Out of character and small talk goes here.

What sort of archetypes are people leaning towards playing?

I'm thinking about focusing most of my strength on stealth and agility. But I want to see what everyone else is looking at as well.
Aug 4, 2015 7:20 pm
We aim to misbehave! :-D I haven't gotten a chance to go through the rulebook til now. Has everybody got their character down yet? I'm leaning towards an Infiltrator or a Tecker.
Aug 4, 2015 7:23 pm
With 5 players and 3 classes, overlap is going to happen
Aug 5, 2015 7:30 am
I was thinking in a Borgoz Frontliner. Get ready for Monkey Combat!!
Aug 5, 2015 10:16 am
For picking your talents, right now you really have to depend on the talent table. In the German version each talent has a graphic that has iconography that says what class, trait, etc allows the talent and to what rank. If I can reproduce this easily I will but may just add it as text soon

My Tecker will specialize in Engineering and Weapons Tech so if anyone else is thinking of making a Tecker, it would be good to have a Hacker or Security Tech or something :-)

My character, I've concretely decided, will specialize in stealth, maneuverability, and long ranged attacks. I might make him/her a Humavari to compliment those traits.

Is anyone making a hacker? Because I'd really like to focus on weapon tech & engineering but if no one is doing hacker then I might have to split split my resources between these three things.
Aug 5, 2015 8:18 pm
Maybe Kal, I remember seeing a post from him saying he was going to make a tecker.
Aug 5, 2015 8:27 pm
I'd be willing to make a hacker if kalajel doesn't want to.

Finished my character, I believe. Just needs to be checked now for inconsistencies and mistakes (which might happen my first time playing in a system like this).
Aug 6, 2015 10:29 am
My character is finished as well, except I don't have a name for him yet. Dextolen, you have the characters per player currently set to zero. Should we just post them in the crew roster thread for now?

We get the idea!

Hey, those of you who haven't submitted your characters, if you do it after today, I may not be able to access the internet for a week, so don't panic. I'm going on a beach vacation and the cabin's wifi never works right. I have to walk out to the street to make phone calls, even.

We will dive right in the week of the 16th. Don't forget about your ship! There are TONS AND TONS of deckplans for small freighter type ships out there on the internet. It would be good to have for mapping purposes should combat ever occur aboard.

Also in the meantime, please think about how you all came together as a group. Are you 'strictly business', friends, owe each other your lives, ... Fee free to hash it out as the other characters get posted.
Aug 7, 2015 1:54 pm
Have fun Dex :)

I had some ship plans some time ago for a Dark Heresy game I ran. I'll look for them and post them here to see if you guys like em. If I remember that right I had eveen water a electricity plans for it.

I've submitted my character. So it looks like Kalerick is our pilot & special ops, Hotwire is our ship's engineer and weapons specialist, and Saru is our muscle. Can't wait to see what Kalajel and Grendelhebrave are cooking up :-D

Enjoy your holiday, Dex!

WH40k ships are pretty sweat. I'd love to see those fore plans. Is it more of a finesse or a muscle ship?
Aug 9, 2015 3:45 pm
It was a small 1 floor freighter I made up based loosely in the external shape of a cobra class destroyer (but bulkier) I hope to have some time this evening to browse through my old papers.

Maybe I'll scale it down as it was a 40 crew freighter full of stasis chambers (full of space nurgle zombies).

Hey guys, I'm back.

Yes, I was planning on making a Tecker, but mine was more of the hacker/field medic type. I wasn't quite done buying his equipment when I had to leave for family business...

Welcome back.

I'm afraid I couldn't find my old dark heresy things.
Here are a few ship floorplans I found on the internet, do you like any of them guys?

That's too bad, I was looking forward to trying to convince the DM to give us Nurgle bodyguards. Because that is what we're missing. Nurgle.
I really like the floorplans for ship 2 those are really nice, it's a pretty good sized ship. I would put my vote toward that one.
I also found this floorplan, if anyone is interested: Ship 4
Aug 10, 2015 6:50 am
Those ships are sweet! My initial thought was something like Serenity but I like what you guys have put up so far. I like Ships 2 & 4 best so far, although I like the fact that Ship 3 has an Engineering station. Any ideas for ship names?

Yep, plague marines are the best tanks ever.

About the ship, I like ships 2 and 4 better. Both 2 (bulkier) and 4 (faster) have a very different style. We need to decide what is our style.

Ship name ideas (mythologic maybe?): Helios, Icarus, Hyperion...

And about how we are working together, I got nothing yet, any ideas?
Aug 10, 2015 1:40 pm
You could be working together due to each owing to a mutual crime lord, you also have 2 skal'az. Could know each other already. ..

Has Grendel made his character yet?

Haven't seen him posting anything here yet, maybe he's on holiday?

I, personally, prefer faster and lighter ships. However, I really like both and each one would be cool and as a group we might have a completely different style. But I'm not sure if I could trust any ship with the name of Icarus (however, it could be hilarious irony). I like the idea of using mythological names.
All of us owing a the same crime lord is a good one. I can't think of any particular idea. Perhaps some of us worked with each other before on small, meaningless tasks. Until they decided to do this together and hire one or two more people to fill in the gaps.

I feel that (like in all cliched sci fi) the human should be the captain... who is being human? :)
I think Kalerick could be a good leader, however, I think he is too one minded and wanderlusted for the position (at the moment). Backup perhaps, maybe not the captain. As well, he is likely to not bother with people, especially when he is "at the wheel" so to speak.

