"I agree, these bandits aren't going to leave unless we make them, so we'd better get started before they can cause any more trouble." Matthias echoes Anrin's sentiments.

Matthias will quickly consume his breakfast and double checks his pack to make sure that he has all of the supplies he will need.

OOC - Yeah, I thought I pulled that off pretty well too lol

Sanora sees that Darf wishes to have a word with her and walks away from the group so they can speak.

Darf says, "I think something nefarious may be going on with one of our fellow patrons," trying to ensure that nobody else will hear him with a quiet tone. "On my way to morning provisions i saw an odd man who was rather quick to not be seen. As i passed him he seemed to huridly took shelter behind his walls, as if they hid more than he wanted me to see."

"We should leave in haste, for it is best to travel the roads to Nulb in the day hours, both directions counted. It will be a morning's journey on foot - there are not mounts enough between us".
Aug 8, 2015 3:47 pm
"Then let us make final preparations, and be off!" Anrin checks all of his possessions are in good order, and goes to wait outside the tavern for the off.

A scrub of thorns, thistles, weeds, and shrubs grows thickly along the edge of the track which leads to the ruins. Even the track is mostly overgrown and cluttered with fallen branches and trees. Here and there it is washed out, in other places a mire. Some game evidently still follows the pathway, however, for after a mile or faint traces can be seen. But even considering this, going is slow, and it takes over two hours to trudge along on foot. Considerable hacking and clearing is necessary to make the way passable, but Elmo has an uncanny knack for the area, and he directs the group to utilise cutting power, also finding several shortcuts off-track. After two miles, as the track turns more northerly, the land begins to sink and become boggy. Tall marsh plants grow thickly where cattails and tamaracks do not. Off to the left can be seen the jagged silhouette of the moathouse. A side path, banked high to cross over the wetland to either side, just north to the entrance of the ruin. The track here is only about 15 feet wide or so, with crumbling embankments making travel near the edge dangerous. The bogs stink. The vegetation appears dense and prolific, but somehow sickly and unhealthy, creepers and vines throwing their strangling loops over the skeletons of dead saplings and living bushes alike. The rushes and cattails rustle and bend even to a slight zephyr, and weird birdcalls, croakings, and other unwholesome sounds come faintly across the fen.

The ground is marsh, and a thick sludgy moat surrounds the ruined stone building. A small pool is gathered by the roadside, stirring silently with pondlife. A rotten drawbridge shows you the way in. The door is hanging open on one greathinge.

did anyone bring mounts? Does sanora have her retainers or did they stay behind? You may also organise a marching order

Kobort and Turuko signal for you to lead. Elmo is scratching his head and surveying the area about.

Darf will tend to the back side of our company but in front of Kobort and Turuko so he can fit safely within the order and attack advantageously.
He will also follow the groups direction.
"ooc- can you send me that picture you have set as darf?
Aug 9, 2015 4:59 am
I didn't bring a mount, probably would have known the ground wouldn't be easy for a horse.

My proposed order:
Row 1: Sanora and Anrin (first offense/scout/negotiations)
Row 2: Kobort and Darf (support)
Row 3: Matthias and Turuko (support)
Row 4: Elmo and John Locke(rear guard)

This keeps it so that there is always one of us to keep an eye on the people we don't know well here

I'm happy with that marching order. Anrin would certainly want to be in front, for the reasons you give.

Anrin wonders if this eerie place might contain more than merely physical evil, and reaches out with the senses his recent paladinhood has given him.

Using Divine Sense paladin feature.

Anrin's divine sense does not reveal any evil defilement or otherworldly creatures nearby. However, six giant frogs leap out of the pool off the moat and attack. From the ferocity with which they attack, you would guess that they are very, very hungry.

Those who are surprised by the frogs will not act in the first round.

"Come Kobort, you big oaf! We fight!"

Turuko steps out in front of the group and shapes his hands together. A spray of fine mist sprays towards the group of frogs. He shakes his hands and looks at them, confused. He takes a step backward nervously.

Sanora does not have a mount either. Yes the retainers are with us but the butler and groom hang well back from the fighting. Raheem, the squire would be nearby but has instructions to observe and only interfere if Sanora goes down, i.e. Drops to 0 hp. They are of no benefit during combat.

Sanora leaps forward drawing her short sword. A quick slash is followed by a windmill punch against the first frog.

Anrin lets out an instinctive, "Ehlonna!", but that is all he can do as the hideous amphibians bear down on him and the party.
Aug 13, 2015 8:23 pm
John instinctively has already pulled out his bow, releasing an arrow at a frog he has a clear line to. The arrow was drawn in haste, and swirls over the enemy group.

Kobort picks up his longsword that he dropped in fright. A frog makes two great leaps, landing in front of Anrin. Each time it lands, it splatters mud and dirt from the path and produces a resonant thud from the creature's great hollow body. It pauses for a split second, cocking it's head, before unleashing it's great mouth on Anrin's body, nearly comsuming him and battering him with a slimy black ribbon-like tongue. Anrin steps back to avoid the hit.

Sanora strikes it with her sword, it it recoils a step backwards.

Elmo runs past darf, circling to the front of the group. He brings his battleaxe down to strike the attacking frog. From the way he wields his shield and axe, he was clearly a militiaman for some period of time.

The remaining frogs pounce at once, the rhythm-less pounding and snapping barely muffled by the marshy path. Elmo, throws off two frogs that attack him, but Sanora, Darf and Matthias are each held in a frog's mouth, and are subject to the grappled condition

Turuko wields his quarterstaff, striking the frog and crushing it with a follow-up kick. It croaks it's last. Turuko sidesteps behind the group.

On my turn:

Matthias, stuck in the frogs mouth, begins to panic. He starts hyperventilating and suddenly, desperate to escape, he reaches down the frogs throat unleashes a barrage of magical power into its belly.

The instant Darf processess his desperation to make his move, he attacks. He feels the vitality draining from his body and knows he cant tolerate another blow to his system so he acts as fast as he can. Stuck in the mouth of the frog, Darf moves swiftly. He takes his dagger and maneuvers himself to attempt stabbing the wretched toad inbetween the eyes. (Frog a)

ooc- i dont know if the other people are close enough to apply the sneak attack but ill roll for it and this is also when it rolls around to darf.

(We haven't heard from John/Mrvain in nearly a month now - I'll find a replacement player in a few days if we don't hear from him, but for now I will run him as an NPC)

Johnny drops his bow to the ground and draws his rapier to rush to the aid of his friend. He runs to the side of the the frog grappling Matthias to strike from behind (Darf on opposite side of it).

Kobort readies an attack action to hit any frog that approaches Turuko, grunting senselessly like an animal.

Darf flails, stabbing the frog in the head and nearly blinding it. He notices that there is a tongue around him and it is tightening it's grip.

I'm aware it's a while till my turn, but irl I can reliably post only once every 24 hours, so I'll put my general intention and roll here, and will alter things / add an extra post later if necessary

Anrin sees Sanora* in the grip of the frog's jaws, and immediately leaps to the recue. Using his halfling nimbleness, he maneuvers past his ally and the giant frog, and thus creates the necessary advantage.

*or Darf, or anyone else held by a frog, if things have changed by then.
