Character Creation

Discuss your characters/connections/backgrounds here

Guidelines
1. Characters will start at first level using the standard array and the base equipment granted from class/background.

2. Class/Race options from the Player's Handbook are automatically allowed. Others will be considered on a case-by-case basis

3. The campaign is set in the world of Greyhawk, so keep that in mind when selecting deities

4 (Optional). If you'd like, you can roll your background using the "This is Your Life" table on page 61 of Xanathar's Guide to Everything. Some of the options have bonuses such as extra gold or equipment and must be rolled in the forum to count.

I have an affinity for half-elf sorcerers, and would like to try one again. Not sure what kind of sorcerer, so I'll use the background tables as an experiment!

Starting Attributes after racial bonuses (+2 CHA, +1 CON, +1 WIS):
STR 8 (-1); DEX 10 (+0); CON 16 (+3); INT 12 (+1); WIS 14 (+2); CHA 16 (+3)

Background:

Rolls

Parents, Half-Elf Parents - (1d100, 1d8)

1d100 : (91) = 91

1d8 : (3) = 3

Birthplace - (1d100)

(24) = 24

SIblings, Birth Order if applicable - (1d10, 2d6)

1d10 : (3) = 3

2d6 : (62) = 8

Family, Absent Parent if applicable - (1d100, 1d4)

1d100 : (42) = 42

1d4 : (3) = 3

Family Lifestyle, Childhood Home - (3d6, 1d100)

3d6 : (641) = 11

1d100 : (57) = 57

Childhood Memories - (3d6+3)

(262) + 3 = 13

Siblings - (1d3)

(1) = 1

My preference is to play a forest gnome or human (variant) wizard, but it may overlap too much with sorcerer so I'm willing to play a halfling rogue if preferred by the party.

EDIT: Actually, I'm going to go left-field (for me) and go with either halfling paladin or bard.

EDIT 2: Halfling paladin.

Results:
* I know who my parents are. One parent was an elf and the other was a human.
* I was born at home.
* I have 1 sibling, and I am the younger.
* My family has a single father, because my mother abandoned me.
* We had a modest family lifestyle in a small house.
* I had several friends, and my childhood was generally a happy one.

Edit: Rolling on those tables was very interesting! I think based on everything, may I create a Divine Soul sorcerer? Thinking of picking the Acolyte background with the backstory of entering the local church.

If you'd like, there are tables to help figure out why you went with that specific background/class as well as life events!

Certainly, if being Divine Soul is okay!

EDIt: Oh, that's interesting.
* My family gave me to a temple, since they were unable or unwilling to care for me.
* My immediate family never spoke of my ancestors... but they knew

I suppose knowing my heritage lends itself to being put in the care of a temple, like being marked as a scion or something.

I envision my character as younger than 20 in this regard, so 1 life event:
* Made an enemy of an adventurer!

Is this all or nothing? Can I roll for subset of things?

Whatever you want to do!

So we have a Paladin and a Sorcerer so far.

Since this is gearing up to be a longer campaign, I'd love to go with my favourite class, so lock me in for a High Elf Rogue. If that suits the group dynamic.

I'll check out rolling for background. Sound interesting. Either way, I'll post details tomorrow.

Hey everybody! So pleased to be on this adventure with you all. Big thanks to Naat for accepting my application.

I think I'm going to go Elf Human Cleric, probably Nature Forge domain and melee focused.

Actually, I think I will go Human Cleric. Elf Cleric is just a little too close to CancerMan's Half-Elf Divine Soul Sorcerer on the RP spectrum, and Human Cleric has an old-school feel to it that snuggles up with these modules nicely in my imagination. Also, with your permission Naat, I'm interested in exploring the Forge Domain. If that checks out, he will be of Oeridian ancestry and worship the god of smiths, Bleredd.

So far:

Cancerman - Half-Elf Sorcerer (Divine Soul)
twotonkatrucks - Halfling Paladin
lenpelletier - Human Cleric (Forge)
Tsavo - High Elf Rogue

Still waiting on Jabes to post his concept :)

The chance for a randomly-rolled enemy adventurer is too good to pass up.

Edit:
Neutral Evil Human Paladin that's alive and quite successful!

Perhaps as a lawful good divine soul, my existence was anathema to this paladin's ethos, and I either said or did something that caused them offense. I left the temple to escape the paladin's wrath, and I seek an ancient relic that might defend against them (background bond, and a reason to be in Hommlet with the party).
Sep 27, 2018 8:11 pm
I like the idea of an evil paladin NPC that's tracking you down. Could be fun!

Ideas for why he might not like you:

1. You foiled his plans to destroy your temple or an important figure (whether on purpose or accident)
2. Your life must be sacrificed to fulfill a prophecy of his faith

Could be either of these or something else altogether. Just kind of brainstorming at the moment!
Sep 27, 2018 8:21 pm
I admit, I like the sacrificial aspect more. Seems to tie in nicely to the divine soul aspect.