So far I have 2 designs to suggest:
The Venture Class (lower left)
http://www.drivethrurpg.com/images/606/121739.jpg
or the Jo Lynn
http://www.blackwyrm.com/catalog/images/JoLynnMini.jpg
(there is also a gunboat version for this one)
http://0-hr.com/Future_Armada/Art/Gunboat_Interior.jpg
http://orig14.deviantart.net/76c0/f/2014/053/a/8/gunboat_deckplans__poster__by_0_hr-d5k2ipg.jpg
or the Midnight Rose
http://i.imgur.com/Lv3hlZc.jpg
They are all pretty small (about 100m long) compared to a lot of the other ships in that line:
http://0-hr.com/Future_Armada/Art/Group_Portrait.jpg
You could always find plenty of other floorplans here

Or finally, I could always try to whip something up using the plan-making program at pyromancers.com...

Yeah, it's a pretty sweet ship. I've seen other pictures, and the bridge module can separate and be it's own little shuttle-like ship. :D

So I almost demand Grendel make Peter Quill/Star Lord! ;)
Aug 11, 2015 2:30 am
Checking the Venture pdf files (the same as I sent you in PM), and the cargo modules on the side are configurable. Yeah, it looks like a pretty sweet ship. :D

"Hum, no dirty hummings in my crew" XD

JK We really need a face in the group and a human one will be helpful. So yes, as Dex said we need Star Lord (who?) here.
The Venture looks great.
Aug 11, 2015 1:35 pm
I'll go ahead and upload information about the ship on this thread with pictures and floorplans with a legend. Any idea for a ship name instead of just going with the default "Venture"?

Some of my suggestions:
The Freedom
Fickle Fortune
The Marauder
The Centennial Pelican (:P)
Intruder
Interceptor
Star Falcon
Trespasser
Bounty Bebop
The Dog Pound
The Defiant
The Ronin

Tomorrow I'm getting my wisdom tooth pulled out, so I might not feel well enough to be making posts for a few days...
Aug 12, 2015 1:55 am
The ship is a bit more extravagant than envisioned but will do. I could really use a check in from Grendel.
Aug 12, 2015 2:41 am
Well, if you feel we have too much stuff in the ship, you could state that we have an earlier version of the ship (like having it "earlier in its career"), and state we don't have access to "this and that" yet, but we can always get it later once we have enough money to purchase it... Yeah, the Medical and Tech Lab, for examples, were two things I was fully expecting you to tone down somewhat...
Aug 12, 2015 4:11 am
Suggestion: The space for the med & tech lab could be there but with far more modest (or even just bare-bones) equipment.

Yeah, hope to hear from Capt. Grendel soon :-D

Here's an idea...

You have these tech, med etc labs. Image that they each have 3 "slots", right now each of them is empty, meaning you have these spaces on your ship, but they currently offer no bonuses to things attempted from within them - they simply provide a default setting. You can spend credits later to advance these areas of the ship. Each slot will cost XX (TBD) and will grant +2 (cumulative) to skill checks made there for that activity. I may allow some special abilities that take up one of the 3 slots - like a med lab vat tank that restores someone who is - HP but not dead to 1 HP without the loss of 1 BOD. Things like that. I don't want the ship to be the focus of the campaign.
Aug 15, 2015 8:49 pm
Sounds good enough. I also read the description for the Jo Lynn. That ship looks a bit more spartan than the Venture. It is still not too late to switch ships if you want (or I could just modify the description of the Venture).
Aug 16, 2015 1:22 am
I sent a PM to Grendel...I will probably start the game tomorrow! We are going to handle questions about the rules like this - If I can get an answer quick from Germany - great, if not, we'll house rule it.

I've been ok with Venture, actually, but Ronin rocks! :-)
Aug 19, 2015 2:20 pm
Two PMs to Grendel and no response. Hope he's just on vacation!
Aug 19, 2015 2:27 pm
I vote for airlock A, but then again, I left it up the Tea's character so... :P
Aug 19, 2015 2:51 pm
If Kalerik is looking at the schematics he would go to A. If, however, he is just winging it, then he would go to B. I'm just going to rule that he has, at least, seen the schematic... not that he is the best at remembering.
Aug 19, 2015 2:54 pm
The group settles on Airlock A.

Kalerik give me an easy piloting roll (MND + DX +2)
Aug 19, 2015 3:56 pm
Go ahead and try to pick the lock (engineering) and then use the post/roll once you've gotten past this issue
Aug 19, 2015 4:56 pm
kalajel says:
"Need help with that airlock Hotwire?"
Need help with the dice roller, actually LOL! I made a mistake and put +2 on the d20 roll. So the roll result is actually 13, not 15. If Technician applies to that then I successfully crack the lock. Otherwise, no.

Please bear with me regarding your INI, DEF etc as you switch/ use various weapons, etc.

That's pretty awesome. And no problem!
Is there any advantages to sneaking I should be aware of?
Aug 21, 2015 4:23 pm
What will happen is when you move into line of sight, I get to make passive perception checks (MND+IN+Alertness) vs. your rolled goal (in this case 9) - whoever fails doesn't notice you. When you hit unaware opponents I will give your double damage on the hit (doubled AFTER defense roll result). Then you are noticed by all and special circumstances would have to be in place for you to be able to hide and repeat in the same fight.

This may not always be possible - no cover, bright light, etc. I'm kind of giving you this one as these are dumb zombies!
Aug 21, 2015 5:18 pm
One more question: does the movement speed count with diagonals? Or can one only go horizontal/vertical?
Aug 21, 2015 5:30 pm
Diagonals too. For x.5 move rates (which I hate) just round up.
Aug 22, 2015 1:59 am
Hotwire is shooting shooting around the doorway. Does that provide some amount of cover?
Aug 22, 2015 3:28 am

Don't get too caught up in initiative order for PBP, especially when the bad guys all go at the end anyway. If someone 'jumps the gun" and moves where you wanted to go, we can work it out.
Aug 25, 2015 12:40 am
Quick question: do Humavari soak up colored liquid like some plants do? In other words, after being splattered with blood, does Kalerik's skin have a slight reddish tint?

