I know that's an old adventure, are you taking a 2e version of it?
Oct 17, 2018 5:44 pm
I know there was a reprint for Pathfinder a while ago. Never really got a chance to try it out, so I'd be down to give it a try.

Yes, I would convert it to the playtest system.

I'm ok with both. Haven't been in either one, so I'm going in with out any meta knowledge.

Hi Everyone,

How would people feel about changing this to Rise of the Runelords?

Please let me know!

Thanks,

Justice
That's actually what I'm running in my local playtest group. However, I am pretty good about keeping player!knowledge separate from character!knowledge. Especially in PbP, it gives me more time to formulate "What would {Character} do here?"

In short, I don't mind either way, but if you'd rather not because I'm running it that's fine.

I'm fine with it!

My run through of RotRL has only had character creation plus about 2 hours of game time. And a goblin PC.

I have one of "those" groups, one of the players built his character's personality around an accent that makes horse sound like whores (and vice versa) and is a brewer that made his own drink called Horny Horse with a unicorn for the label. He described a goblin landing a crit on his character as the goblin running forehead first into his crotch. I allowed it.

Additionally, my Golarion's Magnimar has a theater comedy group composed of 3 actors who have specific characters they play name Larok, Curly, and Moe. The gnome druid yelled out "Hey Moe!" while doing a 3 Stooges eye poke combined with Shocking Grasp.

At least my group is never boring.

I don’t mind if you’ve run it before. I just wanted to make sure that you all were okay with the change before making it.

Sounds good to me. I hadn't put anything in that was adventure specific for the character, so I don't need to change or update anything.

Alright, then. The only other piece is that the adventure starts in a city called Sandpoint, in Varisia. There is a festival to celebrate the completion of the cathedral of Desna there (the previous one was burned down about 5 years before).

Why are your characters at this festival? Think about that as I attempt to get another player to come.

Gerrek recently moved to Sandpoint (less than two months) after the Licktongue goblins in the nearby Brinestump Marsh grew too bold. He has done what he can to help out around the town, be it manual labor or providing alchemical goods to town guard (or hangover cures to the drunks).

Theogrin would be recently completing his basic training, so travelling wouldn't out of the question. Seeing to the dedication and completion of a new temple would be worth a side trip for sure.

Probably same concept, except new destination of travel! On to replying ASAP.

Thackery comes from a rather well off hog raising family that is located in a village that does a lot of business with dwarves(they love their bacon, am I right?).
The dwarf hold was busy dealing with an enemy force and couldn't spare any defense for the small village so they but together a militia to deal with the small force of raiders.
Thackery, being the second oldest, took up grammy's sword and joined up.
The old blade needed some TLC so the resourceful boy used what he had and got the blade polished up nice with some lard from his family's Red Hog farm.
The repelling of the raiders took a month or two but was a resounding success. So much so that the militia located where the raiders have been holding up and finally getting with a small regiment of dwarves, took the fight to the raiders and erased them from the map.
All told this whole venture took no longer than year.
Thackery, happily, returns home and resumes work on the farm. He had some many stories to tell about the new raiders dagger that he pulled from a chieftain's body.
But he wasn't really happy. Was lost in thought a lot, staring into the middle distance for minutes on end. He loved his family, and his work, but he wanted to do more. He felt like he could do more out there again.
His family noticed this and secretly ordered a fine ironwood shield, bound in dark iron, to be made by the dwarven hold nearby.
They even ordered a red boar rampant to be painted onto the face, edged in red gold.

One night, they had a big chicken dinner and presented Thackery with the shield and grammy's sword and told him to go be hero he so wanted to be. He had their blessing so he hit the road.

While on the road he decided to take the surname Militia because he hated being only thought of as a Farmerson.

I think this is how he finds his way to Sandpoint, just wandering on the roads and hearing about the festival.

Does this work?

That's a great backstory!

Man, now I remember why I dislike carnival games...

I've been holding my happy-boi back story for a while.

Everyone welcome Ngetch to the party! We just started the first combat, so there is plenty of opportunity for you to join in the fight and fun!

Let me know if you have any questions about creating a character in the playtest system.
