Fernal comes back down after obviously trying to fit through the open at the top of the gate. Just not happening. Looking at the bars Can any just poof over there and open it.

"I will open this, but first, a glance ahead." Julian casts Arcane Eye, which has darkvision, creating the invisible sensor on the other side of the gate. The giants should have been on high alert, the fact that they hadn't seen or heard any guardsmen yet was unnerving. He uses the eye to examine the area ahead closely, before sending it up to the tower.
OOC:
Casting Arcane Eye at 4th level. Regaining the 1st level slot spent on mage armor. Presume that I'm using this to examine the interior of any room we intend to enter for the next hour.

Julian
slipping under the gate, you soon get a view of the far side. A large entryway stands fairly empty, except for a multitude of fur cloaks hanging along the south wall. It takes you a few minutes to check the entire 80' x 60' foot room, but you manage to do so undetected. There is a hallway leading west, the end of which has a set of stairs going up to the tower and a door leading into the steading. Similarly, at this end of the steading is another door leading to the interior. Lastly, a large set of double doors grace the center of the north wall, leading into the great room beyond.

One thing you did not expect to find is a giant, sound asleep, with a large casket of ale lying next to him in the southeast corner. He is laid out along a large cot, and a huge club stands against the wall next to him.

I have made the assumption that Alain would not want to be left alone when Julian took off, and so moved him to join the rest of the group. Let me know if this is incorrect.

A few questions.

1: About how heavy does the bar on the door look? Do I think an unseen servant would be able to lift it?

2: I mentioned I'd like to check the tower next. Could I get that info really quick? I'm worried about someone up there potentially hearing or seeing us even if this sleeping one doesn't.

3: Can you help me understand why it takes a few minutes to check the whole room? I can move the eye 30ft as an action each turn, so in my head it'd take all of 12 seconds to go from where I'd place it behind the door to the other end of the room, and the eye sees in all directions. There doesn't seem like much to search, so I'm just kinda confused on that detail.

OOC:
Yeah, it should have been maybe a minute at most. I was thinking 60x80 = 4800/30=160 turns... which was dumb because you can see 30', not 10... as for the tower, I missed that little detail
Moving the eye up the tower, you find a similar scene as below. There is a huge gong along with a padded club in the middle of the tower, and a giant laying on the floor, apparently passed out drunk with a large cask near him. In the corner are several huge rocks and a small pile of giant-sized spears.

Fernal anxiously waits the wizards to open the gate. She draws out her longsword, but it isn't aflame yet. She doesn't bother with her shield and holds it two handed. She has sword with a combat stance.

While Korgazhar understood the need for the magic user to scan the interior behind the doors, unlike the relative safety of the cave, it wouldn't do to take too long doing so, as they were standing out in the open. Julian reported the sleeping giants, so it was time for quick action.

"Who can go over and unbar the gate? Once in, two teams: the faster group should go up and neutralise the giant in the tower. The slower takes care of the one below."

"I can go over the gate... but I hope the bar is not too heavy."

If the others agree, Ælfric will use his arcane arm to hoist a grappling hook attached to rope onto the gate so he can climb up and over.

OOC:
If you ever actually need to do the math, the area of the cross section of the sphere of vision granted by the eye is 2828 cubic ft, so you can do room-area/2828 to figure out how many round it should roughly take. In this case, 4800/2828 = roughly 2 rounds.

Does Julian think an unseen servant would be able to lift the bar?
Julian quietly relays what he's seeing to the others. "Two giants rest drunkenly. One at the door, the other in the tower."
OOC:
I will cast unseen servant to open the door if Julian thinks it's possible. Reserving this space for when I get the answer.

OOC:
Could you hypothetically just use your arcane arm to lift the bar, @Ælfric/annex?
Mar 12, 2019 12:23 am
OOC:
If the bar's less than 10 pounds, plus I'd have to see where the bar is so I think I'd have to be on top of the gate to look down on it.

OOC:
I see. According to the Push, Carry, Lift rules, my unseen servant should be able to push/carry/pull a max of 60lbs, but idk how heavy this door bar looks. I don't need to see it either, so it should work, provided it isn't a particularly heavy bolt.

Fernal knew the caster would figure a way. She's not here to think. A good thang too.

OOC:
We'll find a way in regardless. The real question is... Do we kill the giants, or leave them be. Since they're asleep, they're unconscious, which means free crits for all of us if we ready our attacks and unleash them all at once. That'd probably be enough to take them both down. The problem with that is that if anyone comes through this area, they'll know something's up, as I don't think we can practically hide the corpses.
Mar 12, 2019 1:26 am
Not since Fernal plans to leave a bloody mess of them. Covering might be hard. Then again I don't think they will be missed till the next day.
Mar 12, 2019 1:32 am
OOC:
Bah! Forgot to answer that, too. The bar is actually a rather huge tree trunk. Much more than 60lbs. Aelfric will require an athletics check to squeeze between the gate and roof.
Mar 12, 2019 1:33 am
OOC:
If I had to guess, how heavy would I say it is?
Mar 12, 2019 2:02 am
"Of course giants would use a tree. I can get in but I cannot move that. If the giants weren't drop dead drunk, perhaps we could have charmed them into opening it for us."
OOC:
Since he'll definitely fail any Athletics checks, Ælfric can reluctantly Misty Step from the top of the gate to the ground but there's still the question of getting the dang tree trunk moved or destroyed silently.