Sounds cool to me.
Aug 25, 2015 2:42 pm

Dextolen says:
In a later round you can lock it as a move action or use a skill check to more permanently shut it.
Would locking or permanently disabling the door be of any benefit now? It seems like they're just going to burst through anyway.
Aug 26, 2015 10:21 am
Perhaps....
Aug 26, 2015 1:18 pm
Grendelthebrave will be back in soon on our DS game and this one too
Aug 26, 2015 2:12 pm

Aug 26, 2015 3:27 pm
Fearing that locking the door might be insufficient as it seems like the zombies are going to break through a locked door anyway, Hotwire is trying to bring the heavy blast doors down, but the security firewall isin his way. I hope S'skaar breaks through it!
Aug 26, 2015 7:15 pm
I read Saru's post first and rolled a big zombie pile on him, then I saw Hotwire took out green. So I deleted the post and just narrated the results.

Can you guys coup a few more times?
Aug 27, 2015 3:16 am
Wasn't that a DEF fail though? CTN=13 :-)
Aug 27, 2015 3:21 am
Quote:
Shooting at red zombie - RAT (11) + into Turmoil (1) = CTN (12) - (1d20)
( 1 ) = 1
Zombie DEF 15 -2 (holdout laser) = CTN (13) - (1d20)
( 12 ) = 12
SLAY! SLAY! SLAY! (CTN 12) - (1d20)
( 3 ) = 3
First roll coups - so 12
Slaying die = 3 add together 15
DEF roll 12 (success) 15-12=3
Aug 27, 2015 3:33 am
Did Kalerik do any damage to the zombie?

Oh is that what that means? Well that does make sense. So can you choose NOT to use the bonus? And if you do use it, how is it determined who gets hit?
Aug 27, 2015 7:32 pm
Yes, you can choose to not get the bonus. Getting the bonus means you shoot at random in the big group of combattants. You can just aim at the zombie and take the usual -1 engaged in melee penalty...
Aug 27, 2015 8:13 pm
Will try to remember that next time! Thanks! :-)

I'm ignoring Hotwire's addition of turmoil into his attack - as

1. Not really a very turmoil-y line up (1 rank + 1 person?)

2. I have not noticed it in previous attacks (sorry) and would have to roll randomly as to who is hit - this would have undoubtedly meant hitting a PC at some point.
Aug 28, 2015 6:08 pm
Yeah my posts have been inconsistent because TBH I'm a bit fuzzy on the rules. I thought maybe I finally had it after kalajel explained it to me in this thread but now I don't know... :-(

Actually I was adding a bonus before but in my latest post I added a penalty.

80% of the SS rules are DS rules. So you are doing double duty when you learn them! No problem.
Aug 28, 2015 6:56 pm
LOL!

So wait, what are the correct conditional modifiers to use for shooting into a turmoil? Looking at the rules now it says +1 to CTN per melee participant but you risk hitting an ally. What happens if you spend a round aiming?
Aug 28, 2015 8:40 pm
They might not make it clear, but I always interpret the rules so that the turmoil bonus is optional, otherwise ranged attackers have the potential of being really detrimental to the party. Otherwise, you can simply use the rule about "Shooting and Obstacles" on the same page, on the next column.
Aug 29, 2015 3:44 am

Question... what is slayer dice? Can't seem to find it in the rules.
Aug 29, 2015 6:37 am
There are two things:

Slayer Dice: when you roll a natural 1 it's a critical hit, you do max damage and roll again to add more damage.

Slayer Points: each round you perform a successfull attack (you cause at least 1 damage point) or healing you receive a SP (you can't have more than 3 SP). Later on you can use SP to things like:

FOR 1 SP
Ignore 2 damage
Cooldown Period -1 round
Defense +3
Opponent’s Defense -1
Get up in melee
MR +1
Change/pick up/draw weapon

FOR 2 POINTS
Dodge once *
Ignore 6 damage
Cooldown Period -3 rounds
Defense +8
Attack +2
Opponent’s Defense -2

Hotwire was shooting from prone last round. What do those computer consoles look like? Is there space to roll underneath them to get to the other side?
Aug 29, 2015 3:50 pm
The stations go to the floor, this is how S'skaar got cover
Aug 29, 2015 4:48 pm
I may have miscalculated DEF, is it -8 instead of -2 and not cumulative?

Oh, and please move my token for me again please. Thanks!

I added some commonly used icons to the top of the map slide. You can copy/paste these to the map and apply to your token as needed. There is also a +x text bonus/penalty to track things like aiming.
Sep 2, 2015 3:03 pm
When the rule says 1 first aid per combat, is it 1 attempt per combat or 1 successful application of first aid in combat?
Sep 2, 2015 3:04 pm
I would rule one attempt
Sep 2, 2015 3:15 pm
Well at least Kalerik hit something: he hit himself! :-D

Maybe I should Take Aim for 5 rounds for the maximum +10 bonus! I bet if I did that the zombie will succeed spectacularly at its Def roll :-P

Looks like the RNG doesn't do division. So manually, that's 4hp healed. Those STILL's must've been cheap knockoffs!

Here's Kalerik about right now...

So, rules question for you guys.

Is ammunition something that is only tracked as far as needing to reload after a fumble or after using sustained fire?

What about energy weapons? I don't see an entry for purchasing battery packs. I see the battery belt, but not the individual magazines.

Looking forward to jumping in.
Sep 3, 2015 7:30 pm
What's great about this is that it is still DS.

GMs can, if they wish, force the players to count each shot.

OR

You can say you have emptied your mag when you fumble or use auto fire.

I am going with that option. The belts just make reloading easier once per combat.

No need to buy ammo unless you purchase some of the specialized ammo types, which we'd count.
Sep 3, 2015 11:47 pm
I actually did buy some ammo. Can I sell it back? :-D
Sep 4, 2015 10:50 am
Hey Dex, I think you gave me one too much SP. I think I should have only one, or am I wrong?
Sep 4, 2015 11:42 am
+1 SP FOR HONESTY!
Sep 4, 2015 3:09 pm
Kalerik, the valiant Humavari, will be deorganed by his own weapon.
Next roll of the dice.

I know, right. Kalerik almost hopes he cuts himself in half! Haha! Kalerik kills Kalerik... +1 SP to?...
Yep, or not by a Humavari who continues to cut open himself. I'm laughing my socks off...

Sep 4, 2015 9:14 pm
I would call you lucky but this is regarding two fumbles
Sep 5, 2015 4:08 pm
So I do I go about healing Kalerik? I've already perform his 1 first-aid attempt per combat on him...
Sep 5, 2015 10:16 pm
You guys can take a short rest and catch your breath. So everyone automatically heals 1/2 of the HP they have lost THIS COMBAT (+1 if they smoke a cigar!) at a rate of 1 HP/ minute.

You need to slap or splash water on Kalerik, then he can roll BOD+CO to wake up with 1HP. Otherwise, he will awaken in d20 hours with 1 HP. Either way he cannot benefit from a breather.

Once he is concious, I'd allow another first aid check. At any time he can be administered a STILL injection, too.
Sep 6, 2015 3:35 pm
I've realized now why Kalerik wounded himself with the chainsword: chainsaws are made for cutting down trees, which are plants. Dun-dun-duuuuun!
Sep 6, 2015 3:38 pm
LOL! Yeah bad weapon choice right there! :-D

Sep 7, 2015 4:10 pm
So my records show
S'skaar HP: 16/16
Kalerik HP: 18/18 (Conscious at 1 HP, +16 HP from S'Skaar's medical attention and +1 HP from cigar)
Hotwire HP: 14/16
Saru 22/22 (heals 10 HP / minute)
Sep 7, 2015 4:59 pm
How many points can Hotwire recover from Catching Breath?
Sep 7, 2015 5:29 pm
I might be wrong, but I'm not sure there's "catching breath" in SS. I think your catching breath is my first-aid checks...
Sep 8, 2015 12:29 am
I confirmed there is catching breath, just as written in DS
Sep 8, 2015 5:00 am
Argh, a fumble. Ok will pause for Dextolen before reattempting the last door.

Sep 8, 2015 11:03 pm

Sep 11, 2015 5:44 pm
Forgive me, Dextolen, but in the weapons tables in SS document what's the dumbbell icon again? The Assault Rifle's stat for that column is given as -3 and OD is given as +4. Might've gotten switched in your post.
Sep 11, 2015 5:50 pm
Fixed the typo, thx

When you fire sustained fire mode (automatic fire) the recoil makes the weapon harder to control. So if the STR icon (dumbbell) shows a -x, you need to have an ST of at least x to not suffer a modifier.

STR: -3, so a character with a ST 3 suffers no penalty. A character with an ST of 2 suffers -1 (-3+2=-1), A person with a 1 ST suffers -2 (-3+1=-2). Lastly, a person with ST 0 suffers the full -3 to hit. Note a ST greater than the penalty does not get any bonus!
Sep 11, 2015 5:59 pm
Makes sense. Thanks! One can choose to fire single shots from an Assault Rifle, yes? SF mode is optional?
Sep 11, 2015 6:02 pm
Totally. SF also uses up the ammo, so you have to spend a round changing mags. Assume you have unlimited ammo unless I dictate otherwise in a scenario, yay DS!
Sep 11, 2015 6:28 pm
Dextolen says:
Hotwire takes one of 6 spacesuits. He also sees 4 hard backpack type devices he recognizes as zero-g thruster packs.

The door's security system gets the best of him, however.
1. We're talking about Hotwire's scan attempt failing, right? He hasn't tried to break into the workshop yet.
2. Is it possible to wear a spacesuit over one's clothes/armor? Hotwire is currently wearing a protective vest.
3. How about one's backpack and one of those zero-g packs?
Sep 11, 2015 6:34 pm
Shit, sorry I am at work and just scanned your post - thought you were picking the lock- Deleted my roll post.

The space suit is bulky enough to fit over your clothing and the protective vest (as it is thin compared to other forms of armor).

However, you would need to have it tailored to fit a Skal'az body.

Sep 13, 2015 4:57 pm
Ok to move on to the bridge to get the hack started, Dextolen? Or do you want us to roleplay moving the gear, etc (also, Kalerik's response to Hotwire's question)?

I vote move on, and obviously so does kalajel, but GM's call :-)
Sep 13, 2015 5:09 pm
No need to roleplay the logistics run.
Sep 13, 2015 5:16 pm
Awesome! To the bridge then! :-)

OOC: Will it make the task easier if Hotwire and S'skaar work together? Use Hotwire's STA as S'skaar suggested?
Sep 13, 2015 5:24 pm
Sure - to help you roll your engineering check, if you succeed, you grant +2 to S'skaar's target
Sep 14, 2015 4:13 pm

Sep 14, 2015 4:14 pm
There is a woman with her back turned visible on the camera in the engine room/machine room She did not respond to the PA system, perhaps it is not functioning
Sep 14, 2015 4:28 pm

sounds good to me.
Sep 15, 2015 2:38 am
Sounds good to me, Kalerik has been silent this whole time, but he is still here and alive. Just haven't thought up anything he would do outside the ordinary. Probably just cranky that we aren't in space or in a bar...

Kalerik overheard the Imperial transmission and he knows the type of ship mentioned in the message. It is a smaller ship but holds 12 fighters and could hold up to a platoon of Imperial troopers.
Sep 18, 2015 10:44 pm
Has Kalerik seen exactly what the plant beings were? Or just the tendrils?
Sep 18, 2015 10:53 pm
Small (1m high) humanoid plants that look like a pile of vines and leaves, like a mini shambling mound from D&D.
Sep 20, 2015 5:52 pm
Oops, sorry, can't move and SF in the same round! Changing my action, if I may...

Phone won't even load the map now, so I can't say. But definitely not moving into that thing's range. From where Hoywite was standing last round, straight through the greenhouse in the direction of the far door. Thanks! :-)
Sep 22, 2015 11:58 am
You are 3 hexes apart from each plant thing now
Sep 22, 2015 12:34 pm
Teamwork! Thanks for doing that for each other, I would have no time to move people all myself as I did in the old DS Forum game.

Yes, please continue... if we get to the end of the round and he hasn't responded I'll act for him.

Sorry, crazy all-day/night at work.. Will post 8hrs from now.
Oct 1, 2015 5:13 pm
Dextolen says:
Hotwire uses his ammo belt for this combat
So how does that work? That's the 2nd round of sustained fire already so that used up one of my extra mags, yes? I have another mag so that's one last round of sustained fire, right? Hold on, is the belt just a holder for the mags or is the ammo belt effectively a 3rd mag?
Oct 1, 2015 6:31 pm
Without the belt (or Speed Loader talent) you need to spend a FULL ROUND (Move and action) reloading a weapon before it can be used again after firing sustained fire mode.

If you have an ammo belt, you can reload 1 x as a free action (the talent does the same). So now you need to spend a full round reloading in order to be able to use the weapon again. TECHNICALLY, you are supposed to declare the free action in between firings but I let it slide.
Oct 1, 2015 6:42 pm
Oh ok! So reloading as a free action is once per combat? And I used that free action to reload for round 2. So now if I want to keep using the assault rifle I have to spend round 3 reloading? Got it.

What about those ammo mags? Are they consumed or what? Was buying them an unnecessary expense?
Oct 1, 2015 6:45 pm
I'm choosing the 'don't track ammo' GM's option. If you ever buy specialty ammo, we'll track those.
Oct 1, 2015 6:49 pm
Ok, got it. Can I have my 4 credits back? :-D
Oct 1, 2015 6:55 pm
Sure, buy some cigars!
Oct 1, 2015 7:39 pm

I feel as if Kalerik has become comedy relief completely by accident. When a fight starts, he charges in and then drops unconscience.

That could be your "thing" :P
Oct 3, 2015 4:24 am

Oct 3, 2015 4:00 pm
I'm sorry, Hotwire just used his ammo belt so he can go sustained fire one more time, right?
Oct 3, 2015 4:24 pm
No - we retro'd that you used it between sustained fires you already did previous rounds.
Oct 3, 2015 4:35 pm
Got it, got it. Single-shot mode still available, yes?
Oct 3, 2015 4:40 pm
You have to spend one full round (no move or other actions) changing your magazine and then you can fire whatever mode you wish
Oct 3, 2015 9:11 pm
Hum, isn't what Hotwire doing technically dual-wielding, which would impose a penalty of -10 on both attacks and defense rolls?
Oct 3, 2015 10:53 pm
Ranged combat w/ two weapons is slightly different: (definitely not as severe)

In Ranged Combat
When using additional firearms (for example, a pistol in each hand) the attack value for each weapon is divided by the number of targets.

Also, in this case, Hotwire's overcharging his laser and shooting his slug thrower, right? If he fires both next round, the above would apply. Alternating between overcharging and a different gun is not dual weapons in ranged, technically.
Oct 4, 2015 3:43 pm
That seems like a clever strategy, to alternate between overcharging laser weapons.
Oct 7, 2015 6:49 am
Jabes.plays.RPG says:
Hotwire lets loose with a white-hot beam from his overcharged weapon.
Hmmm...that sounds wrong XD
Oct 7, 2015 5:21 pm
Hey Jabes, are you sure you don't want to do an extra attack with those 3SP before I act?
Oct 7, 2015 5:39 pm
He can do it at any time
Oct 7, 2015 6:55 pm
If I were to use my 3SP for a 2nd attack it would have to be with my other weapon. Then I'd be dual-wielding and would suffer penalties, right? :-D
Oct 7, 2015 7:19 pm
ok, I'll do my attack then
Oct 7, 2015 7:30 pm
Damn, that regeneration thing never gets old!

Done.

So, my laser is overcharged. Do I absolutely have to shoot it this round, or can it hold its charge, or can it cool off on its own? So I can lend my laptop to Chuck this round...
Oct 14, 2015 3:58 pm
It cannot hold it's charge. I confirmed this with CK.
Oct 14, 2015 5:34 pm

I like S'dkaar's plan: lure the zombie out of the reactor room. Maybe we won't even have to fight her, just lock her in the greenhouse or something. I guess trying to "cure" her is out of the question?

Damn, I wanted to take the gun turret with us!
Oct 21, 2015 7:12 am
Kal is right we should get away from the reactor and I think we can bring the zombie down and take the turret with us. Maybe we can teach it to talk in a cute voice like the portal turrets :)

Graaaaiiiins! I love it!
Oct 29, 2015 2:44 pm
How heavy is the turret? Hotwire is pretty useless at melee and figures the rest will finish Annie off, set mines, and will catch up to him since it'll take time to haul the turret. That's why he intends to get a head start.
Oct 29, 2015 3:12 pm
You see a button that allows the turret to collapse and fold into an attache case. MR -1 to carry it around, same as a toolkit.
Oct 29, 2015 4:11 pm

It takes an action, you can still move, unless you use a SP to get up for free, or have a talent, I forgot which one it is, which can also allow oyu to get up for free.

Getting up from prone takes up my entire turn, right? I can't act or move?

Kalerik is still unconscious even after Hotwire healed him with a STILL for 9pts? How much damage did he do to himself exactly?
It takes an action, you can still move, unless you use a SP to get up for free, or have a talent, I forgot which one it is, which can also allow oyu to get up for free.
Ok, moved my token on the map.
Nov 6, 2015 10:30 am
Sorry for the silence. Internet's been spotty.

