But what if the random person working in the gunk works of engineering ends up being your character's soulmate?

Arnold J. Rimmer, the bloke who cleans the gunk out of the chicken soup nozzle.

Alordis says:
Dak Khiatt is a half-Bajoran/half-Cardassian who was born in the camps during the war. Unable to be accepted by either side of his extended family due to the mixed nature of his birth-- Cardassians considered him a Bajoran and the Bajorans considered him a Cardassian. He was adopted by a human (hippy) family and raised on a busy colony world where they tried to bring him up to be a sensitive, artistic soul, but he did not fit into their worldview, and he worked very hard at sports and applied to Star Fleet Academy instead.
So, would this be him?

One of the best things I like about STA is the use of supporting characters. Players have great leeway to create any of their fellow crew when they may make an appearance, even if they are a one-off appearance. As they recur, they grow and develop with the players guidance. So a big win all the way around. :)

All I know is that I’ll have fun playing a character on a small ship or larger ship with any number of shifts. And also the characters that are getting submitted are pretty cool.

Except that a ship with a crew of 500 wouldn't likely have evenly split shifts.

It would be heavily skewed towards a first shift where all the researchers work and then off shifts where only minimal staffing in medical, engineering, and bridge ops are on duty.
We see this throughout TN where it's one or two people in the bridge "at night" and all the people like biologists, geologists, etc would be stacked on one shift - no need for 24 hour ops on research positions.
Interestingly, just talking to a former submariner about this -- it was three shifts in an 18 hour day. Work six, off six but expected to train, clean, prep, etc., then supposed to sleep six. For normal conditions. Carriers evidently do "five and dimes" -- five hours on duty, then ten off, but again with loads of expectations about what happens during your off-duty hours.

I think, don't hate me if I'm wrong, my dad said they did 6 and 6 when sailing from Victoria BC to Maui HW. I'd have to ask though to be sure it was a 35' sail boat with 4 guys as crew.

Personally this sounds like torture. We used to work 3 10 hour shifts so there was some overlap in a 24/7 place we had two sides so 4 on 4 off. A lot of police work 4 12 hour days. 2 days, 2 nights which sounds freaking awful to me.

It's Star Trek, so I suspect they've figured out how to make the watches a little more chill than crewing a sailboat or nuclear submarine in the 21st century. ;)

I'll try to get my character done for tonight.

I wonder if they have a fleet of roomba's cleaning the halls.
Feb 27, 2023 8:05 pm
Hmm…why not? Maybe even better, they set sensors to scan all decks on the hour and the transporter to transport all dust and dirt to a holding area. I mean, the Federation would never just transport trash out into space…

I like roombas. Sir! Cardassian's on deck B. Release the roombas!

Question: Does anyone know how to change the background color for a character sheet? I haven't been able to find the BBCcode for doing that.

I have to reluctantly admit I probably can't add another game to my list currently (curse you RL!)

Go boldly and have fun!

Thanks to a couple of nice folk, just add

[ f=display:block width:100% background-color:XXXXX] (where XXXXX is whatever color) at the beginning, and the closing [ /f] (without the spaces) at the end of the sheet.

For example:
