Ælfric sneered at Julian's assessment.

"Eilserv?" he asked a bit more forcefully.

Julian turned to face the sneering elf, who seemed so intent on demanding information without asking for specifics. "Yes, Ælfric. The sorceress I saw serves house Eilserv." turning to the others, he raises his voice slightly to gather their attention "House Eilserv is a powerful house of dark elves, cast aside by the elves of the surface, known for their brutality and debauchery, serving the gods of evil in an effort to usurp the world. We face more than simple giants here." His voice lowers as he addresses Ælfric directly once again "It seems your distant cousins are involved in whatever this is." he gestures in the general direction of the steading.

Ælfric's sneer turned into outright disgust.

"Underground?!"

While Aelfric was recalling the history of elves and, more problematically, dark elves, Korgazhar continued to preoccupy his own mind with the means of ingress into the steading, thinking his thoughts out loud, "Which other locations are viable for teleporting into, Julian? The bedroom is trapped, as we know. Let us assess if other areas might be similarly trapped. If there are no safe zones to teleport into, then I agree that we should save your last charge for a last resort escape, should the need arise. In which case, we shall have to attempt direct means of entry, either the main gate, or one at the back that leads to the yard."

She comes back from the entrance, Can't have all the place trapped. They have to move around you know. Why not use your magic to find a safe room? Then go and get whatever you need to send us there. Can't be too hard to find the leader guy.

Ælfric
You feel as if someone has slapped you in the face at the speaking of dark elves who live below the ground. Stories have been told, most held to be fairy tales, of the Great Ohta, or War, where the elves were torn by discord and warfare. The elven races managed to drive out from their surface lands the selfish and cruel members, who sought safety in the underworld. These creatures, later known as the "dark elvenfolk" or Drow, grew strong in the arcane arts over the centuries and content with their gloomy fairyland beneath the earth, though they still bear enmity towards and seek revenge against their distant kin, the elves and faeries who drove them down. Stories spoke of a time when the darkness would seek to usurp the light, and the Drow would gain dominance over all of the surface world.

"Drow. Your sorceress is a Drow."

Ælfric was visibly upset, not necessarily angry but shocked.

"Dark elves driven underground long ago for their evil. They plot against the surface to blot out the sun with their dark magics and take revenge on the fey."

"Forgotten evil elves working alongside giants of every tribe. This does not bode well for the Flanaess should we fail. Others must be made to know this, that they might succeed should we fall in battle."

Enough of this fantasy drow stuff. Aren't you going to take a look there and see what is what? She appears to be a bit anxious. Probably needs her morning wine....

"You keep watch, Fernal. These fantasies slit your throat in the night."

Ælfric put two fingers to his temple.

"Think to Earl Querchard of Istivin," he said to Julian.

"Light elves, dark elves, hrrmph." Korgazhar shrugged. The orcs had a saying, The only valuable elf is a dead one. But Korgazhar didn't say that out loud, naturally. In this context, these drow were a threat and the likely cause of all the turmoil, and had to be stopped. "So, mission done, now that we've discovered who is behind the giants," he meant the opposite of what he spoke, but leveled the statement as if to provoke a response from the others.

"Subterfuge was our best line of attack. No matter how highly some of us rank our martial prowess, we cannot fight dozens of giants as well as a Drow sorceress. Can you stymie the Drow's magics, Julian? If so, we can still make a surgical strike to kill the leaders of the hill and stone giants."
Feb 27, 2019 1:18 am
Korgazhar approved of the current line of analysis, and continued"I agree a surgical strike is best. We do not have the numbers for a full head-on attack. So, more specifically, will they know we are coming, when we come? Do we have or still have the means to get there without being ambushed? If we still can penetrate surgically, then that's our best option. If not, then it's guerilla tactics, meaning we have to kill one patrol at a time, one room at a time, and rest and recharge, to wear them down via attrition." The half-orc was always relentlessly business-like when talking about matters of combat.

Julian agreed with the assessments of his allies, and thus remained silent while contemplating their next course of action. Once an appropriate pause in the conversation was reached he answered the relevant comments and questions pointed his direction. "Ælfric is right. I'll inform the Earl soon enough. As for my ability, to negate her magic. I can counteract her magics when we inevitably face her in battle. I can prevent her from scrying on locations such as this. Glyphs or Symbols such as the one we encountered, however, are not within my ability to counter. We'll need to stay alert and look for them carefully whenever we make our next strike."

"I'm not convinced Nosnra, the sorceress, and the stone giant I've seen are the only threats. I suspect there are strongholds beyond this one, and forces at work here greater than we might expect. Removing the leader of this keep is only the first step in what I think may be a much larger struggle."

Fernal adds her thoughts, Magic lady seems to be more the problem. Be good to get a track on her by looks. See how thang are progressing, she digs in her pack for her mess cup. And will proceed to get it filled.
Feb 27, 2019 3:02 am
"One jump at a time, Julian. Let's focus on this hurdle first. It is no longer feasible to turn Nosnra. He and his cohort and the sorceress must be killed quickly. We can infiltrate the stronghold if we pool our resources, and the wizard can teleport us out when we are finished. Or we can teleport in and rely on our mounts for the escape."
Feb 27, 2019 3:09 am
"Only nine subjects can be teleported, including myself. Our of us would be without a mount, if I were to teleport in."

OOC:
I'm going to allow you all to RP this out, until such a time as you have your plan outlined and everyone in agreement (or at least a majority of you agree anyway. ;)
Feb 27, 2019 10:51 pm
"What of you transforming into a bird again, Julian? If not, perhaps the strongest mount could carry two."

His tactical mind went through possibilities as quickly as his lips could move to voice them. It is obvious that he has planned more than a few heists in his time.

"Our decision on infiltration will be based on where Julian can teleport us in their headquarters. Where can you teleport us? What of the giant's concubine? Can you locate her and use her hair to transport us to her location if it is out of the way?"
Feb 27, 2019 11:18 pm
"I can attempt to teleport us to any of the locations I have seen; however, there is no guarantee of success unless I possess a physical anchor to tie our location to the one we wish to appear at."
OOC:
Considering I took the time to actually build a map of the steading, would you say that I'm 'very familiar' with any given location within it DM, or would you say it falls under the category of 'seen casually'?