I might've already asked this before: Is it possible to move through spaces occupied by friends? What about foes?
Nov 6, 2015 1:41 pm
I permit you to move through friends if they are not in melee combat. You cannot move through enemies ever, but you may move around them (no opportunity attacks, etc)
Nov 6, 2015 6:32 pm
Unable to move my token again. Hotwire moves towards Lab B taking the gun with him.
Nov 11, 2015 3:39 am
I was REALLY hoping CK would post the expanded dogfighting rules by now, but alas....

So I am running this just like I did with a recent WhiteStar game I ran (and everyone loved it).

Everyone pick a position on the crew

Pilot - Probably Kalerik, right?
Gunner - you are manning the turret
Navigation - You are plotting the hyperspace coordinates (remember, bouncing too close to a supernova...)
Co Pilot - You manage shields, minor systems
Repair - Something gets damage - you use a fire extinguisher or use a hydrospanner to fix it.

Duhnt dunt dunt dunt dunt dunt - dee dee dee dee
Nov 11, 2015 3:45 am
Repair, I guess. I hope we don't take any damage but if we do, the Engineering ranks will probably come in handy!
Nov 11, 2015 8:39 am
What rolls would be involved in each position?
Nov 11, 2015 1:50 pm
Pilot Spacecraft: MND + DX
Co-Pilot Duties MND + DX & MND+IN
Nav/Hyperspace MND+IN (Programming?)
Repair MND+DX (Engineering)
Gunnery - MOB+DX
Nov 11, 2015 1:51 pm
Gunnery for me then :)
Nov 11, 2015 4:03 pm
I'll take Nav/Hyperspace then.
Nov 11, 2015 6:05 pm
Good news Kalerik! Your best buddy Chuck will be sitting up front with you. I'll take copilot.
Nov 11, 2015 10:22 pm
My mines were on a timed fuse...
Nov 12, 2015 1:29 am
When were they set to blow?
Nov 12, 2015 5:17 am
I had set them to go off a few minutes after our initial estimate for the imperial arrival. In hindsight, maybe not a huge cushion...
Nov 12, 2015 5:36 am
Hotwire set his mines to coincide with Chuck's.
Nov 13, 2015 12:25 am
The station's reactor exploding didn't take out the cruiser docked to the airlock right next to the machine room? :-D
Nov 13, 2015 12:31 am
Sorry, I should have explained. The cruiser is in the distance. The troopers must have taken a shuttle. The shuttle had returned to the cruiser after dropping them off in the airlock
Nov 13, 2015 6:03 am
Ah. Makes sense :-)
Nov 13, 2015 8:51 am
Do the ship's weapons have any attack/oponent's defense bonus? do I get to add my +1 to RAT (agressive)?
Nov 13, 2015 11:16 am
MND+DX+WB (4).

Is it MOB or MND?
Nov 13, 2015 1:21 pm
Sorry, MND. Since you are using ship controls to fire.
Nov 13, 2015 1:25 pm
ouch, Saru's not the smartest guy. Anyway I'll do my roll asap.
Nov 15, 2015 9:45 pm
So, after who are we waiting for?
Nov 15, 2015 10:00 pm
The Imperial Cruiser, I think?

Though it looks like we got hit for 6 damage so I guess I better get on that.
Nov 16, 2015 1:12 am
you all go - so more hyperspace programming, piloting, etc
Nov 16, 2015 1:37 am
S'skaar continues to enter the hyperspace coordinates.

(OOC: D'oh! XD)

Hyperspace course (MND+IN+Engineer+Hacker+Laptop, total CTN 17) - (1d20)

S'skaar sets the coordinates such that the Ronin would bounce too close to a supernova. RESET THE COUNT

HA HA! Wow, its hilarious. When I created Kalerik, I forgot to optimize him for piloting. The dice are still on his side every time, though.

There will be a new race featured in the upcoming update to the Stray Dogs edition of StarSlayers. Cat-like people. No nothing about their racial bonus or abilities. This update will also feature space battle rules.

If you guys survive this I am going to allow you a chance to COMPLETELY rebuild your character - even make a new one if you wish. As we settle into the rules and campaign.
Nov 20, 2015 5:37 pm
I thought S'skaar completed the hyperspace programming in Round 4? http://gamersplane.com/forums/thread/864/?p=34916#p34916

Had a fumble that wiped out the first success. One to go
Nov 20, 2015 10:29 pm
Yeah, I madea a mistake and posted it on here instead of the adventure thread, but yeah, I did rolled a fumble on round 2.

I have a question, could the damage done to that part of the ship potentially be enough to stop a tractor beam? If necessary.

Thanks to Hotwire, I'll be at CTN 21 for the next Hyperspace check. Possibly 23 if Chuck assists for a +2. This is going to be nice...

Patch 1.1 is out for Starslayers Star Strays edition. We have a new race (cat people), new class (pilot) and 20 new talents. I am going to start translating this week. It's only two pages so should not take long. Again, am allowing you to redesign your PC or make a new one as we wrap up the payment/handoff with your contact.
Dec 1, 2015 4:23 pm
Anything about weapon mods and cyber implants? Because that was sort of going to be Hotwire's thing. :-)
Dec 1, 2015 4:32 pm
Not yet. They are putting out the patch piecemeal, so I expect that to come.

Jan 26, 2016 8:39 am
Great idea Dextolen :)
Jan 28, 2016 11:06 am
I see funfungiguy is in. Welcome! :-)
Jan 28, 2016 12:42 pm
Yay! FFG - There should be links to the Starslayers rules here in the forum. If a link is broken, let me know. Basically, we have 4 races - Human, Humavari (Plant/human hybrids), Skal'az (cyber/tech minded shorter version of Bossk from Star Wars), Borgoz (physical ape-men).

We also have a new cat people race (dexterity and charm focus) I have not fully completed translation

Class wise, we have Frontliner (fighter), Infiltrator (scout), Technician (gear head or medic) and now Pilot (still translating)
Jan 29, 2016 6:41 am
Hey all!

