...Where The Company of Heroes Gather and Bond

It was clear to Korgazhar that the reconnaissance of the last two days erred on the side of caution. Tonight, it seemed, they were going to do more of the same, but this time with the biggest prey of all, Nosnra himself. The half-orc very much doubted that interrogating the hill giant chief would accomplish much, and Korgazhar was not given to hold his tongue if the plan was a failure.

Braghnak, his squire, did bring back from his town expedition some fresh poultry and salt pork, so Hedrek, the chief steward, had put his culinary skills to amazing use, and whipped up a hearty partridge stew to be eaten with bacon-filled pastry. It was now up to the other members of his team to see if they were prepared to try some orcish cuisine.

Ælfric nodded to Hedrek in thanks for the greasy food. He was used to a more plant-heavy diet but any civilized being should appreciate bacon, and so did he. Ælfric did not smile at Hedrek because he wasn't sure if the chef had come of Orcish age yet, and sat close to the wizard to eat.

Fernal, who has kept her distance from Korgazher as it appears she doesn't at all favor him, does sit down to try his orcish cuisine with the party. Notable that Fernal is lacking in general table manners. She does offer out her wine as well to all. Being a 40 gallon barrel, it isn't going to empty fast. She has her own eating utensils with her and she is at least that civilized. You can tell she isn't used to eating with other around.

""Hmm... interesting. A simple stew, with only the basic condiments for flavoring. And this bread! Who else but Orcs would have thought to put meat in bread! I finally know what the rancid flavor in the previous orc bread I had was.

Alain seems to be enjoying the meal, or rather enjoying the experience of eating an exotic meal.

No plans from me.

You all sit quietly, each involved with his or her own tasks and interests as the day passes. Fortunately, there are no visitors to your area, and the sun sinks just as quietly as it rose.

After eating, Ælfric said to everyone, "Darkness falls. We must finalize the plan."

Fernal doesn't add anything as far as planning. Good possibility she lives by the moment. "Alain. Do you play and sing?" She ask as she done eating and relaxing with cup of wine. She needed good to Korgazhar about the meal.

"You intend to kidnap the giant chief." Korgazhar opened the discussion again as night fell. "More scrying again first? I assume Aelfric and Alain will go, bewitch Nosnra, and bring him back?"

"I do indeed! Do you have a request? I can perform any piece that can be found in Greyhawk, and a considerable amount of pieces that can't. Though you may have to wait until we get back with the giant chief."

She digs into her back and withdraws a long wand leather pouch. She then withdraws out an exquisite and well silver flute with runes running the length of it. It is something totally out of place considering her. "You sing and I will play to match." She is astoundingly good at this.

Ælfric tilted his head slowly in Fernal's direction, wondering why she would start making noise when they were hiding in a cave from dozens of relatively nearby giants. It was all he could do not to reach out with his arcane arm and pull the flute from her grip.

Korgazhar was thunderstruck at the barbarian's imprudent behaviour; he saw Aelfric's expression directed at Fernal and for once he was in agreement with the elf. "You accursed barbarian fool! Stop that immediately!" He hissed, then glared at Alain, "And you're an idiot for putting the idea into her head in the first place." The half-orc looked at everyone in the cave, "If all of you are that bored, then I suggest we attack now and be done with it!" Looking at Julian, he continued, "I don't think these imbeciles can last another night of your scrying and watching."

Korgazhar tried to restrain the worst of his temper. Clearly, they were in need of some direct authority. "Julian, scry now, quickly. Aelfric and Alain, make your kidnap plans and get ready. Fernal..." The half-orc bit his tongue, lest he exploded further in anger.

"Are you NUTS. There is absolute no way any giant could hear us. Next you be telling they can read minds too. They have a better chance smelling the smoke from our fire here or see the smoke from it. Or did you not consider that too. Best you get a grip on yourself." Fernal retorts back.

OOC: Even blowing a loud modern whistle you be couldn't heard it over 1400' and that is really blowing into loudly. The noise inside the cave makes it very directional and reduced. And also not early the volume. Stories of dog (wolves) smelling stuff 10's of miles away and bears have been known to come over 10 miles on a scent. I would be MUCH more worried about the cooking as animals have much keener senses of smell than us humans, but there hearing isn't so keen.

"Which is why we shouldn't be cooking in the first place either!" Korgazhar bellowed, "Except for all your incessant whining about only eating rations, or not having wine, or all the comforts that you want!" The half-orc stomped on the campfire they had and snuffed it out, and kicked over the remains of the cooked food they had, as if to prove a point.
OOC:
Oops, apologies if I'm going too far with the role-playing, where Korg is conservative and cautious and temperamental. No intention of disputing real-life science about sound waves nor about smells. If you'd like I'll dial down the role-playing.

I for one am enjoying Korgazhar. I was actually hoping someone would bring up the point about sound, but it's not in Alain's character to do that. And this is a good way to move the plot forward.

Seeing the mood is entirely destroyed, not to mention the fire, Fernal put puts her flute away with a huff. Moments later hauls up her partly full barrel showing off she is strong. "FINE". She stomps over to a side wall and deposits herself there. Soon with her mess kit cup filled with wine.

Who you calling half-breed? :P :P :P Yeah, I was going for the nasty drill sergeant/relentless samurai cliche. And thanks everyone for letting me roleplay the retainers as well. Polaris and Annex can testify that my other character is the sweetest over-talkative tiefling warlock you'll ever meet.

It's true. Not sure Ælfric will ever fully trust this elf-killing bastard, though. :P
