fluphy.

Are you alright? Zenithral asks the Flumph. After explaining what happened, he asks it a question. Can you circumvent the language barrier with telepathy? If so, can you speak to the children? Give a friendly greeting or something?
Oct 2, 2018 12:34 am
Quote:
"One subject at a time," Al says, holding up her hands. "Zenithral, Jermsy is barely cared for and he's human. Besides, you can't just turn them over to anyone. Even if they don't mean any harm, they are dangerous."
Zenithral frowns and nods a few times in agreement. "Well, at the moment, perhaps Halla can care for them. She seems to have a fondness for them," he says, glancing back at her and the children. "After that...I...Hm...Perhaps if we could use Orrick's Helm of Teleportation, my grandmother...wait, Orrick...he's supposed to be here! Ugh...We'll just have to hope he's alright. He' certainly seems powerful enough, but with magic as distorted as it is here..."

"I don't think Halla will mind watching them while we investigate the tower, and your grandmother seems a good option for the long term, if she will take them. As for Orrick," Al sighs, "we can't take care of everybody."

Al runs a hand through her hair again. "Belhifet. That must be Poquelin. What is his game, siring children? I'll eat my sword if he isn't the father, and this isn't part of his plot."

Her eyebrows come together, her left one barely peeking out from behind her eyepatch. "Where is Ilmadia? These two are too young to be on their own. I... I worry about the blood you found them covered in."

The flaming sword's ignition lights the wide hall as much as a bonfire would, and then Ras' beam of sunfire steals everyone's sight for a moment. In the afterimage, the companions think they can see faces with smokey eyes pressed up against their vision, as though through fogged glass.

In this light, the party can clearly see the figure's elven features - once fine and chiseled, now stretched tight over bones that seem so jagged it is an awful wonder that they haven't pierced the skin. The creature wails as the light consumes it and it claws at Ug once more before it turns to dust (After resistance, Ug takes 6 slashing).
OOC:
For defeating the Hungry, the party gains 1,440 XP! Total is 99,460 XP!

Erevain keeps his sword drawn, thoroughly unnerved by the creatures seem so far. "In all my travels, I have never beheld monsters such as these. I fear that in this place, there will only be worse to come." He stays close by Alalla, making sure that her odd lapse is fully gone. His eyes flicker from one corner to the next and back again.
Oct 2, 2018 5:49 am
Alalla doesn't sheathe her blade either, and keeps its flames lit. "So much hate and blood. For what? They both lost." She stares down at the dust, horrified that a moment ago it had been attacking her fellows, and her love, and she had been unable to do anything.

Al raises her hood, then summons her glaive to her hand. "You're certain that the only one who can teach you to use the Gem is here, Ras?"
Oct 2, 2018 11:21 am
Ras gulps, and then nods slowly. "After all of my research, Larrel was the only name I found. This is it."
Oct 2, 2018 2:40 pm
"Then we had better keep on," Al says, straightening. "That Gem is a big target if we don't know how to use it. Lets rest for a while, but avoid healing magic for now." She picks a spot against a wall where she can see most of the room, and eases herself down. She holds her hand out for Erevain to join her. If he sits on her bad side, he can cover her blind spots.

Youre fine. You're fine. You have to be.