Two questions real quick, then I think I might be done:
1. Am I correct I understanding that even if I pick a Frontliner for a Class, I can pick Martial Arts as a talent if my ST is 4 or greater?
2. How do I determine how much credits I start with for the game? Can I just roll my 2d20 in this post, or is there somewhere else you prefer I do it?

Rolls

Checking for starting credits: - (2d20)

(1413) = 27

Jan 29, 2016 8:38 am
Good to play again with you :)

I can answer the first one: you can select it up to level I as a frontliner with your 1st level TP.

And I have a question myself for Dextolen. Where are we in the road to level 2? I remember we got XP after the first fight but none after the rest so I was wondering if you were tracking that yourself?

We've levelled up already, after the Station of Death.

Also, sorry funfungiguy, I forgot to answer your question.
Martial artist is listed as ANY 1 -I, INF 1 -V, ST 4:III, AG 4:III.
This means that Infiltrators and Tekkers can take it at first level, but only up to rank I. Frontliners can take it at first level all the way, eventually, to rank V. If you're not a frontliner, you have the possibility to take it to rank III it you have a strength or agility at least at 4.
Jan 29, 2016 4:19 pm
The way I'm reading it "INF" is Infiltrator, correct? So anyone Level 1 or higher can take it up to Tier I. INFiltrators Level 1 or higher can eventually take it up to Tier V, and if your not an INFiltrator Class you can take it up to Tier III if your St or Ag is a 4 or greater, right?
Jan 29, 2016 4:38 pm
Also, can a character wear a Shock Glove and still use his Martial Arts talent? The weapon seems to be treated like an unarmed combat even when your wear it.
Jan 29, 2016 4:48 pm
That's exactly what I've been suggesting to Saru, our resident Kong Fu expert. Hotwire (my Skal'Az tekker) has a shock glove he doesn't need (he's no good at melee) so yourPC may have it.
Jan 29, 2016 4:57 pm
It probably mixes with martial artist but it sure doesn't stack with my claws and would ashame my ancestors XD. But if you don't have the claws racial benefit, those gloves might come in "handy" :)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jhUkGIsKvn0
Jan 29, 2016 5:26 pm
Final question and I'm done and my character will be submitted:

I don't understand "New Talents" concept as it applies to a character being made Level 2. When you guys started out at Level 1 and became Level 2, did you get a Talent Point to apply to an already existing Talent plus a new Talent at Tier I? Am I reading that right?
Last edited January 29, 2016 5:27 pm
Jan 29, 2016 5:36 pm
I understood that too
Jan 29, 2016 6:19 pm
Yes, you can either upgrade an existing talent as much as the talent allows for your class/level/attribute score or get a new talent that is permissible for the same.
Jan 29, 2016 6:47 pm
Okay, cool. Submitting my character right now. Let me know if it needs any revising. I'll add it to the Crew Roster as well.
Jan 29, 2016 10:47 pm
Looks good. Does he have a dire beagle familiar? :P

Now we just need to drop off Chuck somewhere so he can lie low after robbing off Jorbo and pick up (find?) our latest crew member...
Jan 29, 2016 11:07 pm
Lol, StarSlayers book doesn't give you the option for pets like the DS book does, sadly, so I cropped the dire beagle out of the picture.
Feb 5, 2016 2:49 am
Are we waiting for someone?
Feb 11, 2016 3:16 pm
How much cash do we have on us again? Before we sell anything. I'm trying to put together a personal shopping list.

What sort of things & upgrades can we get for the Ronin?

Funfungiguy, your haracter can have Hotwire's shock glove.
Feb 11, 2016 3:25 pm
I plan on introducing FFG's character very soon!
Feb 12, 2016 8:30 am
Quote:
Maybe some better armor? I don't know what you wear; your character sheet in the Crew Roster thread doesn't seem to be up to date...
I've double checked and it is updated. Anyway I'm wearing the biggest armor I can to not lose the martial artist bonuses.

@Dex: are there any higher quality light armor pieces or only what is in the manual?
Feb 12, 2016 11:35 am
For now let's just stick with the book
Feb 12, 2016 3:27 pm
With Hotwire's share of the store creds (I took 52) and some of the cash he still has on hand he bought:
*Respiratory filters for helmet (25 creds)
*100m synthrope (5 creds)
*Arm & leg guards (40 creds)

I'm trying to decide whether I'm trading in Hotwire's shock glove or if I'm selling it to Tchok Brawn (at a discount, of course!) :-)
Feb 12, 2016 4:32 pm
I'd trade it now if I were you. Tchok's pretty well broke at the moment (hence looking for work) and Hotwire'd be sitting on that glove for a while.
Feb 12, 2016 10:52 pm
Thanks for the heads up. Then again this place doesn't trade in weapons.
Feb 13, 2016 12:15 am
There are weapons dealers in the market....
Feb 13, 2016 12:19 am
Ah. That's the next stop then.
Feb 13, 2016 12:23 am
I thought this place didn't trade in weapons... Oh well, it's not like I need weapons, I'm more of the party's medic and hacker, so...
Feb 13, 2016 12:28 am
Hotwire is the party's weapons tech but for now I'm actually more interested in selling.
Feb 13, 2016 4:03 am
kalajel says:
I thought this place didn't trade in weapons... ..
The upper, civilized area doesn't. I may have not been clear before.
Feb 13, 2016 4:26 am
Ah, ok, I see. Guess we could sell the weapons as well then...
Feb 13, 2016 1:37 pm
FFG, for Tchok's dog, if you want him to be able to take orders (guard, attack, etc) I have rules for that but he takes a cut of experience like a character. If he is not trained, I sorta run him like an NPC and he may or may not be useful all the time.
Feb 13, 2016 4:39 pm
Don,t we just all get 1 XP after each fight? If this were DS, you'd have a point, but SS uses a radically different XP progression...
Feb 13, 2016 7:35 pm
I'm cool with Soopy running as an NPC. No need to pull from other characters' XP.

