The creatures continue forward with vicious snarls. Whatever they think of the party in front of them, they must fear more whatever is behind them.

Vincent's flaming arrows cut one of them down, and the second leaps forward toward the party, claws raised. Raised to its full height, it is considerably taller than it first seemed, at least as tall as Ug

Alalla impales the creature on her blade mid-leap. Even as it dies, it takes furiously at her armor with long limbs, managing a deep scratch on her arm.

Judging from its wounds, this creature took severe punishment even before the party's attacks, as if to keep it in a state of heightened rage against any intruding foes. Perhaps these creatures - or people? - are naturally ferocious, but only a devious and cruel keeper would keep its guards in such a state.

A spectral figure pulls itself free from the corpse that Vincent killed. Floating and looking silently at Vincent as if awaiting orders.

There is a minute of silence, and then the sound of more furred claws slapping against stone as four more of the creatures lope through Reo's dancing lights.

Alalla's sword becomes a swath of flame as she tries to take down as many of the quaggoths as possible. Unfortunately two get by her, though barely, and only one falls to her blade.

Quaggoth 1 takes 15 damage, Quaggoth 2 takes lethal damage, Quaggoth 3 takes 15 damage. Second wind spent.

Erevain bends down to brush Alalla's cheek with healing enough to get her back on her feet (Al gains 3 hp), then leads her back down the corridor.

"Quaggoths," he says when he has caught his breath. "A savage people of the Underdark. They are often kept as slaves of the other races, such as drow or duergar." He looks back down the corridor towards the red light. "Either race will prove difficult to dislodge from a place such as this, but knowing whether we are up against dark elves or gray dwarves is something that would do us some good right now."

"Ug will take horns if it means killing bellyfat,"Ug says helping Al up in return and then pats her back, "but Ug really wish he could have Friends wings. Fairy kitty Ug would be scary!" Ug adds with a tired grin.

Ug turns and faces the charging slaves. Only two of the four get past him.

Alalla staggers back behind Ug and Erevain, using her glaive as a walking stick. She takes a deep breath and fixes her stance, then puts her pain out of mind. As Ug engages them, Alalla hurls her glaive, striking one Quaggoth in the heart. She recalls it then throws it at the last Quaggoth. Her throw doesn't feel as strong as the other, so she follows it up with a handaxe. The two blows kill the creature.

Quaggoths 3 & 4 take lethal damage.

The four quaggoths descend on Ug with all of their fury (Aftet resistance, Ug takes 64 slashing damage). Ug's incredible fortitude shows true as he takes every hit and returns with brutal swings that drop the white-furred creatures to the corridor floor. Alalla's well-placed throws finish off the other two.

It isn't long at all before another group of quaggoths makes its way through the corridor. Whoever is sending them through seems to be taking care that only a handful approach the party at once, presumably to minimize losses if the formidable adventurers lay waste with a devastating spell. The strategy is merciless and cold-blooded. The slavers, whoever they are, care nothing good for the quaggoths beyond their ability to wear down an attacking force.

The quaggoths do their job well, however. Enraged and savage, this new group of wounded slaves bears down on the party with claws at the ready.

"Don't engage them unless they make it past the light", Vincent tells his party. With a retch, Vincent gags up a mote of sickly pale yellow-white light catching it on his new rod. Then flinging off the top of the rod at the group of nasty rats in front of the group. Making sure to block off the tunnel and not hit any of his party. As the spell takes effect, the runes on Vincent's bow fade.

Vincent casts Sickening Radiance:
Dim light spreads within a 30-foot radius sphere centered on a point. The light spreads around corners.

When a creature moves into the area for the first time on a turn or starts its turn there, it must pass a Constitution save or take 4d10 radiant damage, suffer one level of exhaustion, and emit a dim light in a 5-foot radius that prevents invisibility. The light and exhaustion go away when the spell ends.
