Obaya prepares the ritual with
Stitches, retreating to a dark, quiet corner in the taproom. She produces a very large pearl and a long brown owl's feather, and arranges the space just so, adjusting the table to a precise angle and arranging the kerchief just so. Over the next 11 minutes, she pulls and teases the silk with precise movements, but it is not it's physical threads she is exploring. Instead, she pulls at kerchief's connection to the Weave that she explores, which become visible as threads of ethereal blue light as the ritual progresses. Stitches gets the opportunity to observe the Weave the way a magic user sees it.
By the end of the ritual, the kerchief reveals its secrets. Floating above the silk, a vision of its magical property unfolds. Stitches watches as Obaya speaks to the vision, and the words she speaks appear in writing on the surface of the silk. Then, precise lines spread across the silk, which begins folding itself along these lines like an origami sculpture. By the end, a tiny silk bird takes form and takes the sky.
"A fascinating item Stitches! I hope it serves you well. Once my loans come through, I would be interested in purchasing it. I assure you that you will not find a better offer than what my employer is prepared to offer." She makes the sounds of clinking coins with the Thaumaturgy spell in an effort to communicated in Stitches' natural language.
[ +- ] Silk Bird (Wondrous Item, uncommon)
This silk kerchief appears is adorned with Kara-turan ornamentation. While you carry it, you can expend an action and a charge to speak a message of twenty words or fewer and a creature’s name. Afterward, the kerchief magically folds into a Tiny silk bird and flies to the recipient whose name you uttered. The recipient must be on the same plane of existence as you, otherwise the bird turns into ash as it takes flight.
The bird is an object that has 1 hit point, an Armor Class of 13, a flying speed of 60 feet, a Dexterity of 16 (+3), and a score of 1 (−5) in all other abilities, and it is immune to poison and psychic damage.
It travels to within 5 feet of its intended recipient by the most direct route, whereupon it returns to being an inanimate silk kerchief that can be unfolded only by the intended recipient. Once the message has been read, the words fade away into nothingness. If the bird’s hit points or speed is reduced to 0 or if it is otherwise immobilized, it turns into ash.
The Silk Bird has three charges and regains 1d3 expended charge daily at dawn.