I was mostly gonna have him wait on the ship so he didn't die anyway, to be honest.

It's not like I jumped through the hoops necessary to have him as a familiar or whatever like you do for DS, anyway.

Edit your character, somewhere in the upper right, you should see a small red line which says something along the line of "Set avatar for character" or something to that effect.
Feb 14, 2016 1:43 am
I think I got it because you can select "post as player" or "post as character". Whichever you select is what avatar show as up.
Feb 15, 2016 5:31 pm
Go ahead and work out any shopping issues before we continue on with the story. I can wait a bit.
Feb 15, 2016 5:46 pm
Hotwire is 1 cred short of being able to afford a grappling gun. If I take a 53 cred cut instead of 52 then I'm good. I'd really like some upgrades for the ship but I don't see anything in the rulebook about that.
Feb 15, 2016 6:10 pm
Can my character just give it to Hotwire?
Feb 15, 2016 6:29 pm
Well Tchok doesn't seem to trust us yet so it doesn make sense he'd give me a cred. I'm sure S'skaar would be willing to lend Hotwire the cred but I figured I'll just take a 53 cred cut from the item sales and be done with it.

Here's a complication: Saru's cut (52 creds now because Hotwire took 53) is in store credit, not cash. So we can't go spending it elsewhere, correct?
Feb 15, 2016 6:42 pm
Tchok's scruples about accepting the assault rifle was that on his planet, because of the culture's cutthroat nature and and lack of resources, offering something of such high value would definitely come with a rub of some sort. Only someone desperate or foolish would accept an offer like that. Maybe Tchok's got too much pride to accept a free rifle, because accepting things Where he's from implies your in dire straights and need to indebt yourself to someone who surely intends to make you pay dearly for their generosity later.

Offering a credit or something else on the other hand is slightly different because only Tchok knows if it's offered with strings attached (although on his planet maybe offering it would be likely to piss someone off). Granted that's unlikely as it's only one credit, but who knows what sort of debt might be incurred from a loan of one credit. Who knows what goes through his tiny ape brain...
Feb 15, 2016 6:55 pm
Great roleplaying
Feb 15, 2016 7:09 pm
Oh, don't worry, I got it funfungiguy. I'm simply roleplaying S'skaar like this as he has no way of knowing your reasons for refusing the rifle.
Feb 15, 2016 7:46 pm
As I'm in no need for new equipment for now Saru will gladly share his money with Hotwire.
Feb 15, 2016 9:06 pm

Acutally, since you just robbed off the crime lord Jorbo, you probably left. As I suggested Dex, you probably slipped some message on one of us, asking us to come pick you up at some secret location later. :P

Okay do not forget your store credit of 52 or 53 creds (210 total /4 crewmen = 52.5). I took 52 and another 53 for Saru's part he did not used. I guess Kelerik did not used his either, so you might have a total store credit of 105 after all...

Okay, Parvus is willing to chip in for two missiles. I have a bit over 500 creds left, but I'd still want to keep a few hundreds on me for spending money just in case, so I'd be willing to contribute 300 to by a proton torpedo instead of a missile. How much are Kalerik and Hotwire able to contribute?

Too funny. Hope we haven't lost him again in the interim! :)

Well, I'm in a game Grendel runs and I haven't seen a post from him since March 24th.

What's the hold up?
May 2, 2016 4:32 pm
I'm going to run Chuck as the 'will watch the ship' NPC for a while.
May 2, 2016 4:33 pm
Okay, no problems.
May 2, 2016 5:21 pm
Fine with me. :-) His re-entry was hilarious! It's be a waste to just drop him again.

I have PM'd teaanddice

So, how much money would Kalerik have contributed to buy missiles for the Ronin?
May 12, 2016 10:05 pm
What are passive scanners? :-D

Speaking of scanners, could I have made improvements to my helmet (using parts from the helmet we found on the research station) during the trip?

I don't really know about Starslayers, but in most sci-fi games I've played, passive scans are low-powered scans which are much harder to detect and which pretty much only serves detecting active scans (typical ships' scans for life forms, fire control, ship detection, etc.).

Kalerik mysteriously disappeared, maybe he didn't pay anything :) .

Ah. That's what I thought. Just didn't know if SS had them. :-)

SCAN MODES
Each scanner has an active and a passive mode. Passive scanning, which discloses only basic information, is best when not wanting to be noticed by others. Active scanning can be provide greater details (with a second check).

Note:
Until the rules are expanded, assume each scanner has a CTN of 10-12. If the roll fumbles, no further attempts bring more information on the object or situation.

SCANNER DETECTION
Active scanning can be detected automatically by another scanner by a passive scanning check (this should be rolled by the GM without the player's’ knowledge, lest they realize they’ve been scanned). In addition, a character with a Comm or Tecscanner can try to search for active scanning within the area if he decides to check while it’s taking place.

I do not want an active PC to remain 'in the car' - this is the adventure!

Works for Chuck, however.

What do I roll again to hack/hotwire the palm scanner or the door lock?
Jun 8, 2016 2:30 pm
MND + DX + applicable talents or racial bonuses.

I will be at Origins Game Fair Weds thru Sunday and probably too drunk to post

With two players dropped and my workload, I think I'm going to end the campaign. It was fun!
Jun 24, 2016 2:25 pm
All right, thanks for the great time. Really enjoyed Kalerik as a character. It certainly was a blast!
Jun 24, 2016 3:25 pm
The same for the other gam as well, or are we keeping that one?
Jun 24, 2016 3:28 pm
Nope, other game is getting dropped as well...
Jun 24, 2016 5:49 pm
I'm sorry hear this, but I do understand. Thanks for running these games. It's been real fun! Hotwire has been one of my favorite characters! :-)
