Steading of the Hill Giant Chief

Fernal
You can hear the clanging of pots, pans and other kitchen utensils from beyond the kitchen door, while to the north you hear the giant laughing and bellowing back at the females in the chamber there. You hear a door close, and the sound of heavy footfalls headed your way.

Julian
When you were scouring the steading in an effort to map the place, you recall that there are large piles of dishes throughout the kitchen area, especially near the prep tables the giantess cooks are at. Most of the wares are wooden or metal, nothing of the glass or shatter capable variety.
OOC:
Stealth check from everyone
Apr 14, 2019 7:58 pm
Fernal is posed to slay the giant the moment he appears.

Rolls

Stealth - (1d20+10)

(15) + 10 = 25

Apr 15, 2019 12:40 am
Korgazhar stayed motionless, chided by Fernal.

Rolls

Stealth (with disadv) - (1d20+12, 1d20+12)

1d20+12 : (3) + 12 = 15

1d20+12 : (20) + 12 = 32

Apr 15, 2019 1:57 am
Julian hesitated. Foolishly perhaps, but at least hesitation is silent.
OOC:
Stealth for me + Ligeia

Rolls

Dex(Stealth)[Julian] - (1d20+13)

(6) + 13 = 19

Dex(Stealth)[Ligeia] - (1d20+12)

(17) + 12 = 29

Apr 15, 2019 3:31 am
Ælfric spared a glance at the noisy half-orc.

Rolls

Stealth (extra +10 from Pass Without Trace) - (1d20+23)

(13) + 23 = 36

Apr 15, 2019 2:27 pm
Quickly moving toward the kitchen door, you all manage to duck out of the line of sight just before the giant begins to head your way.
OOC:
10...9....8... actions?
Apr 15, 2019 4:00 pm
OOC:
I'm going to assume that the map is exactly correct and there's one orc standing closest to them when they open that kitchen door.
Time was of the essence. They had to go through the kitchen now. Korgazhar pointed to the sneakier members of his party and made a door opening and throat slitting sign to indicate that they should go through the door first and kill the orc as silently as they could.

OOC:
Never ASSume... :) But yeah, safe to assume that there are numerous creatures on the kitchen-side of the door.

"Go, as soon as you hear the sound of clattering."

Forgoing the usual rituals behind the spell, Julian hastily summoned an invisible servant within the kitchen, mentally ordering it to draw the attention of those who might notice them by knocking over as many dishes as possible.
OOC:
Casting Unseen Servant in the area I indicated earlier. I'm hoping the distraction it will cause will draw attention from the doorway we're sneaking through. Maybe it'll even be attributed to one of the orcs and they won't think anything suspicious is going on. :D

Julian
The invisible butler does as instructed, and moment later you all hear the clattering of dishes and shouts of confusion. Coincidentally, as this happens, a raucous roar goes up from the feast hall, masking the sounds from within the kitchen.
OOC:
Deception check by Julian, and a second stealth check from all of you as you move into the kitchen. Once inside, then where?
Apr 15, 2019 7:17 pm
Ælfric smiled faintly at the clatter.

Rolls

Stealth (extra +10 from Pass Without Trace) - (1d20+23)

(7) + 23 = 30

Apr 15, 2019 8:36 pm
Julian and Ligeia quickly moved through the kitchen and into the supply room.
OOC:
Making an argument that this would be an Int(Deception) check instead of a Cha(Deception) check, because the effectiveness of this distraction depends more on Julian's cleverness rather than his force of personality. This falls in line with the PHB rules (under the skills section) here:

Up to you DM. Rolling both just to be sure.

Korgazhar was ready to kill the first creature he saw when the door opened, but since Julian managed to create a diversion, he moved as silently as he could towards the door to the supply room, letting Fernal open it, before entering.

Rolls

Stealth (with disadv, still +10 PWT) - (1d20+12, 1d20+12)

1d20+12 : (12) + 12 = 24

1d20+12 : (4) + 12 = 16

OOC:
Still need stealth checks from Alain and Fernal please.
Apr 17, 2019 9:52 pm
Fernal gave you a 25 earlier.
Apr 17, 2019 10:25 pm
GeneCortess says:
Fernal gave you a 25 earlier.
OOC:
Thanks. I hadn't had it updated on my sheet. Ok, I will post the round a little later, when I get home. It may be that while we may be gaining a player, one will be getting dropped. No response from Alain when I have tried to reach out. I'll roll for him tonight, but after that, it will be zombie-bard for the win... :)

OOC:
Alain Stealth check. I will post the turn tomorrow since it is so late here.

Rolls

Alain Stealth - (1d20+16)

(18) + 16 = 34

As you all watch, Julian concentrates for a brief moment, murmuring the arcane words required to summon his servant. Suddenly, from the far side of the kitchen, confusion erupts as large piles of dishes come crashing down. Orcs and ogres alike begin bellowing and screaming as they attempt to prevent more damage from occurring. The giantess in that area is just as confused, slapping and kicking the smaller beasts that are now underfoot.

Quickly, you dart from the entry door to the storeroom door, an by the luck of the gods (and a bit of cover provided by Aelfric's spell) you make it without (you believe) being seen. Taking stock, you realize a second later that Alain is not with you. From the far side, you hear more commotion as the giant in the hallway begins yelling. In the mix, you can hear Alain taunting the giant, screaming to 'come and get me'. The bellows and shouts fade as Alain apparently is leading the brute away, but the fracas in the kitchen still persists.

In the storeroom, the smell hits you immediately, as rotted meats of who-knows-what animals and humanoids are piled on top of one another, along with various cooking materials such as vegetables, salts, spices, etc. barrels of water and ale are stacked haphazardly and torn and molding bags of grain give testament to the hardiness of the giant stomach. At the rear of the space you see a wide set of stairs leading down into the lower level. There are torches burning at the top as well as the bottom of the steps.

Julian sent his arcane eye down the stairway. "Alain is crafty and giants are foolish. He'll be fine." Though he was concerned for his ally's safety, their mission came first.

"He is a fool. Let us pray he and the giant kill each other quickly and quietly," Ælfric lamented as he headed to the stairs.
