Into the Barrier Peaks

Etna
Taking a quick stock, you see that none appear injured or under assault. The sun has just begun to crack the eastern sky. Following the gaze of the others, you see that the metal valve blocking the smaller cave, high on the hill, appears to have opened.

"Time to enter." Hraefn spoke simply. Even though they were a distance away, the druid tried to see if he could perceive any movement or enemies potentially ambushing the entrance on the inside.

I rise quickly, and immediately nock an arrow without second thoughts.

Cædwyn grabs his sword as well and follows Etna towards the cliff.

OOC:
Bram may or may not have risen before sunrise to study his spells. Is it still completely dark outside or are we in predawn light?
Mar 7, 2019 5:38 pm
Bram
It is more pre-dawn. It is perfectly acceptable to assume, if you deem it your normal routine, to have risen a bit earlier to study.

As you all approach the base of the steep hill, you see that the upper cave door has, in fact, opened. You cannot see much more than that from this vantage. It is a steep hill, and will require two athletics checks to ascend. If a rope is secured at the top somehow, the two checks are with advantage. It is 100 feet, should magic of some kind be used.
Mar 8, 2019 7:51 pm
As I get closer to the cliff, and see that the door is still open, I activate my Wings of Flying and leap into the air, my goal being to secure the ledge and keep that door open if at all possible.
Mar 8, 2019 7:53 pm
I pull my cloak of arachnid tight and walk up the hill.
Mar 8, 2019 10:43 pm
Bram steps over to the area of the entrances and looks up watching his teammates head up to the open upper door. He wonders if it's worth it to drink the potion of Climbing and go up himself, but after a moment's consideration he decides against it.
Mar 9, 2019 1:30 am
Hraefn considered whether he ought to fly into the cave, but was unsure whether the cave interior could accommodate the size of his flying forms. "Secure a rope if you can, the rest of us will follow." He called out to Caedwyn and Merrriweather.

If I land on the ledge without incident I'll start securing a rope to it. I have a grappling hook and pitons from my climbing kit so it shouldn't be too hard to secure it well enough, assuming there's at least some stone or outcropping to work with. I brought 50 feet of silk rope with me, so I'm hoping Merriweather has another 50 we can tie together.

Caedwyn, Merriweather
At the top of the hill, you see that the metal valve blocking the entrance has, indeed, slid away and revealed the inside of the cave. The entirety of the space is metal, including the floor which is made of of a strange metal grating. The space in the cave is roughly 20 feet wide and 10 feet deep. The far wall looks like it is a thin line running down the middle. The entry wall behind you looks slightly curved.

Securing the ropes together, you drive a few pitons into the stone and toss it over the side. A few minutes later, Hraefn scrambles over the top, followed shortly thereafter by Ilwyn.

Sincerest apologies guys, been feeling a little burnt out as of late on the writing stakes. Please bear with me for a while as I get back into the swing of things. And correct me if I get something wrong, there's been a lot to catch up on.
Ilwyn hauls herself over the ledge, wringing out her limbs at the top and proceeding to stretch and yawn, only just now rubbing the last of the blear from her eyes after their sudden awakening. "How sinister." She states, putting her hands on her hips as she examines the now-open door into the mountainside. "Miss Redbriar made it clear it was filled with monsters, but I struggle to comprehend how an outlandish mechanism such as this could function without someone controlling it... And even then. The architecture is alien."

She drew her sword as she stepped to the fore of the party, peering into the darkness within, but not quite entering the caverns.

While Hraefn waited for the rest of the party to assemble just outside the cave door, but before any one of them entered the cavern itself, meditated quietly to see if he could perceive any danger or trap, or activity or movement behind the next door, which seemed too small for the monstrous beast that Etna had sensed within.

Hraefn
The room is strange, unlike anything you have ever experienced before. Examining the area from outside the entry portal, you cannot seen anything that would indicate it is trapped or otherwise poses an obvious hazard.

"Shall we?" Ilwyn had positioned herself just in front of everyone else, and next to her, Hraefn stepped forward, and into the cavern proper, intent on examining the inner door.

You all climb up to the top of the hill, Bram struggling as the rest of you manage to pull him the final few feet. Taking stock, you all see the strange metal entry for yourselves. The outer metal surface is dark grey in color, while the interior is darker. Immediate observations indicate no other exits as you all follow Hraefn inside.

The far wall, upon examinations, appears to be much like the outer valve, though instead of one large door, is actually two doors as evidenced by a thin line vertically bisecting it right down the middle.
